I've not played the game at all yet, but my impression of what I've seen is the avatar part of the game isn't even meant to be half the game, the focus is more on the ship part of the game, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.  But this would explain why the avatar part of the game isn't so wonderful and like others have said before I'd expect to see improvements in that area as the game rounds to form.

Amen Mith you hit it on head.  Vincenz nothing this game does will please you and we all are very aware of that fact, so I guess you'll just have to find a game that does hold your interest somewhere else.  Good luck on finding that game( i really truely hope you do find that game)!

The Avatar combat is used in some mission, and even in ship missions you can board the enemy ships so it can be a big part of the combat.  I like to board some of the enemy ships early in an engagement to take them out quickly, Shoot the sails, Canister the crew, and then board.  Others prefer to blast away and either system seems to work, up to you how you want to approach the problem.  Hope that answers your question.

wow..crafting and pvp suck

swgnge= combat system sucks

eq2= too many quests suck (i actually saw a few people post this)

lotro = wow cookie cutter sucks

etc

There is NO ideal mmo for everyone, but there are ideal mmos for each person. Just because one game is not your cup of tea DOES NOT mean another person can't enjoy it

Avatar combat does not make up half this games content. 10-20% at best. Out of 10 quest you will do in a town 8 will be ship related, with 2 being avatar island related. Avatar's are not a focus on this game, it is just something put in there as a filler between big open sea battles. Quit focusing on Avatars and Avatar combat and just take it for what it truly is. If you really want some good Avatar action it comes on Nickelodeon and is called :

Avatar : The Last Airbender

It has all the combat goodness a "Avatar" should need.

For goodness sake Vincenz go back over to the DDO forums where you actually have a positive outlook on life and meaningful things to say.

And I would say that the unrealistic smurfy posts of "this game roxxors" aren't very helpful either.  This is a new game, people come here to find out about it...the reality of it...not the "superduper reviewer" aspect of the devoted.

Virtually every post I make about the game has reasons to back it up.  I post what specifically I don't like, or disagree with.

The DDO sucking or not sucking has nothing to do with PotBS. (Tho I found it to be an enjoyable game).

I ignore post like that and usually do not even finish reading them.

Like I would never go into DDO, even tho I haven't played it in a year, and try to start posting what I disliked about it, because my views more than likely are horse poo. MMO's change, and this is true for most MMO's that if you haven't truly invested the time in them, you can't truly be taken serious when you bash one. I never got max level in DDO and so you would crush me in a negative discussion on that game.

Very few games I feel that I have earned the right to bash. EQ, DAoC, and WoW. These 3 games I invest 3+ years each in them. Achieved everything I wished to achieve. If I want to start bashing these 3 games, I have every amount of ammo I need to bash them.  Tho I would never bash them. I quit them all except DAoC for various reasons, but they are all great games in their own rights.

NOONE has played PotBS enough to bash it or even post negative on it yet in my eyes. It has not even come out yet. Half of what that games intended purpose, has not been tried live yet. Until tomorrow on Live day when the PvP goes 100% and people try every aspect of the game. Then they play it for a few months to know everything they need to know. Then come in here and bash away with the ammo you earned through playing to bash it or post negative. 80% of the threads inside PotBS are garbage and should be looked at as garbage.

I do not consider anyone on MMORPG my "boyz".

I am not defending any post that has graced itself across any of these threads either.

I tried PotBS. I play it on occassion. Is it fantastic? I do not think there is a "fantastic" mmo released to date.

Is it a decent game, Yes, for those people it was marketed to.

I have never seen anything ,movie, or website that lead me to believe it was avatar focused. Is swahbuckling there. YEP it's there so they could market it that way if they like.

You sound as if you thought it was going to be character based on land, and it wasn't so your hanging around to ensure EVERYONE knows that avatar are not the focus. Trust me there are enough threads already here to explain that avatars are not the focus of PotBS.

We no longer need you hanging around to enforce this fact. It is quite clear.

For those that do not know this, will try it and then come here and post 100 more threads about how bad the game sucks.

The game doesn't suck, it is designed for strategic ship combat and pvp with a secondary focus on economy and trade.

You can play one, you can "swashbuckle" a sword. So they didn't lie about anything. Is it up to your expectations, obviously not. Does it appeal to some, sure it does. You are not changing anyones minds not to play it. Just leave it be.....

Most movies I have watched on it focus on ships and ship battles.  When I bought the game, I was expecting to captain a ship and shoot cannons. I could care less about my lil pirate avatar.

Actually, unless you know the criterior 100% of people are using to decide whether to buy this game then ALL comments are valid.  Even "I don't like the lettering on the box."

 

It all works toward sales.  That's marketing feedback. 

Everyone has different expectations on what they want from an MMORPG. Since these boards have been started we have heard it all.

1. Avatar combat sucks

2. Everything is instanced

3. Crafting sucks because it isn't diverse

4. Graphics suck

5. Lacks skills

6. Lacks quest and is boring

7. PvP is not FFA it has to be flagged.

8. Blah Blah Blah

All these points have been established, all of these points have been made well aware of.

All these points are also all opinions.

There is enough info out there on PotBS to last 2 life times.

I really do not think very many people come here with the idea of listening to everyones opinions on if a game is worthy of playing or not. Those who want to try it are in game playing as we speak. (I am at work during the day so I just browse forums) Those who are not going to play it or have no interest in playing are right here on MMORPG telling everyone how bad it sucks. What is unfortunate is some shallow minded people are going to read all this hooplah and decide not to try games (not just this one cause every MMO on this site is plagued by this). When many of these games are very play worthy.
