I had seen somewhere, there was a Western MMO in development but can't seem to find any information online about it. I know a number of people was talking about the game here but didn't find anything in the topic search on it. Any help in finding it or the name would be greatly appreciated, thanks. |

White american cowboys versus american indians would be a very touchy subject for MMOs at best and with elements like PvP could be worst. So I don't think people would welcome real life controversial themes such as these for mmos. It's the same as making MMO with Russian vesus American cold war themes. |

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG. |

Originally posted by liddokun It's not controversial, IMO. There's not many Russian vs American cold war themes because the Americans and Russians didn't fight each other in the cold war. That would be a pretty boring game. There's certainly plenty of Vietnam and WWII themed games, as well as Civil War games.
If you really want to get controversial do a Christians Vs Muslims MMO set during the Crusades. |

Most of the cavalry troops that fought in the plains indian wars were (black) "Buffalo Soldiers" and they were good soldiers.
Here are the links to the Wild West online games that are being planed or developed. Link: http://www.wildwestonline.com/ http://frontier1859.com/

well thats not exactly correct. this is a map from the 1850's. the 'time of cowboys and indians' wasn't exactly the minute columbus landed many indian battles/wars took place after this map

So what level would we get the SmallPox Skill? Then I could be UBER LEET!!! In 1832, the first steamboat, a small side-wheeler named, Yellow Stone, reached Fort Union at the mouth of the Yellowstone River. The use of steamboats on the Missouri allowed large quantities of trade goods to move up and down the river. The buffalo hide trade now become more important than the trade in furs. Remote Indian villages brought their buffalo hides to the American Fur Company posts. This set the stage for ensuing disaster. In June of 1837, the St. Peter arrived at Fort Clark, sixty miles north of present day Bismarck, North Dakota. Knowing there were men aboard the boat with smallpox, F. A. Chardon and others of the American Fur Company tried to keep the Mandans away from the boat, but to no avail. The two Mandan villages that had provided aid to Lewis and Clark during the winter of 1804-05 were devastated. Thirty-one Mandans out of a population of sixteen hundred survived the epidemic...these figures vary, but needless to say it was devastating to the Mandans. The 1837 smallpox outbreaks were initially confined to the Indian tribes that lived by, or had come to trade at, the upper Missouri River trading posts. The Mandan, Blackfeet, and the Assiniboine nations suffered the highest number of deaths. The 1837-40 smallpox outbreaks were said to have a ninety-eight percent death rate among those infected (Bray). "It is easier to be cruel than wise. The road to wisdom is long and difficult... so most people just turn out to be assholes" Feng (Christopher Walken) |

European sickness (called white man disease back then) bought to the "new world" definitely is one of the major causes of population decline of the american indians. I mean back then there were no innoculation and medical care is still very basic and primitive. Getting infected with diseases like Tuberculosis and Polio is practically a death sentence. |

Originally posted by nightphantom Actually, I have to disagree a wee bit on that one. It's been told/said for long time now, by researchers and other "non hollywood romaticers" that quite alot of the regular american cowboys were black cowboys. The books, the movies, the fiction written at the time all describes the cowboy as a hunky white male... Because thats what sells..back then and now... But in reality, the cowboy were not so "white". slavery werent so common in the west as you might believe... that was reserved for the south
As for a MMO? only problem I see would be the indian minority advocates that would light up with glee and $$$ signs in their eyes. Nothing can give minority advocates a hardon more than when they can scream from the rooftops about how they were misstreated, and now it's all "trivial".
