First off I'm not writing this post to ruin the experience of anyone that currently plays this game and I'm not a bitter anti-SOE goon spouting diatribes whenever possible. I am writing this now because I found myself thinking of SWG...or at least how it used to be, and found that I felt a profound sense of loss strangely enough. If anything this post is intended to talk with the initial launch veterans about how the game was before it's direction and focus were lost in a foggy haze of confusion. This will be a long one...
Skill based character creation was amazing. So many different combinations were possible. I was a Bounty Hunter/Creature Handler. I saved for weeks and found a very shy armorsmith that could make epic composite armor. In addition to that I scrounged some krayt tissue for a scatter pistol and lightning rifle. I was a demon. I was training a Graul right before they capped off non-primary CH's pets. My friends and I would suit up in our storm trooper armor and go harass rebels on tatooine. When I wanted some downtime I would spend hours hunting down the best spots to drop harvesters on. There were a few times that I found a rare mineral or gas and I felt like I had literally struck gold. No game before or since this has managed to conjure up these feelings for me. I came back recently to see how my once beloved game was fairing and found a painfully hollow husk of a once fabulous product. It's sad to see those elements that made this game so fantastic diluted or even completely gutted from whats on the live servers now. Cheers to what was once a magnificently unique and fathoms-deep gaming experience. |

Well said. The current game is a bad joke upon Star Wars fans. |

It is sad when a game like that is changed. I felt the same way about DAOC prior to ToA. Thankfully Mythic has allowed me to go back to what I remember by providing "classic" servers. ...perhaps someday SWG Torrential |

You know there's an entire board for this sort of thing, right, and its not this one?
My mistake - looks like I wondered into the wrong board by mistake |

You Can get more done with a kind word and a gun than with just a kind word. |

Very well said my friend.
I have many screenshots of those days, and every time I get a new pda or phone I download them. Occasionally I'll flip through them and I am reminded of my best gaming moments. Really the lives of each of my three avatars was like a mininovel. I miss them.
I miss my friends, my guild, my guildmates, my city, my fellow imperials, and the rebels. I miss my house and I miss my little terrier looking dog, Lucky, who thought he was a big dog and too many times went chasing after krayts and nearly getting me killed. I'm not really sure what was wrong with him. Maybe he was bugged. But it was funny as hell. Me and a group of friends would be standing around talking and all of the sudden he would see a krayt and bolt from our group. People would say, dude, your dog is bugged. To which I would reply, that's not my dog....he just follows me around.

Originally posted by TerranahLol. I remember when a cat got stuck in the walls of Coronet spaceport. People would be asking who had left their pet, commiserate with the poor beasty, watch it's gradual progression (it moved, slowly)... It was there for months. Definitely bugged, but in a fun way...
