Retired at 45, are you? |
Here is something i have been meaning to ask...........Can you the player, just walk away? I know i can. For whatever reason i leave a game, before i quit i delete everything, give it all away to some lucky new player (or poser vet) and trash the disks. To me the entertainment value on any game, MMO, single player pc, etc is just that entertainment. You purchase a game for whatever price, pay your monthly fee if there is one and when the party is over, move on. Though one or two games i have played have that tingly trying to pull you back into the fold feel, there is really nothing to be gained by going back. Sure you make what you think are "friends", (i consider friends those you can actualy interact with in the real world) your friends online are in actuality, aquaintances, maybe you go that extra step to meet them maybe not (most likely not), but i digress. If you spend thousands of hours on a character can you walk away? I mean give everything up, sell all, then delete them, then dispose of the game disks? And feel fine? We all know from news reports some folks cant, and accidental deletions of treasured toons have lead to murder and suicide. so, can you, just walk away? just curious. |

I can walk away and have done but I never delete my characters. If I ever wanted to come back, I would keep them just in case. |

I can walk away easily. Because of that, I see no need to go to the extremes and delete my characters. If I ever want to play again they are there. If I am bored and not having fun then I will just step away until the game might be fun for me again. If it never is then my chars rot on the account forever. |

I can and do walk away but I never delete my characters. There is no point in doing so. Sometimes nostalgia takes over and I feel the urge to come back and play a certain game, chat with old friends, those that are still playing, and just see how the game changed. |

I quit WoW and LOTRO with an assortment of L 20-35 toons on each, gave all my cash and unbound stuff before I left. When I got tired of those games I knew I was done and would never go back. When I left EvE it was tough. I loved the game, but it was taking way too much of my life. I had three characters with almost seven years of skill training between them, and maybe 15 bil in assets. Luckily EvE allows you to transfer characters (for a fee) to other accounts.... I gave each toon away to in-game friends. Now my legacy is alive and well in EvE, and I'm safe from the temptation to reactivate my accounts. I've been MMO free for about a month now... I've lost 15 pounds, started climbing/working out again, and my life has improved in many ways (wife is alot happier too). Obviously I haven't completely stopped pondering MMOs- kinda funny to me that I still lurk around these forums. The more I think about it, the more I consider being done with MMOs forever. That being said, I don't regret the time I spent in EvE. It's more than a game.. it's a human nature laboratory, an intelligence test, and a playground for your imagination all rolled into one. Good times! |

The very best thing about MMOGs is that they're there, waiting for me to play whenever I want. I have resubbed to many MMOGs and enjoyed continuing with characters I've played over the years. My primary EQ character is 8 years old as of February 29, and I have 4 UO characters that are almost 9 years old. The list goes on. So why would I walk away? I quit these games all the time, and then many months later (even years) enjoy some more time with them. I simply don't see the point. |

I am currently able to quit an MMO whenever I feel like it. Though, when I first tried to quit EQ, I quit because I was playing entirely too much, it was hard. I was still enjoying the game, just got fed up with it. I donated all my items to one of my guild mates, and told my guild leader I was leaving. After that, just so I wouldn't just resume my account right away, I deleted my character. I admit, he was only like level 35, when the cap was still 6, but still... Since then, I have resubbed and started new subs to a whole heck of a lot MMO's and I'm able to quit as soon as I need to, either through boredom, or need for real life. Just started school back up, and I am MMO free since I started it, though it does help that I haven't had time, or really interest any in MMO since starting back |

I've been playing MMO's since I was very young. It's easy to walk away from any game its just difficult to walk away from MMO's in general. |

Yes. When I left SWG, EQ, UO,EVE, and EQ II, I gave away all my items and money to whomever I felt was a real newbie. I have never regretted it. When it is over its over. Of course I knew I would never go back to SWG. |

I can quit mmo's, have done so many times. Always delete everything the toon has except a little "startup" cash in case I ever decided to come back in the future ( only used it once). I've actually been MMO free since November. Before then I hardly ever played. I guess RL finally took over. The plus side is that I've moved on in rl and have opeend my own law office in atlanta. I've also dropped a ton of weight, workout reguarly, and spend more time with my partner and dogs. MMOs really took up more of my time than I realized, and now that I'm MMO free, I sometimes shake my head in dismay on how much time I spent in teh games. However, I may try a new MMO, but as a super casual player. I can no longer afford to spend the 4+ hrs a day playing a game. Now-a-days I will play an hour of CSS or two, and Sins of a Solar Empire is great. PS if you need a commercial litigation attorney in Atlanta give me a call, I'm your friendly-geeky game playing attorney |
