Thanks EVE, but I don't think I'll stay a second month. Why, you ask? Well I'll try to explain (and it may just be my inexperience, but this is why):

1) Biggest reason is that all areas look too much alike, save for different backdrops and a few structures. I don't feel like exploring space at all.
2) Combat (against NPCs) has so far been just target-orbit-shoot-repair-repeat, it doesn't feel engaging at all. If I feel I'm losing I have to ge to a station and buy better gear and try again, I can't really change in the middle of combat.
3) PVP - I can't stand the PKers camping jumpgates and attack as you enter the system. And if they attack I have one option - to flee.
4) I wish piloting spaceships would be more fun and feel more hands-on.
5) Atmosphere, no sorry, it's cold, dark and hostile, and all channels are full of trash. Not how I want to relax after work.

The game has loads of good stuff, but I can't see myself playing it every day. I *think* the reasons above is why I don't have fun enough.

PS
No, you can't have my stuff!! I'm still curious about the Ambulation expansion. I want my little pilot to settle on a nice green planet. ;)

Well, thanks for trying, and see you again after Ambulation comes out. Don't forget to leave a long skill training! :D

Well, i feel sorry that you had seen those sides of Eve.

But i get the feeling that we will have you back soon. I have seen several people stating exactly the same you wrote, then trying the game again after a while, getting into a good corp, and getting addicted instantly for years to come.

Thanks for trying Eve. You are welcome when you come back. ;)

Well nothing wrong here we are flying spaceships afterall.
3) PVP - I can't stand the PKers camping jumpgates and attack as you enter the system. And if they attack I have one option - to flee. Yea they can be a pain till you learn how to avoid them or get past them unless your part of a organised groupe but that isant for everyone.

I largely agree with your  points here for example the lack of scenery is a bit of a bore. Although i will say that for some time CCP have been hinting that one day this will change netherless id say it will be a while..

1) Its space, its pretty open and black IRL.  Go play a fantasy game with elves if you want more color.

2) Combat gets way more involving once you get more SP and go deeper into space. But, I agree with you on this point first starting out.

3) Ya this sucks.  Your best bet is to join a large corp in a good alliance and have some people on your back.  its space however, and it is hostile, not a trip to Disney Land.

4) I agree 100%

Hey Frkhot

I know it is hard for old Ryzom player to find a new home. But if you are attracted to EVE - but it didnt really "click" for you...do not despair

There is hope

And it is called Jumpgate Evolution

It is going to have all the complexity of EVE , but in same time be its exact opposite

1.Twitch based - newtonian physics flight - difficult as hell

2. No skills or levels  - no more power simply because you were subscribed longer

3. PVP with much greater focus on PVE - Intelligent NPCs that trade, go about their lives, fight , pirate, mine

4. According to screenies the graphic will blow your head and all that will run on most modest of PCs

5. Much more CASUAL !

Get ready for the following comments:

"You're not smart enough to understand Eve."

"Combat is indeed highly intricate you're just missing the point."

"Grief play is part of the Eve experience because Eve is a cold harsh universe"

Anytime anyone states the reasons you mentioned above these things get referenced.

From one Ryzom player to another.

1] Many areas do look similar, but some can be quite intriguing. They get much more interesting as you go deeper as well. I will say exploring Atys was far more interesting than exploring empty space, but depeneding on your goals and your objectives, it can be just as fun.

2] Combat was similar in Ryzom as well, you adjust your ships much in the way you adjust your stanzas. The targets do seem much more static than Ryzom's roaming herds, but once you reach higher level missions, they can get to be very involving.

3] PvP - not really one of my strong suits, nor is it something I look for. My suggestion is if you don't enjoy getting camp-camped, don't travel to systems in Low-sec areas. When your ready and have the skills to tackle the griefers, then do so.

4] I do wish the ships were more hands on also, but it is also nice at times not having to worry about piloting a ship when your managing drones, 8+ turrets, targeting, repairing, etc. all in a real short period of time. Jumpgate may be a better solution for a more hands-on approach, but I think the way EVE is detailed, it just wouldn't be suitable.

5] Space is cold, it is hostile but with the right Corporation it can be a better place. The community is far from the what you enjoyed in Ryzom and I will say there is no other that compares. The channels are filled with the likes of mindless trash, this I agree. Though this too also goes back on the idea of getting with a good Corp.

EVE may not be the best replacement for Ryzom, though I am not sure that was your intention. The two differ quite a bit, but they both offer unique styles of gameplay. If you feel your in need of a good Corp, and are a roleplayer, check out The House of Marek to see what we're about.

Otherwise, best of luck to you in your search for MMO bliss.
