3 days (real life) was just not enough. People have lives and in those three days I was able to play maybe 2 hours. Not enough time for me make a decision on buying the game. Perhaps trials that offer actual game time could be offered? "10 hours free trial" Just a thought... |

Its horses for courses really. Id say I only played a total of 10 hours in late Beta but I regretted the last 8 of it..... so 2 is probably enough believe me.... I actually think the game may have some minor potential if it survives the first 9-12 months. But they have an enourmous amount of work to do in almost every major area you would like to name. Work that clearly should have been done pre-release. But NC Soft is schooled enough in the trade now to know your bait doesnt need to actually be a worm.... its only got to look a bit like one and enough fish will still hit your hook to feed the family.

Agree with the OP. 3 days real time for me wasn't enough. I managed to get in a few hours but still don't feel I had enough time to make a decision on it.

It took me two hours of playing this game to decide to delete it.
In my opinion, it's the worst MMO I've ever played.. even close to auto assault. |

There is a very good reason that the free trial is only 3 days. Most people find the game pretty fun at first, but after you get much past lvl 20 you figure out that there is no real point to the game. You realise you are just going to move from one area to another doing the exact same thing with no real content when your done with the grind. If they gave people a 10 day trial they would have no real reason to buy the game. |

I suspected as much... (that more time might lead to boredom). There is something very cathartic about beating the crap out of something, and thats why I always end up devoting most of my play time towards melee based characters. I found shooting things strangely dissatisfying. The 3 day trial left me with more questions then what I had started out with. |

Originally posted by ValiumSummer Well I dont think it is shooting per se that is disatisfying it is the way shooting is handeled in this game that is totally disatisfying. In the first noob shooting tutorial I happened to be standing at about 75°-90° from the target when I first fired and hit it dead on.... i was like ??? Then I realised that even I had swallowed the hype about the mechancis of this game. The shooting model is no different in any way to the combat mechanics of any standard MMO. Hell even in DAOC they fixed it so you couldnt fire arrows through solid objects eventually, but they never fixed the arrows following you round corners and there is a good reason for that. The mechanics wont allow it. If the target is in view when you fire it doesnt matter if they catch a train to Timbuktu before the arrow gets there, its gonna get a roll to hit. Same is true in TR and it completely ruins what could have been a very exciting game. If they would have just had the balls or the skill to put in a proper FPS, I would very probably be playing it. But they took the easy road on everything, even the Logos, which Starr Long recently admitted on this very website, were completely half baked as a system. I have said it before I will say it again. Take the BF2 combat model and apply it to your MMO and you will have a mega hit. Any day now someone is gonna wake up. But it wont be this game. +-+-+-+-+-+ |

Seriously, it's not TR's fault that you chose not to use your time given to you for FREE as wisely as you should have. Get another free trial if you really want to try it out.
OP, if you want to listen to all the negative trolls here, that's you call, but seriously...go to planetTR or Stratics first and get some adult opinions. FYI..there are 2 melee classes in game and if hitting baddies on the head at close range sounds fun...spies and my favorite..guardians do all that very well. anyway, there are bugs and problems.....its early in the game life. None of them make the game unplayable....and as for it having no replayablility....I HATE, absolutely hate grinding alts in any MMO, but recently went in and worked an alt up in TR and actually had a blast doing. Sure I knew where the quests were, but classes do not play the same and skills add different stratgies to the game.
fanboi? not hardly. There are things I disagree with and I know things need to be fixed, but they have taken steps to do that repeatedly and have shown they are very capable of making the changes needed to make this game even better. It is a fun game if you want to have fun. If you play it with an attitude that you aren'y going to like it..then yeah, its going to suck..but that is the way anything works in life. |

Originally posted by kjfett I don't in three days, have the time to devote to games I know I like. Let alone a trial. My original post was not intended to express disappointment in the game, rather the time given to try the game. It is SOMEBODY'S decision to make it a 3 day trial, but it wasn't mine. 14 days... why not? Hell give me a week at least, but 3 days? If you play 2 hours a day for 14 days thats 24 hours... how bout a 24 hour game time trial? What do I have to do to get another 3 day trial? Create another mmorpg account? Prediction: They will eventually offer a 14 day trial. Then I promise I'll give it another try. I promise you this, I will NEVER buy a game again before I get to try it for FREE. Vangaurd taught me THAT lesson. Too many of these games lately have been chop jobs. I WANT TO TEST DRIVE MY RIDE.

I'm with you OP. I have my trial key, but I haven't activated it yet because well, I would like to get in as much play time as possible and during the week, that's not going to happen. With Christmas around the corner, I have in-laws coming in town to stay with us for a couple of days and then Christmas is up. Maybe right after Christmas I'll have a few days to jump in and see what TR is all about. As for the negative posts here regarding the game, I think you haters are derailing the topic. The OP was just complaining about the trial and the fact that he didn't really get to experience the game because in a period of three days, he didn't have enough blocks of time to really try out the game. Get over your hate. Move along. //|//|// |

well, i think they understand some people are sick like me and will play 15-20 hours in those 3 days.. given 2 weeks, i could probably do some real damage to my health and the game. edit: not that i would buy it, can't stand folks that do. |

I'm kinda shocked at the interest this game receives. Told as a high speed blend of FPS and RPG it has little of either. Lack of depth (In my 3 day trial) and the whole locking on a target which is far from the twitch base of a FPS so not exactly the FPS meets RPG as promised. I'll play something else. |

Thats great that there is a setting to make it more twitch base, it really is. But it takes away from a FPS unless everyone has to use that style. While it may be more fun for me, someone with little FPS skill could blow me away by using the targeting method... I suppose i'll give it another shot with the twitch option on and just play PVE. |

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |

Originally posted by RazorbackThis is so true. TR is just looking to turn a profit IMO, not become the #1 MMO available. I feel this type of philosophy is more and more common in MMOs today because people realize that people will play ANYTHING. There are so many people out there and people who don't manage their own finances or don't care enough about their own finances that they will play games regardless of quality. Now I don't mean this to say that TR is crap, because it isn't. It has potential, but I don't feel like they were gunning to take down the almighty WoW either. Hey, if your happy with just putting an avg-above avg game out there and making some cash I have no problem with it. But if you don't want to spend your time taking care of all the problems before release don't expect me to pay per month to play. /putting on flame suit now |

i dont know the lingo i guess, but what exactly is twitch based? i gather it has something to do with targetting? i dont auto target anything, i use the reticle and mouse to target and fire.. sometimes i miss, usually i hit. i think maybe you are referring to auto targeting using the tab key? if so, well, thats just cheating! edit: oh, and yes dream. they are supposed to come out with new content periodically. look on some other forums devoted to TR. youll actually get game info and positive comments. this forum has a lot of game flame on it. but, i guess that's why we have forums. |
