''Get me a beer and money sandwhich. Hold the bread.'' - DR & Quinch |
I am sure this conversation has been thrashed out before elsewhere, but humour me :) The situation; 2 games... 1 is a cutting edge more adult orientated game that will take a hefty machine to get the best out of it. It has a recognised IP, but not one with mass pull. The devs are enthusiastic about co-operative communities and have a proven history in mmo design. It is selling itself on involved immersive gameplay that requires time and commitment to get the most out of. The other is somewhat crude looking, but with a decent art style , meaning it will run on the most basic of machines. It has a massive IP with a young and older fanbase that recognise it's iconic elements at a galnce. It is selling itself on a more casual gameplay that most can drop in and out of as it suits them. Have we seen this before? Will the same one win? |

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on. |
I love the way you said "AoC or WAR?" by the way. That which is most accessible will win. Period. It was the difference between WoW and EQ2 in 2004, it'll be the same in 2008. Both AoC and WAR will likely succeed in the long run regardless. Neither will debunk WoW, at least not within a year. |

My answer to this is by quoting... "All things are wearisome, What has been will be again, Is there anything of which one can say, There is no remembrance of men of old, |

This, like it or not, is a huge factor in selling power. I predict that AoC and WAR have the same kind of impact that DAoC and Anarchy Online had on EverQuest. They will suit their niche, but never reach the same amount of players. |

Bah, this is all just my take. I'm actually hoping for Fallen Earth type stuff to own. Or Chronicles....whatever. Something fresh for once...something new. I'm tired to death of these played out ideals, which...frankly...I've had my fill of. |
