Mmm so far I have liked it. My kids can play it with me which, for them, is a huge thing. They love playing with me and we go out on the ship together and they man the cannons while I just steer, they have a ball and it's in a relatively 'safe' environment. Which is nice. I don't have to worry about some 40 year old sleezeball trying to hit on my 12 year old daughter, etc. The graphics aren't great, that's true, but quite honestly as long as graphics aren't so outdated that they break immersion (these aren't) I really don't care about graphics. Graphics can help a bad game be better or they can weaken a great game a little but on a 'decent' game you really only need 'decent' graphics for the game to remain 'decent'. PotCO is not a great game nor is it an awesome game. But it is a 'decent' game and the pricepoint IS awesome. The "FREE" game does appear to be more of a trial than a fully playable game but it is still fun and entertaining. My wife and I are discussing getting a full subscription for our daughter as she really seems to like the game. And, as has been mentioned before, the pricepoint of this game is half what most others are. Overall? It's a fun little game that I can play with my kids. Can't say that for PotBS (which, imo, isn't even as fun) or EVE (which is my favorite MMORPG currently available to play) or any number of other MMO's. It's just 'grown up' enough that I can have fun with it and still 'young' enough that the kids can enjoy it too. Which is Disney's motto really "Fun for the whole family". If I want an ADULT MMO? I play EVE. If the kids want to play a game with me? Then we launch this. And if my daughter wants to be a pirate lass? She plays this as well. |

couldnt agree with you more.. “There are dread secrets that none may know and have peace. More, secrets that render whosoever knoweth them an alien unto the tribe he belongs to, that cause him to walk alone on earth, for he who takes, pays.” -E. Hoffmann Price |

i find this to be one of the best pirate games online, its only problem was the lag when it was released but i think thats fixed now,a great aspect of the game is sailing with a crew, manning multiple cannons and instead of being just a 3rd person view of the ship, you also get a 3rd person view of your pirate on the ship which is a real step forward for pirate games, not to mention first-person cannon shooting. You have two choices,Die quick or Live tortured...choose wisely...I'll make you regret either choice |

My opinion on the game: Pirates is quite a fun game, strangely addictive though, (almost like RS when you first played it) but my opinion the game is quite simple. One of the best parts of the game are the quests. Unfortunetly though, it's very limited. You can only go so far in the main quest before you HAVE to become a member to continue on anymore. Also, besides the main quest, there aren't really anymore "fun" ones to do. The weapons in the game are limited. 6 Weapons with a max level of 25 (7 if non-member) They need to add more levels and if at all possible, more weapons. The other best part of the game is the ship battes. There is nothing like having a crew of people blow up some ships. Although limited to buying ships, you just have to find a member . :) Overall: Great game, fun to play, especially since the movies were so great. Although the worst part is that the game is too much like a Single-Player type game, and not so much as a community thing. |

This is a pretty fun game...Ive been enjoying my self, and its a nice break from WoW. Granted the graphics arent the best, but really does that effect the gameplay? Not everyone has a "L33t" machine that you can turn the settings up to supernova and still be able to hold good FPS. And as far as the "Grind"....combat is fast paced, and acually it doesnt take long to lvl, the skill system reminds me of the good old days in SWG pre-NGE, and probably the best part....it doesnt take long to make ingame money so....no gold farmers spamming you every 5 seconds. A few things that they do need to address tho....server lag and rubberbanding is pretty bad even on ideal or quiet servers. They should put in ship to ship PvP. The word censor in the chat code can be a pain in the rear....although I can live with this, because of all the young people playing the game. All in all...I am having a great time with this game, but would also like to try out PotBS to see which Pirate earns the Jolly Roger

Great deal of fun for me. I don't worry with graphics. As a matter of fact, far better games have been released in text format than some of the pointlessness that gets stamped, priced and released today. What gets rated a good game these days is, for the most part, beyond me. Absolute gems have gone under the carpet, while games with photo realism and seven boards are praised on high. Thumbs up to Pirates of the Caribbean. It's a free download, and carries a basic maintenance price of nine bucks a month. Basically free. I say fine job. Yes there is lag, and I've been thrown off quite a few times. Still having fun. But my big peeve is that chatbox censor. Right in the middle of combat/ship seige, I'm trying to back up and correct spelling. Extremely aggravating. All I want to type is "Cannons Portside!" And here I am backing up to correct spelling! I know how to turn it off... doesn't like to work in whisper mode. But in the heat of combat, i'm not looking at that little "plus" by the skull. Very bad. Very aggravating indeed. Steed Gallow in the game folks. Say hi! |
