personally I hardly ever visited the boards before 2005 but I do remember whenever I went there it was full of people moaning constantly like it is now and just think to myself we didn't realise how great this game was until we lost it with the CU and then the NGE. I remember everyone moaning constantly about not having Jedi and all the SOE scandal surrounding that but noone ever thought about how Jedi would hurt the game. I remember people moaning about having nothing to do and having no quests and being fed up of grinding all the time and just looking back things wern't all roses. So lots of people were slowly quiting specially after Jump to Light speed as that was a big big disappointment to alot of people seeing as it was complete crap and when you think Star Wars and Space you'd expect things like Death Stars and that lol.

I pretty much only visited the trade board back then. But yes I agree there was a lot of moaning, the same kind that goes on in about every game, the "we want this or that" and balance. Was also a lot over bugs,a few of which are still in the game to this day,one or two even from beta |

I posted about 5 times in the first 18 months, and then couple hundred posts after that, when the great Nerf Train really started rolling, plus maybe a couple hundred in the weeks right before and right after the NGE. And for a lot of people I know, it was about the same. As much complaining as there was Pre-CU, it was absolutely dwarfed by the number of complaint posts after the CU, and that was with a reduced playerbase. |

I agree with this, it's worse now. My post count skyrocketed not long after the CU and even more so after the NGE, I read the forums ALOT pre-CU but I didn't complain and I always saw balance complaints- there weren't that many "fix this devs!" type threads back then, and Jedi was the most hated profession, and the Jedi forums itself (much smaller than the overall size of the forums today) was pretty bad on its own. SWTOR: sub ended, no thanks to Georg Zoeller! |

Originally posted by sookster54 I died a few times with my Jedi and had to start over lol I eventually made it to Jedi knight just to say I done this and then stopped the character. Problem is the dev's never kept permadeath in and kept dumbing down the profession because people complained it was too hard and what they were doing is ruining the balance of the game and making every patch about Jedi after that. My 2nd Jedi I made was to sell on ebay and as I had no job it was great money so all you did was unlock force sensative cause no point wasting your time to try max your profits and pay off bills. Anyways I got unlucky on my 5th holocron and went through like 20 odd professions before I got it and then became attached to that character lol. |

The Jedi forum at first was not so bad, but once more and more Jedi came along, the crying got to be nearly unbearable. Then the rot spread to the BH forum, where the crying was nearly as intense toward the end of the CU period. The GCW forum had quite the crying too, but also a lot of players who offered up some good ideas on how to make the GCW more central to the game and more fun for everyone. One thing you could count on was the dualist types stomping their feet and crying about "balance" which was mostly how terrible it was that they didn't have I win buttons. CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested. Once a denizen of Ahazi |

Originally posted by SioBabble I remember the Jedi/BH forums well. While I don't think I ever posted on them, (I had a Jedi and BH), there were always good for a laugh. I like many others didn't post that much except for the trade forums and I ran an AFK buff doc on Chimaera (which was extremely popular), so I posted things for that, like free buff weekends and other related topics. I really only complained when they upgrade to the CU happened and we on Chimaera got royally screwed and set back about two weeks before the CU even happened. People, including myself, lost loads of items, credits, skills, and even characters. Yeah the forums had complaining, but nothing to the degree they are at now. |

Oh, I was hot on the combat forums in that how could Bare-Hands and Melee Weapons have greater killing power than Blasters? And along with the party-breaker Combat Medics. During my wife's first PvP fight (and it was a large one), she was expecting a firefight, not a slugfest with power-hammers and chemical warfare. She said, "This isn't Star Wars," stopped from any further PvP and would quit in a couple of months later. SWG did have potential to be a great game, but was mismanaged and departed from its original form; which is still the case to this day. And that is why... Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness. |

The perfect MMO would have plenty of whiners, bitchers and moaners but compare the amount from then and now large there is a LARGE difference there are a lot more now which tells you the state of the game. |

Originally posted by permanent1 You're right and one of the things that bother me most about the official SW:G forums right now is it seems that anyone who compalins, wants to improve the game, etc almost immeadately get's told to cancel, quit, or some other rude remark. Don't get me wrong, I won't ever be playing the game again, but it just seems a little stupid of current players making others want to quit when there is already a huge problem with the population on most of the servers. |

Originally posted by greenstumps We whined because back then, the game had a lot of potential. We all saw that, but had disagreements on how best to obtain that potential. The devs never clued in on anything appropriate and were unable to fix the simplest of bugs....but the potential was still there. I had fun in Pre-CU SWG despite the bugs and unskilled devs. I don't know how the official forums are now, but I'm pretty sure they aren't whining because they see untapped potential. |

Because things are sooooo much better now that there is little reason to complain......
At least we weren't moaning about the lack of server mergers back in the day like the current subscribers are.

Originally posted by DracisIndeed I felt there was a sharp increase in "if you don't like it get the "f" out posts" after the NGE. Of course it didn't help that SOE staffers posted comments like this themselves. Of course NGE fans are going to "follow the leader." Ironically, now SOE and fans of the game's current incarnation are concerned that so many people have left. Also, like many others on this thread, my post count increased dramatically around the time of the CU, and then exponentially around the time of the NGE. I thought at the time that surely the concerns of thousands of people would lead them to re-evaluate their game-breaking decisions. I was wrong to think that, and they were wrong not to listen. Lose-lose all around. |
