I have been playing Guild Wars for a school semester now (August 25th till tomorrow). I quit WoW because I thought it was "repetative" and "boring" and all you could do was raid to get better. Well I was wrong. After playing Guild Wars, I've come to the conclusion, you can't beat WoW as a game. WoW, in my opinion, just has more to do. GW got dull once you beat the story line. WoW, you can get rich, get more gear, raid, quest, play the BGs. GW you can start a new character or play the dreadful Alliance Battles, or title farm (which is worse than leveling 10 characters from 1-70). Props to Blizz for showing that this is the best game out there... I'm hopefully joining up again tomorrow when I'm done with my last final.
and i'll probably get flammed for my post, but whatever. The internet isn't that super. |

Although I agree with the message I personally don't think GW qualifies as a "real" MMO so the comparison is sort of Bleh ^^
But yeah, been playing WoW with a few breaks ever since it got released now and still enjoying myself

No offence, but GW was and never will be a mmorpg, why it's listed here on this site is beyond me. I guess you could say, "you get what you pay for" in this case seeing as GW doesn't have a monthly thus you won't get the same level of scope as some of the P2P games, even though most aren't even worth paying a monthly fee for, but thats another story. |

Hypothetically speaking...If Guild Wars were a true MMO, class wise it would be probably one of the best if not the best running right now at being balanced. IMO, no one class is structured to be a counter to another. The instancing sux imo, but the pvp has the right idea. Too bad theres auto-facing and practically nothing in terms of movement besides forward, backward, left, and right. It hurt when I first played and there wasn't any jumping or swimming. I like the way the skills are set up though for a fast paced fight. Cooldowns are glorious in Guild Wars. Basically nothing over a min. Even had the level cap been 70 these short cooldowns would make for awesome fights. Bring skills in your own bar to counter an effect given to you. Hex and condition removal. I like how interupting is so clear cut. Hexes are clear cut. Being a healer is action packed and not boring like most real MMO's. always moving to get a great position...even in the pve(pvp is a given). Healing in MMO's like WoW for instance...you can stand in one spot for like most of any battle. Possibilities are endless. GvG is where it's at also. The way a battle can lead all the way up to VoD. Shit I miss that. Alterac Valley should be exactly like GvG. Have a reason to break a team down with holding the center of the map and flag running to gain morale. Imo Arena-net also doesn't get all NERF happy either. When they balance skills and classes it seems to be more so to change the Meta-game. Not really to fix anything that another class cries about being OP.
Anyhow..my 2 cents (more like 65 cents with a note attached that reads...this post is kinda pointless). |

WoW isnt a bad game. And Blizzard arnt BAd people..no mantter how many posters try to villianize it. The fact is that WoW doesnt "Have" you. Its just at this time there is no viable alternative. I wrote an article on my website (below) on how to find a new MMORPG. Take a lok and it may give you some ideas of things to try. Also, take a look at the LFGame board on this website Good Luck Torrential |

WOW is a very very polished game and I think it beat its competition on that and casual friendliness. It makes leveling (via quest) fun. The first few quests that guide you through your abilities and let you familiarize yourself with the game. There are little touches like the "mage punishment quest" with the animation of the apprentices turning into pigs exclaiming "not again" when you published them. I found no other fantasy MMORPG even come close. I have also bought Guild Wars and play a bit (because that seems to be the closest competition) and GW is not as much fun. I used to play EQ and tried EQ2 and don't like it. The only thing I miss is a good polished sci-fi based MMORPG. I tried City of Heroes, and don't like it mcuh. I tried Eve Online and still have not made up my mind. May be Blizzard will make World of Starcraft, if the rumor of them making another MMORPG is correct.
