MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

So, as with all players who do NOT have a beta key, I begin to be concerned about my odds. At last look there are 513,638 applicants. I remembered my application and it made me wonder. You had to fill in three 1000 character essays. What does it take to actually review this portion of the application.

A few assumptions
Each application is an individual player, not duplicates
Each applicant filled out all 3 essays
Each essay used at least 750 characters of the 1000 max.
The applications were English.

So, that means each applicant types in 2250 characters. Researching on the net shows that The average length of an English word is five characters (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/secnews/articles/itproviewpoint100504.mspx). Using that approximation that means each applicant types out 450 words.

The average reading speed for average readers is  around 200 wpm with a typical comprehension of 60% (http://www.readingsoft.com/). We will assume that Mythic employees are typical readers and comprehended 100% of what we wrote and did not have to read it twice. So for each application it would take 2.25 minutes to review.

If you assume that Mythic employed 20 people working 40 hours a week just  to review all the applications and do nothing else. Each at 2.25 minutes per application. I would take 6.01 months to read them all.

What I gained from this exercise..
  1. I need to find something else to do with my time
  2. Don’t hold my breath.

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

There is no way they review them all. My guess is that they first select a group based on their associations (contest winners, event participants) and their DXDiag file. Then, maybe, they read the information of the people in that group and further whittle it down to the people they actually invite.

Chances are, our applications were not read at all. It is simply not logical for them to sit there and read each and every one, order them, and then go down the ordered list and invite.

I wonder whats the most important aspect they are looking for in the DXDiag file. Oporating system, graphics card, memory, processor?

Heh, I suppose you could also just grab some other computers DXDiag file and make it look like your runnig the best

I think they just run a scan through DXdiag and choose those who is better in all aspects of their set requirements.
