When I was a kid back in the early 80's, the word 'doofus' was used in an unflattering way to describe a person. That's the first thing I think of when I think of the name. Maybe that slang no longer has meaning though.
In theory I think the permadeath idea is an interesting one. But there are so many ways to die in an mmo that have nothing to do with your ability, but rather technical problems with a person's computer, the server, the internet, etc. Also, people cheat, hack, etc so permadeath sounds like a pretty steep penalty when so many things can go wrong that have nothing to do with one's ability to pvp.
Another thing that struck me as interesting is they are incorporating a hardcore element in a game that graphically looks like something an 8 year old would think is appealing. Now I hear two opposing views from the hardcore camp regarding graphics. One is they can't play WOW because of the kiddie, cartoony graphics; and the other is that graphics don't matter. So it will be interesting to see how much appeal this game has for hardcore players.

Originally posted by Terranah The slang still applies even if it's not used that much anymore. You have to wonder who chose the name for this game. It's like naming a game 'Brainless' or 'Noobs'. Just can't see telling anyone that I'm playing a game called that |
