After the giant titanic that was VG. I will never buy an MMO sight unseen again period. So I will wait till the trial happens or just play WAR when it hits. I trust Mythic, Funcom not so much

No open beta does not nessecerly need to be pulled into a dooms day message or whatever. There can be loads of reasons for it and just like all the other people around, i would like to know what those reasons are. But at the moment im still looking very postive at it because nothing has been confirmed yet, and evry single thing ive seen since i started following this game looked good to me. When more people get invited into the beta expect to see some NDA breaches(as we get close to release none will care for getting banned on it) and allot more info, so just sit still and make your conlusion later, but not now.

I understand that people have principles but lets be honnest what is 50 dollars/euros ? Yes,nothing, i think most of us buy like 2 games a month anyway. It is the only game together with WAR that even remotely has a chance to atract people who are bored with all the other crap MMO's on the market right now.

People are always talking about vanguard here vanguard there and AoC possibly pulling a vanguard, i mean what the fuck ? I never bought the game because i knew from the start it was EQ2 with the same engine and same crap company behind it. Lets take a look at what floored the recent semi decent released MMORPG's. LOTRO: not enough endgame content and not refreshing enough. Tabula Rasa: Not enough content and just not deep enough. Vanguard: clearly a total fail backed by quess who SOE (POTBS lol).

So looking at the total thing, AoC looks allot better and promising to me, it will be the first new MMORPG i buy since i left WoW so i i have no trauma feelings after all those other weak ones. Like i said its the first one before WAR to even remotely give a try(some people just buy evry mmo without thinking).

I don't see how the two companies are really all that different, aside from the fact that Funcom has released three times as many titles (3 releases to-date, vs. Mythic's 1).

It does seem strange to me,I see a few people backing AoC saying that there could be many reasons why they dont want to have an OB,If they are sincere then why not say when they announce no OB?

Maybe there is another reason but with a few AAA+ MMO`s due around the sametime(a couple of months later or just before AoC)If there game is in a finished state then they could only attract player`s not lose them.

Also someone posting that non MMO players then play the game and post how bad it is could be 1 of the reasons why they are not having an OB is just lol material,There would be a hell of alot more MMO players trying it out and people could easily detect a BSer.

i just for the life of me cant see what they would have to lose with an OB if there game is ready..

I'm going to be buying the game, but I'm really unhappy with Funcom right now.
My only conclusion I can draw from the lack of OB is that the game is really buggy and it's not ready for the scrutiny of the masses.

If the game were polished, Funcom would have an open beta just from a marketing perspective.

Well after having tested AO long ago, I don't see myself buying this game without a chance to see it for myself in a beta or a trial. If they don't think they can handle a few 100k in open beta, I sort of doubt they be ready for the big influx of people on release.

After the giant Titanic that was Master of Orion 3 I'll never buy ANY game sight unseen again.  That was the crap release that finally broke my heart and smartened me up. The funny thing that applies here? We all went "uh oh..." when they didn't release a demo.

"Open Betas" just before release are advertising and stress testing. Maybe Funcom has enough people to stress test with in closed, but they are still cutting off a way to advertise. People go to MMOs looking to make a big investment, game-wise, in terms of money laid out up front and time spent playing the game.

If you're putting out an MMO hoping to keep people for 6 months to a year, you need to give them a free taste. The only way this won't hurt Funcom is if the game is omg awesome and when the NDA lifts everyone is raving about it. Barring that, their launch sales will suffer without an open beta/trial.

Oh well, i was hoping for an open beta to try it, but with no open beta i will wait until teh gamers tell us how the game is going.

DAoC for the most part had one of the most flawless launches of any MMO period. I am not alone by a long shot in that opinion. Funcom...just fucking wow on the AO release. AO release made babies in heaven weep the cry of a 1000 lost souls.
