Yep, whereas Dark Age of Camelot was a flawless release. Mythic turned on the servers and everything simply worked, from day 1. The only comparable release I can think of is Lord of the Rings Online, which was also great. Already in the gameplay videos from AoC (and I am not talking about the heavily edited ones with voiceovers and such) there are some performance issues. Lots of skating (the players move but are stuck in a position) is a big one, and usually is a sign of latency. It reminds me of WoW at release, when after looting something you would stay in a loot position but could move around until the server either caught up or booted you off. The thing I wonder about is how well a combat system that relies so many key presses to swing your weapon and make combos will pan out in large PvP fights - I see latency being a large issue. When you make a system that relies on very fast feedback and timing, lag will kill. At any rate, we will know in March - I am rather excited, even though I will not be playing, because a major MMORPG release is always interesting to watch. |

Unless I misunderstood something. Mythic has said you can obtain the best gear through PvP or PvE. |

Originally posted by xaldraxiusYour assessment on AoC is correct. But you show nothing but ignorance in your statement about WAR. If you have been following WAR you would know that the game is not based on gear, well not to the nature you have described. This would of been a fair assessment of WoW, but you clearly haven't read or followed much of WAR. They are strikingly similary, but they are also profoundly different. Anyways, I think WAR has a better $ backing and will have a nice, clean polished release. I think AoC is still up in the air because of recently seen combat problems. By not being in beta one would have a difficult time fully understanding the combat arguments currently going on in AoC and for this reason most people will just have to wait and see. But I can already guarentee that the combat system is going to be a love-hate system. Just be ready for something new, but not necessarily better. |

I agree with Stellos, go watch some WAR videos and learn about the game before you trash-talk. On the other hand, I dont know anything about AoC except for the M rating and the funny avatar someone on the forums has with Conan O' Brien. I watched a video for it and it looks like a decent MMO for hack n slash gore lovers (yummy). Anyway..... both games will do well. |

I think there is a good exchange going on these forums, and to clarify! I POSTED THIS SAME POST ON THE AOC FORUMS, so this poll may be skewed, but I will average the 2 together and post the final results. I feel as though I am in neutral ground, because I have a lot of respect for both companies, and for both titles, and I think they will both be successful, but the question remains... due to their close release date, which one is worth buying? So far, the only tabulated results show that these 2 titles will be in direct fiscal competition, and that AOC will win by a slight margin. This of course rules out any game-changing bugs or issues that befell Vanguard, and ran it straight into the ground (which I have a few posts running about this and SOE). Either way, I feel as though this year is going to be a very ineresting year in the mmo industry with these 2 great games dueling it out for my, and everyone elses money. Who will I choose? we'll have to wait til beta. Elite poster by 82 |

Other ftw. Once Blizzard announces Diablo Online or Starcraft Universe its game over. Once Arenanet shows off GW2 and people realize the pvp will be 10x better with no monthly fee its game over. Once Bioware announces it's mmo and if by any chance its Kotor its pwnage time. AOC and WAR aren't offering anything new to people who like mmo games. I am sure they will be fun games to play for awhile because they are new but I don't see either game being a tremendous success in 2008. I really hope I am wrong but sorry 2009 seems more promising from proven developers. |

The OP is a tool. WoW has survived as long as it has simply because people have nothing better to do. Once a well made MMO comes along, after this horrible string of flops, WoW will lose the majority of it's base. Age of Conan isn't that game, although it will be a nice diversion. WAR could be that game but I've learned to not count my chickens so quickly after several lackluster releases that pumped my hopes up prematurely. Anyone who is an MMO enthusiast will be waiting by my side with bated breath for the next big game regardless of who releases it... |

Good thing your opinion doesn't generally reflect reality.
Ultimately it comes down to the fact that Mythic makes a great game and now they have a fantastic, well known IP that will launch their game into the stratosphere.
The other games you mention might be somewhat interesting, but will likely lose their appeal as the gloss rubs off the shiny new toy.
WAR will very likely have staying power with the excellently built and well thought out basic structure. With the possibility of releasing new races as time goes on, the game really has nothing to fear from any other game that might be coming out soon.
In fact I think the only game that really needs to fear a new MMO coming out would be WoW. |

Originally posted by SaintViktor Diablo Online mmorpg could be really nice and I would look forward for that, if they can pull it off. Guild Wars 2 will be major sucess on the Asia market, same with the European/US. Warhammer Online is the next big hit. But please, a other Star Wars mmorpg?. Haha, that would be waste of money. There have been made countless Star Wars game and its only diehard fans there played them. Just take a look on SWG. AoC, dunno - but I think they might flop a couple of month after release.

i would say warhammer will be more successfull then AoC, even though im looking more forward to AoC than WAR. the reason WAR will be more successfull is that it will be more easy to get into, like wow. AoC seems alot more ''difficult'' to start with as a totally newcomer to MMO's as an example. warhammers combat and movement will be more to the wow side than AoC. But honestly, i don't really care about how many people will play it, or such things. i only want the game to be good enough to play. ill try both games when they are out. but i will definetly play AoC. since i already have a great guild and alot of friends whom are going to play it too. |

WAR gets my vote simply because it doesn't have the extreme expectations that AoC has. WAR does to some extent have very high expectations but it doesn't rely on such many different factors as AoC does. |

The people that voted for AoC over WAR are the same people that bought Mass Effect and Farenheight (sp?) because they heard there were sex scenes in them. ______________________________ WAR is coming. Look busy. |
