Well, based off this thread, I started playing Fury.

I have to say, this was one of the more difficult games to get.  The download kept going away, then I couldn't get on the site to get a key.  The game required me to change some services (couldn't do it automatically).  But finally got in game. . .

First, I have a decent computer.  I play Crysis on Med/High settings. (3.0 GHZ Core Duo, 8800 GTX, 4gb Ram, X-Fi).  This game puts more strain on my system (DX 10 most settings on Medish) than Crysis or LotRO, and does not look nearly as pretty.  Lag was also a slight issue, but I am changing ISPs this weekend (not only game having problems).

So, game needs some polish, has a ways to go for optimizations is an understatement.

I had a lot of fun playing though.  And I loved the skill system.  I'll have to do a writeup later on about that, as I have not heard anyone describe it the way it is.

So, I decided to buy it, that and the immortal for life thing going on right now.  And run into more problems getting through the web sites!!  But I have upgraded now, and am enjoying this game.  I don't think I would have paid $50 for it, but $20 or even $30 seems to be about right.  Thanks OP.

  Welcome.

Sure the game needs more optimisation and code tweaking, I'm not saying its not at fault but heres a couple of tips for you in the meantime.

First off, sounds like you're running a version of VIsta (4Gb Ram & Dx10 was the clue). Whilst it will run, it does actually run poorer than in XP due to the Vista system resources drain. But it will run as you have noticed.

One thing tho, I wouldn't reccommend running the game in Dx10 just yet. For me, the gain in visuals (debatable) is not worth the extra system lag. Dx9 looks cool enough tbh.

You can switch to a Dx9 version via the options menu interface.

Due to the games competitive nature (lag=death), you really want to optimise your setup as much as possible to get the most enjoyment out of it.

I actually went from a indoor locked wi-fi connection to a solid direct LAN connection to improve my connectivity.

Shut down any programs likely to interfere or hog valuable resources in the background.

Turn off the Bloom effects when fighting if you are still experiencing lag.

Hope some of this helps.

maddbomber83,

Yeah I gave a very brief and skimpy review on the skill system mainly because it is complicated enough to merit a post unto itself.  The guide A55A5IN has linked as well as the fury wiki at (http://fury.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) gives you the basic information.

I plan on doing a full blown skill guide once I try out a few more builds and gain some more insight.  (I hate writing one-sided guides ;p)

Sidfu,

You are right.  You can acquire multiple speed buffs via abilities and equipment in the game as well as a map buff, which added together means you become Deion Sanders on crack.  Yet as Zaltar mentioned their are multiple abilities to deal with this, namely Blitz (Charges a target), Ensnare (Roots the target, but breaks on damage) and Dragnet (Pulls the target towards you and slows movement speed).  However one of the core concepts for this game I feel is the 'eye for an eye' ability matching system.  For every way you can buff your movement their is also a way to debuff it.

The speed builds you talk about are 'Flavor of the month' at the moment because most of the new player base haven't adjusted to using  Water (snare heavy) builds when they choose stereotypical dps incarnations.  Overlords for example (my current favorite) have an entire set of melee snare attacks which will stack with the snare effects from dragnet and the like.  Most people never use these abilities because they would rather see big numbers and as such they pay for their mistake by never hitting their opponent.

Also another thing to consider about speed builds is the damage modifier in the game based on speed.  Something most new players don't realize until they either see it for themselves or experienced players tell them, is that if you are attacked by someone in melee when you are moving at a faster speed, you will actually take more damage then if you were standing still.

Their is a multiplier for this but I am unsure of the numbers as of yet.  But consider that the person who is moving at 90% speed, if headed off and smacked in the face, will take significantly more damage due to his speed boosts.  Which means that by knowing the map well, anticipating his movement and charging the mofo with a big damage attack coming from the opposite direction, you are likely to cause him tears of unfathomable sadness.

I was gonna link the movement damage bonus multiplier chart, but the source seems to have moved so I can't atm.

(mental note: link in Newcomers guide is broken)

Yes, newcomers often make the mistake of thiinking kiting at high speed = iwin until they start getting 2 shotted by heavy damage hitters.

There was a point at release when the speed situation was a lot worse because the preorder armor had 7 x +%x movement bonus (7 pieces of armor each with a +speed bonus) which stacked! 0o

This has been changed (no longer stacks).

This in combination with powerful -1 charge abilities like Swashbucklers slice (Destroyer /  Nature charges) also added a speed bonus on each hit. Plus on top of that rank 10 Accelerate (rank 10 = perma Accelerate) and you have a goddam speedfreak breakout on your hands.

As Lumox pointed out tho, lots of counters available. If someone is relying on speed, then they are vulnerable to melee attacks and slows/snares.

great post but u forgot to mention the one thing really skill wise that needs hard twinking and that speed. right now as far as i know there isnt a speed cap and roots dont last long enough and also people becoem resistant to them. so u see some games peole go +80-90% speed and with just regular accelrate u never catch them and they kill u easy

As you progress in the game you will learn that there are skills that can slow runners up to 35% , you can use Dragnet and pull them to you  as they try and escape ,  Raid will rush you to them and hit them creating slowing , theres lull ,sleep , stunn ,freeze and many others. Everything in this game can be countered and recountered and countered again with a  vast amount of variables . It really takes time to figure out how to counter the next trick someone has up their sleeve .  Just when I figure out how to deal with skills that keep you from healing I have to turn around and deal with some form of charge manipulation or ground effect . Keep at it and you will discover many things to add to your arsenol . I know what you mean , I spend 75 % of my time dealing with runners  and they allways go for the HP power ups which I find annoying .

with the patch on 11th speed people will start to cry that their armor cant save them now so will be better.

and ive tried all that dragnet has terrain issues right now and the speed debuffs normaly dont last long enough for u to catch them.

only reason im ragging on speed peopel is cause i like to versitle my builds in diffent ways with diffent skills gets boring tohave tohave dragnet/reaver/ any speed debuff on any build but for healer

I guess the hardest part of the game (which also is the coolest) is to find the right balance with ones abilitlies. There is always a counter measure out there for something. Equip points drive me insane, but its a great way to balance abilities and gear. The set of abilities differ from playing a 1v1 battle, to 4v4, to vortex, one has to equip the right skills, especially when you are in a group. Some of the best groups out there are clans that are organized skill wise. I'm so glad I don't have to wait 10 levels to get a new skill to try out, they are all at my disposal once they are unlocked.

Listing MMOs/Chars/Lvls does not make your post any more relevant. It just adds more crap to ignore.

Im giving the game a go, quite enjoying it. Although im not convinced I should hand over my cash for it.
