This post is about slowing down combat in the NGE. What I don't like is Blix's response in this.
I really dislike the whole "can't do" attitude they've been passing off. Also this complete inability to be creative. The players want combat to be slower, does that automatically mean dramatically changing the entire game? I spent five minutes thinking about this and came up with a work around. Remove auto attack, not necessarily from the entire game just hide it. Create a level 1 special attack called "Attack" that does an attack with no damage modifiers and costs 0 stamina. Find some way to make the action repeatable. Set the cooldown timer to however fast you want combat to be. There. Would that work? I dunno, but I thought of a way around it without overhauling the whole damn thing. Doesn't do anything about run speed but that's a different hurdle. Its definitely something that could at the very least be tested. I'm just sick of hearing "it can't be done" in regards to everything people keep asking for. Instead all their effort is put into adding systems that nobody asked for, ripped from other games that did it better. |

Just wait until SOE ruins *your* game... |
It's more that the current development team has no clue what to do with the current code. All the original programmers are gone and the skeleton crew that's left is only capable of copy/paste artwork and simplistic things like collections. They have actually admitted that when they went to work on the space game for Chapter 8 they didn't have a single person on the team who knew anything about the JTL code. They actually had to go talk to the players in the pilot forum to figure things out. So while Blixtev says it wouldn't be a good idea to do a 180 on something like combat speed the truth is they don't know how. |

Hogwash! pulling a 180 at any point during the development of swg has always been advisable... oh I get it, he's pulling a 180 about pulling 180s now. I'm on to you Blix! |

All they have to do to slow it down by 50% is to increase damage 50%. But then Blix is too stupid to know that.

the devs have no idea what to do with the game. they have put in lame content that no one wants. i mean how many people liked space? all the players i knew and i knew alot hated jump to lightspeed and the action gamers who came in. and they make a whole publish about space? i bet 2k players left the game just do to that. swg is going to die unless the pre-cu comes back in at this point. |

Originally posted by iwantmyswg No they don't, because they are all noob devs who are college entry level devs who NEVER saw a pre PREQUEL Star Wars movie in the theater. The vet devs are eternal losers like Blixtev. The current Dev team would hide under a bed and cry if asked to manage Pre-CU. Total incompetence. Of course SOE in general lacks talent... Think SOE will divert talent to SWG? No... Not ever.

Originally posted by iwantmyswg Actually, and this is by no means a flame, alot of people after the NGE went into space. It was the only area of the game they didn't completely mess up. Space was like a haven for those folks who couldn't stand the ground game and still wanted to play SW:G. In fact, I made the arguement back in Septembe, when they were discussing/asking about what new content should be added, someone brought adding in the underwater Gungan cities. Several, including a dev said that was impossible due to they couldn't modify the ground engine to handle it. I simply pointed out that space is a completely different engine than the ground game and could be easily modified to make this possible. It just goes to show, like many here have already said, the current dev team just doesn't seem to know how to code the current engine in any form. *Professional note* In most game engines there is usually a scripting language that allows you to add assets and change things without changing the base code (think mods to Unreal and the Morrowind TES). I have a feeling this is all they can do at this point. |
