July 28, 2007: A day the silent majority spoke and brought down the communications of the US Capitol

Cryptic is working on releasing "Champions Online" for 2009, based on the Champions IP from Hero Games.

The official word will be released on the 20th of this month.

So someone other than Cryptic has the Star Trek License.

And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Not necesarily, Cryptic already had a team of devs working on MUO. They are making Champions Online to try and salvage the work the have already put into the program. They then interviewed, and presumably hired, some of the devs from P2. So it is still possible that they are working on both. Though I think Cryptic can make a very good niche game, and lets face it STO will be a bit of a niche game, I pray they are not the one making it. Jack Emmert almost killed CoX. Everything the players wanted to have in game he always replied that "It doesn't fit MY vision for the game."(Emphasis added by me) Hes too much of a my way or the highway kind of guy.

It's Blizzard.  Think about it.  Blizzard aquires Activision and now has it's own publishing company, Guitar Hero, Console game market, and now all they need is a few decent IPs to go along with what they own already.  They have Blizzard titles, Activition titles, but no big entertainment title like most of the other "big houses" have.  Add Star Trek Online into the Blizzard family and mmmmmmmmm, all the money and time in the world to make STO and make it right.  Combine that with the fact they cancelled their Starcraft project they had going, it all adds up to Blizzard making a big announcement soon.

Interesting thought, but the original story indicated that STO had gone to another San Fransisco Bay Area developer.

Blizzard is headquartered in Irvine California in Orange County near Newport Beach ( south of Los Angeles ).

Emmert mentioned that Cryptic had several projects - including Champions - in the works, and he hinted that one of the other projects could be a sci-fi...I don't have any news, but hmm I wonder!

Thanks for that info.

But could that project be ... Terrain Empire?

Blizzard has multiple studies in California and one of them is in the bay area.

I think Cryptic are seriously looking at it...

Jack Emmert, Chief Creative Officer at Cryptic Studios, gave an interesting talk about using episodic content (read: patches) in the morning's (yes, it's still morning in California!) first round of GDC sessions. While we'll be posting a detailed write-up of the session later today, Emmert dropped a tidbit that, like any good piece of gossip, we simply must share. Talking about what Cryptic was working on, Emmert mentioned the recently announced Champions Online as well as what he called "a secret sci-fi project".

was actually in that session that this article talks about, and if it helps, he was wearing a sweatshirt that read "STARFLEET ACADEMY" across the front. I mean, unless my vision really IS giving out. Also pretty big air quotes when he mentioned the "secret sci-fi project."
