The point is the problems listed seem to be very exagerated compared to the average player. I am not saying they arent true just that it's not a representtion of the game in it's prestent state. where 6 months ago you were in the majority, now you must see that you are in the minority and that my friend is progress isn't it? i could understand if you were saying there are still bugs, which there are. I for one am not trying to say there arent. but the problems stated here are way beyond that so must see the problem people have in believing you! it seems kind of warmongering more than anything. I admit freely to being a vanboy, but at the same time i recognise preoblems with the game and never try to tell people they are not there, untill this thread. |

Originally posted by inmysightsWow, that stinks that you had such a bad experience. I just started back into Vanguard about a week or so ago and have been having an awesome time. I was a beta tester that never made good on my pre-order because of all the issues the game had at launch. SOE has made a ton of progress though whether people like SOE or not. I'm not saying the game is not without faults right now. It is not anywhere close to as polished as a top flight game like World of Warcraft, but in my view, it has made tremendous progress and is actually a playable and enjoyable game now.

The problem is with the game and its engine along with a number of other things. Take 30 people and log them into Vg and you will most likely get 30 different results. Take those same 30 people and log them into any other game and you will get similar results from all.
The reason VG has tens of thousands of people and not hundreds of thousands is because the code is a mess. I have two hard drives I run on my laptop. One with all my normal mess (including VG) and another with a fresh install of windows and nothing else but VG. So it isn't like I have viruses or other bloat causing these issues. In any given hour I can easily catalog half a dozen errors in the game. From textures not loading on objects, NPC heads floating above their bodies, mysterious light sources, objects not rendering between myself and a MOB causing a line of site error all the way to an occasional crash to desktop or launcher failing to load the game. There are also gameplay issues the pop up all the time. Get the killing blow with an activateble item and the icon will end up on your cursor, quests that cannot be completed (though few), mobs stuck in or under the geometry, etc etc. Most of it however is easy to overlook or you just get used to working around them out of habit.
Nothing has been game breaking for me so far, just lots of annoyances overall which is what I think a lot of people experience to different degrees. Some people love the game and that affects their views of performance, some don't and just walk away. The first thing the producers letter address is "Optimizations; stability; optimizations; stability; optimizations; stability." and it is stated for a reason, because that is the biggest reason for people leaving or giving up. The problem is with the game, not peoples computers.

I'm not a Vanguard hater at all, but I'm also not so blindly in love with the game that I don't see its flaws or think that SOE is going to perform miracles. Actually last April I gave vanguard a pretty good review on this site and took some lumps for it *shrug*. I can see where I was to kind or not experienced enough in certain aspects of the game, but I still think it is ok. Not great by any means, but ok. It's just to bad that everyone is so busy polarizing each other hater or fanboy that there isn't any room in the middle to be anything else. Mind you I do go overboard with my hate for SOE management and the choices I think they shortsold on their games, but I also know form first hand experience that the devs are passionate and talented people who want to make great games. Its a love/hate thing if you will.
The reason I have two copies is because I wanted to see if a clean install would change performance or I would experience less/more problem than on a normal setup. I've tried it with Xp home, XP pro, Vista home premium and Vista business standard just to see if much would change. That was just for testing purposes though.

Originally posted by ID10T I've came back and played for about a month now as well. How long to get 42? I'd say if you play about 6-8 hours a day and have a good or constant group( meaning no one leaves the group early or whatever) It could take about 3 weeks minimum. The only sad part is from level 1-25 it can be very hard sometimes to find a group because majority of the people are on the higher end content now. It also depends on your class, but you can get to level 20 pretty quick soloing anyway. Mounts can be bought at level 10 20 30 40 50, there are 2 quests the unicorn and shadowhound mount which is insanely long and tedious but somewhat worthwhile, they have the speed of a level 30 mount. IMO every class can solo some just have a longer downtime than others for example the warrior and rogue class have limited abilities to solo well where as the sorceror have great AE spells that kills quite fast (as long if u can stay alive that is) I play a dreadknight and I can solo 4-6 mobs all at once (2-3 levels below me with 3 dot -usually above average- difficulty) or can take up to 3 mobs 2 levels above me with 3 dot difficulty. I've taken TONS of screenshots, but dont know any websites where I can upload em on to link em for you guys. But if you do play the game you NEED to check out Vi'rak Lair, those salamanders look real as hell. Just awesome, also I like the Wailing Valkyries in graystone dungeon. If you seen them you'd be amazed as well. |

Yep, no mounts at lvl 50. But i think that the flying deer may still be in game lol. I havent thought about the GFX in VG since August or something. The bugs everyone is outlining has no impact on gameplay (for the most part). Sure you need a gaming system to play it but I wouldn't even play WoW without one. VG is a sick game that just recently added raiding to its content. Only problem is that there is a very low world population, so get in game and see what you can do to help! Really? i think that is jumping the gun just a little bit :) Why would they close the game at this time now it's improving and the population is growing? dont misunderstand me friend, i am not trying to talk you into liking the game at all. Thats your choice, but i dont think they are going to close the game because some people dont like it when it's clear they still have enough subs to be making a small profit. |

Originally posted by shukes33 With well over 30million dollars involved in this game it will be a Looooooooong time before ever see a profit on this game. Consider 50k subs at 15 a month will take 3 years before they even get close to breaking even on intial investment... That doesn't account for server maintenance or additional programmer time devoted to trying to keep it floating long enough that they don't lose 10's of millions on it. Profit is still another 3years off unless they get into the hundreds of thousands of subs.

I doubt Sony has anywhere close to 30 million wrapped up in this game. Most likely they bought Sigils assest for pennies on the dollar, plus however many millions they invested over the last year+ they kept Sigil afloat. I would guess less than 15 million, but thats is just pure speculation. |

I don't think SOE were the one that put 30 million into Vanguard are they? All they have to recover is whatever the cost was when they acquired Sigil. I don't remember seeing what that cost was if anyone knows. |
