Managed to play a little last night, as they hadn't added in the IP blocker, but now can't connect any longer

I am truly gutted as I finally found a game I enjoyed and now can't play

Hope my American friends can enjoy what sadly as a English Citizen I am not privileged enough to experience

indeed, it's truly sad. ever since Nexon opened a european office they have started to block european IP's on games hosted by Nexon of America, even if those games don't have an european counterpart.

the Maple story global (which is actually not so global) does not allow europeans to create an account to force players to Maple Story Europe, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that Maple story europe's version update is way behind the Global one.

Asiasoft (Nexon's South East Asian partner) runs MapleSEA (Maplestory) here for Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines' players but it seems that they're more interested in gearing up to launch CABAL instead along with RO2. Quite puzzling if you ask me as CABAL had been around and possibly with watered down anticipations by this time of the year.

SEA players won't be seeing early Mabinogi actions too..

the ip block is important as to many players conecting from other countries will lag the intire server and cause problems for ever players on the server

You should just ask for a european release. I believe 10T studios handles that stuff in europe.

p.s. its ok to want to play the game but it would be unjust to cause problems for every one on the server just so you and a few others can play.

they want a market but wont cater for it. nexon can suck my hairy ones....  and thats the reason why i would never play a piece of crap game like this..

nexon has nothing to do with the game other then hosting it

dev cat made and owns the game

nexon is likely even locked into a contact as far as hosting the game and totally at the whim of dev cat

dev cat likely only gave right to nexon to host in north america

so if you could play from europe nexon would get sued by dev cat for over stepping the contract

dev cat likely does not have a european host at this time

With your statement of one person lagging will cause everyone to lag is really only seen in a peer to peer gaming enviroment, which isnt used in modern era mmos.
If that did happen in a client server setup you would just need one person to have a cruddy dial up connection in the native area to lag out the whole server.
But as I said earler it should not happen.

As for the OP, find a decent Proxy Server.

That is a poor reason.  When Europeans are online playing, most Americans are at work. There's very little, if any, impact on server loads.

With a standard server client setup. Only your client would have issues. Other people will still be fine but would  see you 'jumping' around as you move. Looks like a blinking effect, you're here then your there as you move from one area to the next. But most games gave a prediction system that fixes that so it makes everyones movement smooth.

but how does that get around the fact that nexon dos not own the game dev cat does

and nexon is only contracted for north american release and would be in court if they release a game they dont own in a counrty or area not stated in their contract.

sorry you will have to ask dev cat to release the game in europe

kk how about dev cat only gave nexon the contract for a north american release and would be sued for releasing a game they dont own in a different country or area

I did.

This particular program is used to secure-tunnel your connection to a wireless router. While I do have a wireless router in my home, I doubt I am in much danger of getting hacked on my own connection. At any rate, this program does nothing for the issue at hand, which is that I need to connect to the Mabinogi servers with an IP different than my own.

On a side note, why are they blocking certain American IPs anyways? I've never had this problem with other games.

you actually tried it ?because that program work for me. i can log on

actually long distance communication does have some affect.  it's just low level operating system packet handling.   the further a packet handling travels the more likely it is to get lost in the network(a router or similar just dropping it, a built in defense to prevent network clutter).  under UDP this packet stays lost, but with TCP which is used for most communication the operating system will keep resending a packet until it gets a confirmation packet from the computer it sent to.

but it's for the most part ignorable to everyone except those who tend to get lost packets. 

I'm from Europe, but I want to play the game so bad that I'm currently trying out all programs which allow you to mask your IP and take on a false one. Tried Hot Spot shield too, but didn't work for me. Working on Ninja Surfing now. It gave me an USA IP but I still couldn't log in. Currently changing some settings and it's looking for a Proxy. I'm not going to give up!

EDIT: I tried Hot Spot Shield again and it worked! I can play now! Everyone use it!

I'm gonna give that HotSpopt Shield a try myself, so you just need to instal it activate it and launch mabinogi ?

Yeah install it, run it, wait for it to be connected and start Mabinogi. It worked for me and a couple of other people who had the same problem.

Again you seem to be mis-informed. Just because a company releases a game that can be accessed by multiple areas does not mean they are releasing in those areas. Blocking IP ranges is a tactic that is ineffective and creates needless problems. Some people in North America have been blocked along with people outside the target area. It will probably take weeks or months to correct the issues and even then it will an ongoing issue as IPs are leased by 5 regional RIRs and IPs can change geographical locations in a matter of hours.

As to the other comment about UDP vs TCP. Most but not all communication is done through UDP to decrease the load on servers. Now not all games use UDP, but many do because the error correction of TCP is not really necessary for these games. Since character storage and critical calculations are done server side there is not a critical need to get every packet to the client. Even then if you are talking about 1000 - 2000 people having issues it would not significantly increase the load on these servers even if they do use TCP for client/server packet transfer.
