Okay, so a few hours ago I was here and was an elite member.  Took a break and return and I am a Novice (Single star rating?) Yeah uhm, Not that the user rating has any major impact on much, but some users won't share information or share Beta keys with people who are low ranking.  I have done nothing wrong.  So why have I been stripped of my rank entirely?  Took far more than over night to build it to what it was.  This more of the unfair practice of late?

What are these ratings based off of? I see people with hundreds of posts and novice or 2 star rank, and then I have 30 posts with hardcore status...is this admin judged? or how is this rated?

Not that it means much difference, was just curious on the interface of the forums.

Excellent questions that I've often wondered about myself.

Found the Answer to my question.  Should of looked harder I suppose.

Ranks are calculated every day at 2:00AM EST.  They are only based on the last 30 days of data.  We look at the following factors when determining your rank:

  • How many days you visited the site (and logged in).  This is also counted when you use our "autologin" feature.
  • How much information you have posted in our forums (not the amount of posts)
  • The quality of your posts.  If you post lot of "filler" posts that only consist of a few words this will cost you rank points.
  • Any posts of yours that had to be deleted will cost you 5 rank points (there are only 100 total).  To prevent your posts from being deleted, please obey our Rules of Conduct.

I like this system by the way.  It incorporates everything that defines a great member.  Keep up the good work mmorpg.com staff!

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

The system is partially flawed in that it penalizes short posts. This is not necessarily indicative of a poor post, as answering a question often only takes a few sentences, especially if one is concise.

For example, if someone asks, "Where does <insert weapon> drop?" and you reply, "It drops in <insert location> off of <insert monster>" and provide a link, you have answered well, but have only written a small amount.

At any rate, I suppose the rating does not matter - I do not even bother looking at how many stars one has. Still, I must contest the fairness of the system as it seems absurdly simplistic and amazingly shortsighted.

That's where titles come in.  If you see a really helpful post like that, feel free to email me at community@mmorpg.com.  I'll look into adding a "Report" catagory for exceptional posts, too, so we can reward those users!
