Your simplistic summary of TR combat is incorrect. Go back to VG or WoW or whatever it is you play and live your life in peace and leave us to be in peace as well. |

Originally posted by Vanguarde Why are you clicking your mouse anyways? Just hold the button down if your using anytype of weapon, it works alot better. And if you keep pressing the button 4,000,000 times to kill 1 Bane, you must have a POS weapon. Too bad you just dont get TR, but it is a mmorpg, this is where you are wrong. |

Perhaps they were banking too much on the Garriot name, hoping for a sci-fi Ultima Online. I just don't think this type of MMO could take off to be a top competitor, but I'm sure they will make their $. |

Only people playing a mmorpg for exactly 2 weeks 6 days and 14 hours can say the game is bad. Everyone else is either lying, a retard, or a whiner. |

I agree with OP, after level 30, there isn't enough content, there is content but not enough. When I come to some games forum, I expect it to be helpfull for new players. Tell the truth about the game and so on. How ever, what I don't expect is that people who don't play or like the game anymore or have no intend to play it in future, are in forum bashing, trolling and telling all new commers like fuck off. There is really bad behavior from many players in this forum. If You don't like the game, You don't play the game and have no intend to play the game in future, WTF are You still doing here? Wow humanity is doomed. Ok i will try to be respectful in this post but it is incredibly hard after seeing such amazing displays of idoicy. I had a level 61 hunter in WoW, the amazing stratagy i used to get him their, i knew how to hit the 1-9 keys, until my fingers where numb or the mob was dead, and when the mob died, i moved to the next one. Rinse and repeat, 99% of WoWs quests told you to go out and hit the 1-9 keys untill X mobs where killed. Same exact thing with other games i have played such as, LOTRo, Vanguard, SWG, Lineage II, Guild Wars, Hellgate: london, Everquest II, Eve online (though this was one of the better ones), DAoC, COV/H and a few other MMOs i have played that i dont remember the names of. Every single on of them had a unique feature, i was called hitting the 1-9 keys untill a mob died, except Eve which added a little bit of verity (still was boring as anytihng though) Their was nothing more to wow then click click click, let me illustrate, To kill a mob, you clicked it, and then hit the 1-9 keys untill it died. To do a quest you Clicked on a guy and then went out and killed X mobs by doing the killing method i described above. To craft you first went out, and Clicked on stuff to mine/harvest it. then you clicked in the crafting window untill the amount of the item you needed was made. To PVP you Clicked on the other player, and then used the 1-9 keys untill he was dead To raid you went in a dungoun and killed mobs and did quests which i showed the process to above. So that pretty much sums up WoW game play, oh and grinding reputation, that is just more Clicking even worse cause its the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. and leveling to sixty required killing about 75,000 mobs even with quests, so that amounts to alot alot of Clicks. So please explain to me how WoW is not clicking.
Btw vanguard is the same exact thing if you want to use that as a example, though vanguard is my second favorite MMO i have ever played after TR.
PS. i bolded the words clicking to help you see them |

Everyone is missing the point. Of course it's all clicking and hitting buttons. That's all computers are! And on the twelfth day God created the Wii. And the medical cases of carpel tunnel decreased but shoulder injuries went up. But he saw that it was good. And the people rejoyced. No longer would they be required to ONLY click and type. Every computer game is click and type. What I'm doing right now is click and type. When I look for porn, it's click and type (albeit one handed but the you get the idea). So yeah... EVERY game, EVERY application, EVERY day at the office, it's click and type. The point is there is nothing to capture your attention or to make you think. When you were clicking the 75,000 creatures to level up, did you stop to read the story lines? Did you know WHY the NPC wanted you to click 75,000 creatures? Are you looking for the MMO or are you looking for the RPG? Do you remember the RPG days before compters? It was ALL about the story. Read the stories the game creators have written for you or you're nothing more than that chicken in Las Vegas (or is it San Francisco?) that kicks your butt at tic-tac-toe. It doesn't know it's playing a game. It's just grinding for chicken feed. P.S. click type click click type type type click type DING!... Yay.

I agree that people are pulling a fast one when they simply claim that TR is just a monotonous click-fest. As others have pointed out, all games from a complete reductionist standpoint are just really exercises in clicking - but that's the fault of the medium (i.e. computer/keyboard/mouse), not the game. However, what makes this clicking fun is the immersiveness and challenge the game provides. I'll admit that for TR it is fun when you first start. The combat is novel in that it is active, fast, and hectic. However, that being said, the novelty might wear off and the game you once saw as innovative is now a huge deathmatch server with you vs. the Bane. I played the game for some time and found it fun; it really is fun to just get in there and fire off your shotgun/pistol/rifle. Indeed, using cover is a great concept and adds some depth to the combat. However, I can't comment much past that since I haven't reached the upper-tiers of advancement. I can sympathize with the OP, however. While TR's combat is great, that's all it really has going for it as far as I've seen. People have said it before, and I'll say it now, TR really seems like a one-trick-pony. I think people who complain about the combat actually enjoy it (or at least some do), but have grown tired of it quickly because there's nothing else to do to break the sheer repetitiveness of the gameplay. Now, I wouldn't go as far to say that the game "sucks" - far from it. I've played some terrible games, and TR does not fall under that category. Perhaps it might be underwhelming or disappointing in some respects, but definitely not bad. |

I agree with Shoal, there is little to do ingame other than kill mobs after mobs in increasing numbers as you level up. The game is good don't get me wrong, just little to do than kill Bane. From level 1 to lvl 35 now and it wears VERY thin and the upper level content seems somewhat uninspited at best. For example, when you blows up a Predator or Juggernaut, it's like they were made of paper all along...no loud exposion, no concussion wave, no smoke, no stunning visual that informs you that you just did something really impressive....the result time after time is a one second pop effect with very little awe and you pick up the loot left from it and move on to the next lame target. I think that if the crafting side was a viable in the game instead of being a mess currently, it would offer something else to focus on, but for now it's just killing Bane after waves of them with no let up. Like I said, it wears very thin after a while and surely can't hold everyone's attention. I think one of the other areas that needs tweaked is the Bane shooting accuracy. From level one to level 35, they are all dead eyes and never miss a shot. Their bullets travel around corners to a certain degree. If I recall correctly, a regular lead bullet from a sniper rifle travels in a linear path and not around a corner of a tree. Same thing with an energy plasma round. When did they follow your character when he / she is bunny hopping while moving around corners? I'm sticking with the game temporarily (1-2 months) because I know it's different than the WoW cookie cutter games out there. I hope more content is added to this game in the future and that it evolves into being more enjoyable on a wider scale for the masses. Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa. |
