My personal guesstimate: Neither will ever have as many subs as WOW (by a LONG way). WAR will have more subs than AOC. ...though AOC will be a better game than WAR. |

For adults, Conan wins. Right now it isn't about reaching the same numbers as wow, it is about taking numbers and distributing what player base is already formed. |

I couldn't have said it better.
At least AoC is trying to break the MMO combat mold. It may have similar character progression and class restrictions, but at least it's not doing everything the same. WAR is not doing anything majorly new. |

I predict that at least one of the two games will bomb completely. Vanguard, DDO, Dark and Light, TR or whatever other MMOs have come out in the past couple of years and completely failed to live up to their potential, or hype if you will. I wouldn't be suprised if both these super-hyped efforts bombed. I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. But don't get me wrong; I don't want either to bomb. I love playing games, and if either game is half as fun as WoW was when that came out, I'll buy a box. I've just learned not to expect anything from MMOs these days, which means one day, when someone gets it right (cough Blizzard MMO #2, cough), I'll be pleasantly surprised. Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting... |

except for NPC sieging villages (forced pvp anyone?) i see nothing new in AoC. please dont go with the "real time combat" bullshit, its a revamped RYL 2008 style, just like the rest of the features, same old gameplay with a few innovations scattered and XXI century tech.
on the other hand,u can count with the fingers of 1 hand the games that mainly revolve around PvP, and 4 of them downright suck so...WAR its kind of a pioneer.not for everyone, thats fo sho, yet still appealing for the silent mayority that are utterly sick of PvE/Raid braindead gameplay ...now we can see life past DaoC. |

I don't care what anyone says, I am putting on a loincloth and swinging my axe at the nearest giant I can. If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list. |

As far as subs go, I'll be surprised if WAR doesn't do well. It just has that "mainstream" look to it. AoC is a tough call. I really doubt they'll ever rival WAR in sub numbers, but who knows exactly how popular the game will be if they don't f#ck up the launch. Personally, I've looked into both games at one time or another and I really couldn't stay that hyped on either one. Just looks like more of the same linear, class/level based, MMO theme park. I can't see how there will be much depth in either game. Of course, if AoC would have taken a chance and just built the game around the frontiers, then we might have something. |

I don't care which game 'wins' as long as they finally offer some competition to Blizzard and make WoW realize that uber-guild Instance content is not what people want to see. If we're really lucky those games will produce a change in Blizzard and Kaplan and Chilton will be replaced and go the same route as other First-Gen MMORPG types like McQuaid, Garriott etc. |

Originally posted by arcdevil I don't see how NPC sieging equates to forced PVP, considering it's players vs ai...but anyway. The massive PVP sieging, siege warfare, player made cities, mob ai (including town construction, roaming, building and sieging), realistic [style] graphics, adult themed, finishing moves, real time 'aiming' (eg no heat seeking arrows) complex mounted combat and PVP specific feats and levels are a few of the features I am looking forward to - and IMO are features that are either lacking, or non existent in most MMO's. ..and if they end up throwing in a FFA PVP ruleset with a form of item looting, then I may end up skipping WAR altogether Though the big question is - how well they can pull it all off. |

lol, have you played any of the 3 games listed? yes you are allowed to say if you've played warhammer.
just because warhammer is made by mythic who is the studio that made DAoC, does not by anymeans make it a "clone". the games look nothing alike, play nothing alike and besides the basic "standard" mmo concepts and features(meaning stuff every mmo shares) they are basically nothing alike.
how is wow a daoc clone? daoc had no instances. sure there were places where you had to zone into to get into such as the BG's and DF and a few minor caves, but you shared all these places with poeple who were not in your group. wow is chock full of instances.
daoc had very few quests and not much of a story line to them. wow is all quests and most of them have a story behind it. whether you think its an engaging story or not doesnt change the fact that its still a story.
daoc has siege warfare. now granted i havent played a ton of mmos(DAoc, swg, wow, tr, eve, eq2,vg, lotro are it) i dont see any seige warfare in any of them. tr comes close but not really.
I understand that warcraft(not world of warcraft per se) is based off of warhammer. so yes you can argue the origional versions of the warcraft game(table top anyone?) were clone-ish.
please, stop with all the clone this, clone that attitudes. actually have some clue as to what you're talking about before you open your mouth. |
