Starcraft II is in developpment.
No idea what their next MMO will be, but I would be surprised if they work on someone else IP. - "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - René Levesque about the denial NO on the poll to his dream, project and goal. (Free translation) |

This makes no sense... Blizzard... Warhammer... and Star Trek have nothing to do with each other. Three completely different things. Chevrolet - Just imagine they take Cannonball Run, do to it what they did to the Mustang... the possibilities... "Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are." |

Activision bought Vivendi games, which means they own Blizzard. In fact the new company is called Activision Blizzard so don't be surprised if they're doing an Activision IP. Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity. |

Does any of that even matter? If they took Warhammer IP and turned it into Warcraft with such succes, logic dictates they could do even more with Star Trek IP. There is more lore, more options and I like SF more anyway, so for me it would be a win win situation. There are some quotes saying that their next MMO won't be abything like WoW so I'm not afraid of it becoming a item centric grind fest. As for the IP, I would like to see Starcraft as an MMO, I realy would, but in this case I think Starcraft IP is too limited for a true universe feel. It would have to be all about war, but I would like many gimmicky features and social aspects so crafters and socialisers can progress doing their own thing and we can fight our own war, so we don't have to fight on the forums and call people carebears and immature. Star Trek could do that much better. That said, I also wouldn't like it to be just a clone, but Star Trek, grittyer, darker and with more destruction, optional ofcourse. And also, there would be no issues with Zerg and finding ways to make them work. More aliens, more faction based progresion and more space could prove to be very fun in an MMO, especialy if the aliens aren't slimy discusting hive type mindless killers. Zerg would be an ideal The Enemy, but there would always be some of us who would rather play Zerg, not just kill it.

Warcraft is based of every game ever relased. They just steal ideas and polish them. Name one thing warcraft innovated. |

One thing hmmm... A wider acknowledgement of the MMO genre and widening the customer base A working polished MMO that can be played by a wide audience
Okay thats two points and you only asked for one, but you get my point, these 'who stole ideas' posts just get boring and tedious after a while... no game can claim to have 'original' ideas when everything came from myths of old. |

Originally posted by SioBabble I'm willing to bet a million dollars you didn't actually play at launch of WoW. What's really funny is judging from your "pre-NGE was like paradise" postings, you also forget how unbelievably buggy it was as well. |

Originally posted by VincenzOriginally posted by warzone100 Well..that's what they just said. As for maybe, that's a no go though. Blizzard admitted as much. Their first idea was to make a Warhammer PC game, but that's WAY back when PC games were new. Games Workshop said no way (Dumb idea on their part) and so the Blizzard guys changed it just enough so they couldn't get sued Warcraft Orcs and Humans-Warhammer Orcs and Humans were 2 of the original factions. Even the dwarves with the scottish accents and muskets are out of Warhammer. Check some of the old brochures from games Workshop for yourself. All of this is ancient history though, and totally beside the point. What the OP said is that they should take Star Trek, and 'Blizzardize' it like they did to Warhammer, and make a 'trek MMO'. that's it, and I'd have to agree. I'd love to see a Blizzard skill-based game. Could they do it? Sure. WOW is item-based because they went with the tried and true EQ model, that's all. Hardly anything new, but they polished it up better than any company before, that's what they do. They take old ideas, and make them right. |

My honest opinion is that if Blizzard do decide to do a space MMO (and that section of this genre needs a boost) it should be Starcraft. But my true bet on this matter feels that Blizzard will be designing a new IP to add to their already amazing main three. As much as I love Blizzard I dont think I would want them to take an already engrained IP and make a game from it, they are all about their own creations and sagas. If however you mean should the startrek online IP be made in a Blizzard style then in some respects yes it should.A polished, easy access game thats fun to play and easy to get into is not a bad thing in my books, aslong as they follow Star Trek franchise and dont diversify off for the sake of a quick buck. If a company can produce this I dont care whose name is on the box... apart from maybe SoE (I still dont trust them, but thats another story and my own engrained opinion)

Originally posted by Vincenz No, didn't play it on launch. But the thing is, they did something about it. SOE did not. PreCU SWG had its problems, to be sure, but it also had a game that inspired loyalty among many dispite its problems. Then they ditchted that system for a WoW clone that missed the point that made WoW an unprecedented hit: polished, relatively bug-free gameplay and a dedication to keeping it that way. This is why WoW is so successful, and why World Of StarWars is not. CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested. Once a denizen of Ahazi |

Well, all I'll tell you is if you think WoW was some sort of bug-free super launch, you clearly haven't read about the Plague. This is a bug so legendary that it's actually being studied by the medical profession. |
