Fake pic or not, I don't care for the ship design.  As a Star Trek fan, I was never ga ga over the Enterprise E.

Of course, I am one that believes dipolmancy involves a phaser and a smirk.  With that, you figure out which ship I want.

This Voyager-esque design doesn't "trip my trigger".  As my ol' pappy would say, "Kinda looks like a monkey humped over a football."

Personally I don't think the image is faked, though. It looks like an object texture to me, and if they have the texture skin, why bother copying it and pasting it over a model when they could just skin it onto the 3D object. No logic to that, and though I have no love for PE, I think naming the image fake is going a bit overboard on the PE bashing..

Edit: even the Enterprise E follows the canon technology designs. Voyager had nacelles that swept up so that they could create a warp field, and even the Defiant has angled-down nacelles. Look at any ship in Star Trek canon, they all follow that principle. As far as I can remember at least. Romulan Warbirds have a big fat empty space between nacelles, Klingons have down-swept wings, Dominion ships have nacelles that sit low on winglets.. etc, etc.. ;)

I'm just responding to what my I saw, not bending over backwards to bash PE.  I agree that is very strange to doctor their first in game screenshot, but all I'm commenting on what I saw.  I'm not trying to guess as to why they did it. 

Is it possibly bloom effect that's causing it? I must admit I'm not really seeing it, but then my eyes are kinda tired..

While the ship's nacelles may be incorrect for Trek lore, we don't know if they also angle down for warp flight.

You guys are crazy though about the fake image. The 'semicircles' and other weird things are called 'artifacts'. Whenever you reduce the file size of a jpg, it reduces the quality and you get those strange dots.

Wow. An incredibly painful read that basically said, "We have this thing called the Interaction System, we think it is a cool thing and it is surely not going to be mocked as being just another pretentious rename of a thing usually called "A User Interface", or UI.  Be amazed at us as we pretend our future customers are dumber than a box of rocks."

I am just as big a trek fan as a PE hater.  I really hope someone else ends up with the IP.  I really do not expect anyone to due the IP justice that it deserves, but I would trust anyone else to deliver  more than PE.

The semi circular edges from the pasted ship is the most visible against the planet's coloring.

Someone said it looked pasted if you looked at it closely, so I did.  And I saw an dotted line edge made of many semicircles.  Look closely, as in get your face close to the screen, and you will see them, especially where the planet's color meets the ship model's edge.

ok seriously even if i WAS a huge STO and PE fan i would still say the image is fake...its just the textures and the color...looks like a really good concept art with a GUI doctored in.

Anyone think this is nothing more than an attempt to distract those from what happened in the buyout and the new owner in S.Korea?

Ive shown many in the ST community, many think the background is a screenshot from Star Trek Legacy and very cartoonist and the ship doesnt look right and if you look at the planet, asteriods there is no shadow to them even to the ship. There is jagget edges on the ship, it looks like it is copied an pasted into the backdrop even the alien bar looking thing looks pasted to the image, it doesnt look right and its Cartoonist. If this is what is expected from PE i would give up the license if this is what and where you have been working on when it comes to this game.

These guys are so out in left field, Daron is and has to of taken pointers from the former Iraqi information minister, he acts more like a spin doctor than whatever his title is.

The ships motion Blurred.  

Jeeze, I am starting to believe the doctoring bit.  If no one see's the problem I am having with it being motion blurred in that screen shot,  Explain why. =)

I am still having trouble seeing what everyone else is talking about tho.  But I don't know exactly what I am looking for either, other than some sort of circles?  Not much graphics software experiance here.

Dubious as to whether it's faked or not, but any Trek nerd will tell you (me I guess) that a warp-capable starship cannot have hull between the warp nacelles. The nacelles require empty space between them in order to properly form a warp field bubble. ;) Otherwise those poor people standing on the decks when the warp field forms will get sort of squished, vapourised, etc..

It looks to me like this game will be even MORE cartoony than WoW, if that's even possible. The alien looks like he came straight from the computer game Gazillionaire.

The starship is one of the ugliest starships I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of horrible kitbashed fan attempts. It looks out of proportion because the secondary hull is truncated, or squished together. It's like a model with really long legs, perfect breasts, and a really squat torso. Compare the refit Enterprise from the first six movies to see what I'm getting at.

I think now, more than ever, that this game will be a hideous disappointment. There are a lot of hard-core fanboys of this game (go to StarTrek-Online.NET, you can't say a single negative thing about the game or you'll get beaten down) and I think they're in for disillusionment and bitter disappointment.

Well, they'll have one consolation when ( IF ) the game is released. As they look at the failure ( of which I have not one doubt the game will be ), they will all be secure in the fact it's the POS they all asked for by way of kissing Stinnett and companys' collective backsides. Hope the game can survive off the subscriptions of 30-40 fanbois.

I have absolutely no idea of why some of you are complaining. The graphics look pretty good from where I'm standing. Stop whining!!!

And the graphics from Eve/Legacy is on the older side, very do'able for PE.

another try at MMO? how this is started it will end up in same place where Gods and Heroes ended up ....Perpetual should really stop even bothering in trying to make MMOs just sell it out to SOE where the rest of crappy MMOs end up

The image in question is a real screen from in game. I shouldn't tell anyone how to be able to tell, after all, you all think you know so much, and I find that ignorance very entertaining... but if you take the time to actually go to STO's website and see the full image (not the resized version here on MMORPG.com) you can clearly see that those "smooth and rounded edges" are in fact not so smooth and rounded, but are in fact aliased.

What's with all the hate in this thread?     Over one pic?   (which looks fine to me btw).   Gameplay is by far the most important part of any game.     Let's at least see the gameplay before we all jump on the bash wagon.   Sheesh.
