Hi all,
It seems that LOTRO is almost the perfect game. It has great graphics, great storyline, a nice loot system, and fun crafting.
It seems to me if Turbine just added a class or two, and really did something to ramp up PvP play, then they'd have the perfect MMO.
Sadly, it seems their greatest asset (the LOTRO IP), might also be their greatest restraint and downfall. |

LOTRO is close to being a perfect game that has classes and levels, without real PvP. I am not making fun of LOTRO, but I'm pointing out some of the things it lacks. I agree with your point about the IP limiting it. The music system is fun, and the Shire is one of the best starting areas I've been to in an MMO.
Turbine should apply what it has with LOTRO and come out with AC3! |

I like LOTRO alot...With the update today (book 12) they are adding even more cool features. But PvP is kinda weird in this game! I definantly think they should ramp it up, and also add Arena's...I think it has the potential to have a really good Arena system.

LOTRO PvP is a fun diversion and should remain that. The "END GAME" is in Mordor and thats years away. You live in the story and fool around while you way for its next chapter. I will note though that Book 12 brings PvP and PvE together with a PvP controlled PvE dungeon. This really gives those of us not into PvP a reason to do more of it. Its the perfect game for me and many others...but no game will ever be perfect for everyone. |

I definitely think it's a very good game, and I play it a lot despite the fact that I strongly dislike many aspects of its basic design, including the class/level system, the itemization, and the cramped environments. |

I agree that pvp is a good piece missing from the game, but other then that is it is a solid piece of software. If I want pvp I can log in to Shadowbane and remeber how much I like to just PVE lol . |

LOTRO is a nice game but i agree that to be perfect is more a matter of taste. I didt lik the design myself either, nor the lvl of character customization or classes/professions system. Found combat a litle boring to watch as well. So to me its not perfect at all but still a good game. |

Originally posted by rikilii I agree. Its a game system and should get as much attention as any other. Its just that though, an equal game system and should not get more attention than others. We have all seen games that say they are PvE and PvP but than the development team gets obsessed by PvP changes that negativly impact the rest of the game. Luckily, its not really PvP but PvMP and all those balancing issues between classes hardly exist. If there is a problem, buffing or nurfing the monsters can take care it without re-enginerring classes that are also used for PvE. There have been some, but minimal. The game will never be the same again if they ever make the huge mistake of making PvP between the classes. |

I really enjoy LOTRO, and the IP is one reason for that, but I don't think it's the perfect game, or even almost the perfect game. A couple months ago I started a write up about the pefect MMO (in my opinion) and it's nothing like LOTRO. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to finish the write up, so I can't share it now, but here are some highlights:
