1) How long does it take to reach max level?  Game play hours please.

2) Is there a good site out there that has info about the different classes and skills?  I like to find out about that info ahead of time.

3) Is inflation completely out of control?  Can a new player to the game purchase items or do you need a max level character to farm money.

4) At max level do people need to rep grind or farm mats to compete?

If you do not play the game please do not flame it in this post. I am seeking info to determine for myself I want to play the game.  Thanks to anyone who posts useful information in advance.

1) Personally, I've taken my own sweet time getting to 50.  But we do have one guildy that seems to have perfected the leveling route and she's taken 4 toons to 50 and it get's faster everytime.  My best guess is that she leveled her last toon to 50 in 120 game hours.  The key is, never grind, just move from one quest-line to another, and drop quests when they are no longer higher cons and move onto the next.  Not my cup of tea, but it's a good leveling strategy.

edit update:  With the quest log now holding 50 quests... the approach is to load up on all the quests in an area whereby killing one mob, helps with maybe 3-4 quests.  For example, Bob wants you to kill Pride Lions because they are terrorizing his village.  Joe wants the skins from Pride Lions.  Al wants you to kill Pride Lions to provde your worth.  And all along, you are also getting exp for actually killing the lions.  It's an over-simplication, but it demonstrates the point that careful management of your questing is the best line to leveling fast if that is want you want to do.

2) I think every class has it's own site.  www.vgpsi.com for example.  The Shammy and Bloodmage ones are down currently, apparently the guy that ran both is MIA.  Those two communities are working on moving those sites.  It's a very good time check the class sites when deciding what to play.  All the classes are going through changes.  For example, Warriors have been completed, Druids are due in GU4 and Psionicists are scheduled for GU5.

3) On Seradon, the economy seems to be fine.  Lower level items on the broker are very affordable.  However, you'll probably fine that you can outfit yourself with a lot of great gear from quests.

4) Dunno.  I'm not a crafter.

MMorpg - The blessing, and The curse of modern gaming.

I started 1 day ago, so i am still a newbie, but still going to try to help you as new player. Btw i guess you former WoW player :)

1. Depends of you, but there is really no rush maxing yourself to lvl 50, its not Wow, where 1-69 lvls, are just pain in ahole and pure usless game experience, where at lvl 70 you just start playing the game. This game is to enjoy, no matter what lvl you are. You wouldnt like to have sex with stunning porn star, and finish in 3 secs, dont ya?

2.  Looking for it aswel, ussually i ask in channels in game, And 100% i get answer back, with no flamming back,if you ask me, its strange after WoW...., couze this game have some mature community, And people learning it aswel with you, and they just happy , that new players join that community.

3. You can make money even at loe lvls, farming system is a Blast, you can start making good items ( for your lvl) even at low crafting lvls/skills. Basicly crafting will make you thing, not just mindless grinding farming/ mouse cliking competition. Btw, in this game money do have value... atleast from what i sow.

4.Dunno about max lvl, but there is really alot of stuff to do. Adventuring/Crafting/Diplomacy/Housing( which i cant wait!!!)

And yes there are loads of rep factions, so if you whana grind your ass of, plees, be my guest :D.

Hopefully i help atleast a bit m8!

1: You can reach max level pretty fast in VG. It all depends on your style of play (hardcore or casual). I'd hazard a guess that you could hit cap in a month or a little less if you stuck to the quest lines. Search this board, there's a post by Zippy I believe with a rundown of where to go to quest at each level range.

2. Check the links section at vgplayers.com for all the class sites. All of them are listed there.

3. If you harvest while you level you'll have no problem with money and you'll be able to outfit yourself with nice gear from quests. I wouldn't worry about buying much of anything until you reach 40, then you can work on optimizing gear if you're into that.

4. Not sure what you mean by this question. There are plenty of faction grinds that you can do but they are optional. If you mean is it like WoW where you have to farm mats between raids to be able to raid then no, you don't.

Hope this info is helpful.

I appreciate the information and quick responses.

Apperently, question 4 was a bit ambigous.  I do not want to be forced to grind rep or mats just to compete.

I would say around 30 days played for your first character and getting substantially faster with each one after. There are people who have made 50 adventuring in 17 days played (perhaps less).

Likewise, crafting and diplomacy take much longer and add to the overall time if you choose to participate in either of those spheres.

Your best bet for catching up with the economy is to begin harvesting early (or crafting if it's something you enjoy), and stay away from the broker. You will find that adventuring rewards offer little to your bank, but keep harvesting and run the early quest lines for gear/weapons and you'll make some cash fairly quick. There are plenty of guilds willing to help out new players, so shop around for one that fits your playstyle.

There is plenty of faction farming near/at level cap.

I cancelled my sub to VG a while back, so you can take everything I say with a grain of salt. Most people probably take it with two or more.

EDIT: reference to leveling as "hours" when it should have said "days"

30h is that the norm? 17h, up to level 50 over a weekend.

You're not talking about the extremes now?

Woah, that's more than a little off. Should read "days" played. Thanks for clearing that up Orphes.

It's also important to note that the time can have drastic swings depending on whether you are guilded or with a static group. If you spend an hour looking for a group then only spend an hour adventuring, things slow down quite a bit.
