I enjoyed SWG as well... to be fair though you would have to count the time you spent running around to find the spot to drop your harvester.  It's not like you could just step outside your house and drop a harvester for any resource you wanted.

You are also overlooking all the other ingredients that you need for making things that can't be harvested by just "slapping" down a harvester.  Unless the recipes have changed dramatically since I've left avian meat is probably still a high demand product.  Not to mention the other meats, hides, and organic materials needed.

So yes, the minerals and some organics were easy to get boatloads of once you found a high percentage area of the resource you wanted.  But finding that spot sometimes took a very long time and lots of running around even to multiple different planets.

LOTRO might be the perfect "Themepark game".

Too bad I'm looking for a world game...ya know, sandbox... Not a static themeparked game where you're kinda rereading a book by doing the quests :p

Yeah, perfect is all relative in the eye of the beholder.

For me the perfect game has PVP with meaningful player objectives to create, defend and destroy.  LotRO won't ever have that, so it can't ever be perfect for me.

Still a nice, well run game though, and for those who enjoy what it delivers, I'm sure it will be their favorite game.

We had a good time last night in LoTRO PvMP.  (I play only Creep btw)

We defended a couple towers/keeps from the Freeps, then hopped into the new public dungeon and killed some stuff (PvE) then ran across a group of Freeps trying to kill a boss, so we slaughtered them, then killed the boss after it reset.

We poked around and killed more PvE stuff, a few more bosses, then the towers/keeps shifted hands and groups of Freeps started coming into the new dungeon, we tried to fight a large group of freeps but they owned us, I think we only killed 2-3 of them before they wiped us.

It was fun.

Point is, the PvE new dungeon is only accessible if your side controls 3/5 of the PvP objectives, and control of the objectives can switch while people are in the dungeon, so you can then come in behind PvE groups and PvP them. It's the first attempt of hopefully many more to give more meaning and point the the PvMP game other then advancing your ranking/rating.

I like the way you classify LOTRO as a themepark game, and then the bit about reading a book. It really does capture that feel . I am one of those people that don't mind that too much, for various reasons, but it should be noted that I would love to find a sandbox type MMO as well and would probably play both, satisfying both desires.

To say "all you needed to do was slap down harvesters to get mats. in SWG is a slap to the face to any1 who ever played/ knew what crafters did". The mats had about 8-10 diferant "stats" all of which affected the item which you crafted and the stats could be from 1-999. Diferant stats were used in diferant crafting. but in Lotro its just mine copper its always copper not copper from 1-999 in quality its just copper know what i mean?

anyway im not going to hijack this thread and now for my construcktive post lol.

LOTRO has a lot of good points better than WoW but it is a lot like WoW in some ways. the PVP is kinda lame in some ways granded i only played to lvl 36 and never got higher then that but i liked the trate system which was a great add on...

Skipp

can't say it was better then SWG or even close to it tho....

OP said the crafting was "fun" in LOTRO. I don't know how some people find it "fun" to run around and grind million ore to advance in Metalworking. The actual mining does not bother me but when you have to run around like 4000 kilometers everyday after ore nodes, thats just stupid.

We've already been over the obvious explanation of the class part.  It was done with the resources they had.  They are not the largest...far as I know.

Have to agree with you on the crazy grind for resources to advance a tier.  I'm usually almost out the level range when I finish the tier.  Well if not out of it.  Yeah I mostly duo so go ahead and use that against me. heh

Yeah you can craft some great things but I'd still like to see some improvements there.  Hopefully somewhere along a middle ground or other compromise.

I wouldn't say this game is anywhere near 'perfect'.  I will say this game is a LOT of fun.  And that trumps perfect anyday.  I honestly have not had a time in this game where I was bored.  I am always having to decide what I am going to do next.  THAT is a good thing.

I personally have a thing for sandbox games, which this game is not, but it has a lot of stuff to do, so that helps a lot.  You have leveling, crafting, PvP, instancing, deeds and none of it really feels like grinding (well, deeds do later on, but... whatever).

This is the culmination of years of experience in the MMO industy and it shows.  Good Work Turbine.

I actually really enjoy the crafting.  I like how easy it is to make gear that's useful for your level.  Have to agree on some of those resource grinds, though.  Getting to grand master in anything is absolutely brutal.

LoTRO is nowhere near perfect.  But I like the direction that is has gone compared to the other level/ quest based/ PVE focused MMOs.  And I like where the game is headed.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Yep I was going to write that to agree with what you and Jmgmail said but was about to write a post on another thread so I hesitated.  N
