This game seems to have so many simalarities to anime that while I was watching the trailer, I couldn't help but throw in my own silly dialogue to the actions in the trailer lol. I don't know if this game will have a big smash hit in america, because I personally am not an anime fan (I had to spell check the word anime). But the idea looked pretty cool, even though the wings are kinda weak... Looks nice, if that is actually how it looks in game, and if a computer can run it, they may have something going there. I personally will NOT play it though, since it just doesn't have an appealing story to me, but to each their own. Elite poster by 82 |

The basics of Anime are drawings with the minimum ammount of lines possible, cheap and easy to produce in masses, thus why Japan's comic market is so filled with mangas and why there, the style is such a hit. There are some more complex concepts like the number of circles used for the body proportions and for the head being different than the typicall DC comics style, but I guess this isn't the place. People tend to confuse anime style with oriental style, and in Aion, most of the ornaments used, and some of the available avatars look oriental indeed, this wouldn't be called anime style tho, cause the designs are way more complex. Anyways, the concept of asian graphics it's getting blurry on mmorpg communities, if you take a granado espada character and compare it to a real life model, you'll see that the proportions are way more accurate than a wow or even Age of Conan ones, face and body wise, so are we starting to confuse realistic with asian? It's obvious that atm, asian market has brought the best graphics to the mmorpg scene, so that's why I wonder. Btw, I love this issue since i'm professional designer, and i've been pretty inspired by the manga style/learned its basics, so I could keep writting hehe, but I guess it's time to stop. |

I would say, you know quite a bit more about this subject than I do, that's for sure. It's quite possible that I mis-spoke in the labeling this game as anime, but to me, it resembles the "popular" anime I have seen on cartoon network, regardless of the style. It very closely resembles DBZ in the energy balls and flying-jerky combat. It resembles Final fantasy in the large swords and the modern/yet gunless world. That's all that I'm trying to say, but I lack the in depth knowledge of the subject to call it anything but just anime. Like I said, I didn't even know that anime was spelling it right at first. It's ok, i think the correct term to define this kind of art direction would be a realistic inter-temporal fantasy with asian traditional touch, as you point out, technologies seem advanced with no guns, thus why the inter-temporal, fireballs belong more to the fantasy genre, and asian traditional ornaments for the armors and buildings, while the architecture belongs to fantasy, the decoration of buildings and some tribal armor details looks inspired in japanese castles and drawings of the samurai's age. Im not pretty good labeling, but thats as close as I could get. Oh, also, i'd add victorian style for clothing, which is usually used by animes, but originally belongs to european culture. |

Question, if you're not interested in playing the game why post? Is it because the graphic style compelled you that much? As a small note, 'asian' anime style is directly derived from very early american cartoons, thing Betty Boop and her huge head and eyes ect.. Nowadays Asia seems to have mastered it and that's why people tend to think that's where it's from, also I've noticed Europe and especially France has developed a keen interest in anime style or so it seems from their comics and art style. If you go look at Ryzom's concept art you'll notice anime similarities. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |

I'd say that's rather evident... Not sure where you are going with this topic exactly. If you are trying to say that anime isn't popular enough in America to garner interest in this title, I'd suggest looking at Guild Wars. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |

I voted no. In my experience, all animes I have watched were incredibly dull and somewhat childish (Naruto, One Piece etc.), however there is one that I enjoyed immensely called Tenjou Tenge. It had a mature rating on it, and I really liked how the characters were allowed to say anything, and the violence was insane. Unlike other Animes such as Dragonball Z where a person gets punched a million times in the face and they suffer from a minor nosebleed. It's too bad Tenjou Tenge got cancelled. I voted No because I hate the majority of them. |

Hmm... Well I've beta tested many Asian games and to me Aion's style doesn't differ from other Asian 3D MMOS I've played. As for Aion future sells... I didn't search for statistics, but if Linage 1&2 sold good in North America, I'm pretty sure Aion will sell at least as good. To be honest I'm pretty hyped about this game. Not because of other people or their influence, it's because the game has many features I liked from other MMOs and generally that I like. Race versus race versus race that I liked in RFO, fantasy world (if I want real world, I can just walk outside), many quests to make classic grind to take less time, new features like flying as I never played a MMO with free flying, random "mid-boss" appearance is a groundbreaking feature in MMO and ofc the graphics! If you're not too familiar with Asian MMOs, you should know that they tend to make their GFX engine so that even a low-grade PC could run the game, it's because of the Internet Cafés that are so popular out there. As for your poll, it's hard to answer it if it's just "Yes or No", even if it's a simple question. For example if you'd ask me if I'd rather choose a good anime, a good cartoon or a good movie to watch, I'd choose the movie, but if you'd examine my collection, you'd find more anime than movies there.
Cheers. |

Originally posted by N1ghtsta1kerTenjo Tenge is really a love/hate type animu. Some poeple hate it for the prolonged flashback that takes up an entire half of the show, while other people (like you and me) love it for its flaws. The guy who penned the source material for TT goes by the nickname Oh!Great and also penned Air Gear, which isn't nearly as violent, but it may interest you nonetheless (it got low ratings from critics and also was cut short). The source material for both series is manga, which you can find in your local bookstore. The manga is quite a bit better than the anime, if I do say so myself.
Alright, all done derailing this topic. You guys can continue to talk about AION now. |

I'm not saying anything about this game in a good or bad sense, I'm just wondering if it will have a concentrated anime fanbase. I have a feeling there are a lot of people that will like this game, who also like anime, as well as just general gamers and the foriegn market. I have not seen enough of the game to draw my own opinions as to it's quality beyond the graphics, which are impressive (if a pc can run it properly). Elite poster by 82 |

I love anime but..i'll be honest i have absolutely no interest in Asian MMO games...while I love Final Fantasy and other Japanese RPG games...Korean / Asian made MMOs..usually blow atleast in my opinion.
Games like Aion have their fan base but...I wouldn't label them Anime Fans..or Otaku's..at all. Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED! |

At least half of the Asian MMO "haters" will participate in Aion's OB, if not for something else, at least because of graphics and at least half of those testers will stay as subscribers after release (or wait for private servers, heh). Cheers. |

I don't see how the characters are in any way based on Anime. Ragnarok Online,Trickster Online and Lunia, those are games that are clearly influenced by Anime, but Aion? Not really. |
