anyone know if age of conan will work with the Intel integraded 950GM video cards with dx10. i'm am pretty sure their numerous games that don't right now. I have dx10 but can't use it on games like LOTR online, just something with the Intel chip; anyone know if it will be cool for age of conan?

Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his brother.

should be alright for the game:

256-bit graphics core running at 400MHz
Up to 10.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth with DDR2 667 system memory
1.6 GPixels/sec and 1.6 GTexels/sec fill rate
Up to 224 MB maximum video memory

similar to an ATI x1600 so not a power house but should be capable of running the game on med to low setting in my opinion. Its memory  bandwidth is a bit on the low side. Probably better to run it in DX9 when you play Conan. Although the options are really scalable in every area in game.

RIP Laura - We shall not forget you.

Why So Serious?

DX 10 is only a year old and so far skimply supported by games due to support issues since you have to have Vista & a DX10 card in order to use it (and most users aren't in a hurry to change to Vista yet, fears over another ME plague and rightly so in my opinion have kept there from being a rush to Vista).

Lord of the Rings just released a DX 10 client if you can't run it you should talk to their tech support team to see what the problem is.  Your Vista could be set up incorrectly or maybe there's an driver update your missing.

Age of Conan has for nearly a year now touted their DX10 / 9 client.  They'll be the first MMO designed to work with DX10 and 9 (i dont count Lord of the Rings since it was a seperate client long after release, as in the game wasn't originally created to use DX10).

Unless a game is made with DX10 it'll never run DX10 (and the older the game the less chance of a new client being made) since DX10 is basically an entirely new graphics API (entirely new as in .. they redesigned the pipelines in a manner thats completely different from previous Windows & Direct X versions.  I honestly think they redesigned the pipelines just to force you to Vista)  instead of just an update.

I suspect for atleast another year maybe two you won't see too many games made for just DX10 or even DX10 usage at all (there are some and they look awsome in DX9 & 10 so its almost pointless to rush to Vista unless you have the cash to burn on hardware & the OS itself).   I think once the first big Service Pack comes out (and it covers alot user complaints) we won't see overwhelming rushes to super support Vista.

Bah disregard most of my post *notices you said integrated* I suggest running DX9 just because anything Integrated means its Crap.   Buy a real Video card if possible.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

That's Intel's newest mobile integrated graphics chipset? Good luck.

on edit:

opps, my mistake, that's the graphics core for the 945 series, somewhat better, but your not going to be at all pleased with the performance you'll get, regardless of which Directx used.

I have a high level of tech knowledge and if you get the game to run (which I doubt) it will look like crap and stutter.

Short answer: No.

EDIT: Only Nvidia and Ati cards are worth a damn for gaming, Intel is far from entering the gaming market with its integrated stuff.

I agree with this guy, difference between DX9 and DX10 is minimum, and isnt worth changing OS or decreasing performance in anyway.

DX10 is more of a marketing trick to get people to buy vista.

thanks for all the advise, very much appreciated. (btw i have vista and plenty of a machine, i think i just got shafted on the graphics card)

However i am under the impression there is pretty much no way to upgrade a graphics card in a laptop. So the only solution would be to buy something brand new.

Would a new laptop to run this game prob cost 1,200 ish, or more on the lines of something above15k or 20k. Guessing it would have to have a Nvidia or ATI card for sure.

edit: haha yea i meant 1.5k or 2k

LOL 20k for a laptop.  That's a good one.

You could probably get a gaming laptop that would run AoC on max settings from a custom build computer site for around $2,500-4,000.

Or you could buy a desktop with the same specs that you could upgrade later for around $1,000.  And not have to worry about over-heating or any tiny laptop parts failing years before your desktop does.

Okay, first off . . . actually, nevermind. I'm not even gonna bother with this one . . . - deucallion
