There isn't one. Soloing in this game mostly means 'fetch and carry' quests or 'kill a bunch of whatever' quests. So much of the game is centered around forced grouping that soloing is not an option, not if you want to experience the game anyway. Major design flaw in my opinion. They did the same thing with DDO, I should have seen it coming. That said, the Champion Class seems to have a high survivability, at least until the mid-twenties.

Cowards die many times before they truly perish, yet the valiant only taste death but once.

Hunter is going to level the quickest because he kills so fast. The burg can sneak through and grab objectives no problem and just collects the xp reward.Gaurdian is going take all the damage and come out on top but takes forever. champ is like the gaurdian but has more chance of dying but will kill faster.those are the main solo classes .You can solo with a minstrel or lore master but i have n knowledge with those classes.

I have 5 toons on one server. All played mostly solo or with my husband. So it is doable, but to really experience some of the content and story lines you will need a fellowship at least for a short time.

I have the following toons:

Kirvay - lvl 50 Burg

Sylwin - lvl 46 Hunt

Jazdeia - lvl 30 Hunt

Drakorin - lvl 31 Minst

Lalinreth - lvl 24 Guard

I have a lot of fun with my Burg, but at times prefer playing with either of my hunters. Just my 2 cents, Hunters seem to be best at solo play, but I have not tried all of the classes yet either.

Find the hunter solo ability start to drop around 30;s, in the North Downs you really need to group for a good bit of that zone, I would have to put my money on a Captain , though I have not really given them a go yet, they seem to fair well against my Black Arrow in Monster play

Burg is best surviver , but he is also slow killer

Champion is the master of damage , but he is quite squishy until higher levels ...

Still , i would recommend Champion for your first class - all thing considered it is the best solo class

I have six char's above level 40.three 49's and two 50's.Minst,Burg..

The easiest  to solo(for me) I would have to say the minst. The war mode made it solo friendly.

Hardest..guard, simply because it is really slow.

My minst has never lost a duel.Tied many times. usualy to a Lore master

This is wrong. There is absolutely no problem in LotRO to get into the high levels with only playing solo. Many people did it and many people are doing it. There is no forced grouping whatsoever.

LotRO basically does a good job providing both solo and group content. However, as on every forum, you get some people complaining that they cannot solo the group content ...

Yeh... like the raid haters, they see raid content and presume that you have to do it... then moan that they are left out cause they don't have time... To make them happy they would like raid content to be soloable lol...

Anyway i have solo'd fine thru with Burglar, albeit it slowly but burglar makes it interesting, and we can do a lot of fellow q's solo due to our sneakyness which makes up for the slow kills...

as for survivability... yeh if we fail something we can usually back out before its too late, therefor we can try anything which i like... Last time i died i stupidly ran of a huge cliff...

I can confirm that Jadar has it wrong. One of my kin-mates went from 1-40 as a hunter (entirely solo) in the space of a few weeks. It is entirely possible to solo, but you would miss a lot of the really excellently made group content. Especially the epic Book quests and such.

As for the best solo class, I would say: hunter, guardian (now with it's new stance), champion, captain and minstrel. Loremaster can be a little fragile of course, and I personally found that it took ages to kill mobs as a burglar. That's just my experience and opinion though.

Agreed, Jadur is very wrong.  You can solo your way to 50 no problem.  You do miss some great content, but its also something you can go back and solo 1/2 of it when you are higher.  I play a burglur as my main and I like it solo'ing better than my guardian and hunter.  Hunter is definitely faster killing, but Its hard to get out of sticky unplanned situations like multiple adds and the such.  With my burglur I can dissapear in plain site (stealth and drop aggro), I can mez (crowd control) one mob, I can disable (6sec stun), plus i have 2 other 3second stuns that will give me a headstart to run away.  I'm only level 20 on my guardian, but I find it takes way too long to kill things compared to the other classes.

That's how I view it, and I know for a fact that most people would not support burglur as the best solo class, but it fits my style of gameplay very much.

So far Id have to save the Loremaster was the easiest for me to solo. Perhaps thats because you have a pet though. For the most part I enjoy the Minstrel and Burglar more though. If your not going for Undying title Id go for the Minstrel because giving enough trys you can beat anything. If your going for Undying Id recommend the Burglar. When all else fails touch and go you way out of hell hehe. One thing I hear is how slow Burglars combat is.. So far I havent ran into that. Id say its a bit faster then a Minstrel actually.

You can solo pretty much with every class as long as you learn how to be most effective with them. Through my experience, soloing has been easiest with my Hunter followed by my Captain. My Hunter easily takes out baddies with 1000+ more morale than my Hunter's.

Whatever. If people want to pretend this is a solo friendly game - be my guest. But it simply isn't true and I certainly don't expect to convince a bunch of fanbois that there is anything second rate about their precious game. Is it possible to advance solo? Sure, as I said, doing fetch n' carry and kill quests. To participate in the games main quest series', you have to group. It's a fact.

So, just because you cant do the main story line quests, its not solo friendly? Are you kidding?...

Are you complaining about the content made for solo'ers? because thats another story...

As far as soloing goes - I have to say Lore master, atleast in later levels...Good Damage, crowd control, pet and with 3k morale you can take a beating. LM's have very few limits of what they can solo or not, its just up to the player really.

All in all Id say the game leaves it up to the player how they want to progress. I havent ran into a time where I cant solo. I have ran into times when I want to fellow though just because its fun. As most of the people above said, the game gives you the choice how to play and just because some quests arent solo friendly it doesnt make the game solo unfriendly. They simply gave you choices. Choice is good

Oh one thing, Im really torn as to which is a better solo class. Loremaster or Burglar. They both are truly awesome at crowd control and they both have extreme flexibility as a class.

Burglar is very easy to solo with; Minstral isn't bad either.  As already stated, you could solo any class all the way to 50.  There are story quests which can't be soloed, but many, if not most, can be duoed at a level or 3 higher than the quest level [while the quest is still green - getting you xp for doing it].  My wife & I have so much fun just wandering around that we have only done Book 1 [at level 38 Gurdian & 39 Burglar].

LOTRO is not a sandbox game, but it can be played like one :)
