Celebrating my tenth year of online gaming...gawd I need a life...=P

I have been gaming online for over 10 years now. So I have tried all the P2P games such as UO,WoW,LotR...blah blah the list goes on. Lately however I have been checkin out the F2P games such as Dungeon Runners, SilkRoad, Sword of New World etc. And this has brought me to thinking 'Which really is better, P2P or F2P?

Now I know many will say 'Oh P2P is way better cause F2P is just grindfest games and lack content. They are all the same' But is how is WoW or LotR any different from any other grindfest game? Some questing examples would be such as..:

F2P Quest would be : Go out and kill 12 fuzzy bunnies and bring me their lucky foot and you will be rewarded with exp.,gold and an item.

P2P Quest would be : Oooo them there fuzzy bunnies they be eating all my profit! You go out there and kill 12 of 'em n I will give you some gold and this lovely rusty knife I got wedged between my butcheeks!( and unsaid as a special bonus you will receive some extra exp.)

Ok so P2P maybe has a bit more storyline to make you feel that you are doing something with a purpose and not so much a grindfest. But when it comes to gaining exp. in either game no matter how you put it, the grind is about the same basic ideas.

Character customization is very limited in F2P games. Usually when you log on everybody looks exactly the same save for a few  different armor types. But is there really a huge difference between how chars look in P2P games? I know CoH n SWG have probibly the best char customization. But aside from those two I haven't been overly impressed with the customization of characters.

Crafting perhaps? I don't know much about crafting in F2P games. However I know from my experience in P2P games crafting is almost a waste of time. Usually the top notch items in the games are loot/quest items. Not player crafted. I haven't crafted much since UO when the  stuff players made actually did matter and was usually as good as most looted stuffs. Altho on occassion a person could get a good weapon from loot.

Housing! I haven't found many F2P games that have housing as a selling point. Altho I really don't see to many of the P2P with housing straight off the start either. I know a few have em EQ2, SWG, UO, DAoC. And a few plan on puttin it in. So sure that is a nice feature that few F2P games have.

Perhaps community is better in P2P games than F2P? On my personal experience I wouldn't say that. I played WoW and nothing beats the maturity level of that game.

Get bored with a F2P game, well just find another and d/l it and try it for a few months. It is really no different than gettin bored of WoW and switching over to LotR. Same game just different story n look.

Now I am not putting down or praising either P2P or F2P. However I am just questioning is one so much better than the other. As F2P games seem to rise in popularity P2P games are really gonna hafta start bringing out more that will make people willing to spend their money to play. Just my two cents worth. Wondering what the opinion of other gamers would be right now. Being as now I look at the boards and always people complaining about one game or another.

Rejoice. For very bad things are about to happen.

P2P keeps out 'some' of the unwashed riff-raff.

Besides, there's usually issues with support, server stability, content upgrades that P2P's are better at.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

why do humans build, because it isn''t there

whatever game has what I want in I'll play.

My definition of an expert in any field is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

Fact is, its not the payment method, its the gameplay. If a game is fun I will play it. In my experience (about as long as yours) on average Ive enjoyed P2P games more than I have F2P. However, there are some really fun F2P games out there (to me, Guild wars is the best atm)

Tear down the veil, that bars your heart, from feeling this.

Yea thr thing I hate most about all f2p games is every character looks the same but its free so whatever. Guild wars and Sword Of The New World are technically p2p because they still need to be purchased even though no monthly pay, I would still consider them p2p.

Meh.. in my experience F2P and P2P have about the same as far as support goes. I had a problem in Rappelz and the GM contacted me within about 20 minutes. He helped me then we ended just chatting. Later that day he logged on with this normal character and we grouped together.

I've never had this happen in a P2P other then in DAoC and EQ1. I think it really just depends on the game and the company.

I've been really disappointed by P2P games lately. First was Hellgate.. then followed by Tabula Rasa.. when's the pain going to end?

I'm going to try PerfectWorld(F2P) and maybe FinalFantasyOnline(P2P) with my GF. Aion looks cool and will probably give it a try, but i'm running out of crap to play. Will try those 2 games then if I don't like either of them it's back to Rappelz.

Every MMO has a grind.. just depends on how you spend it. I like rappelz, because it's a fast paced grind.. slaughting tons of mobs 1 after another is just satisfying for some sick reason.

Nowadays, even the said "free to play (f2p) games have some form of payment attached.  Be it an item mall, or a "premium player" incentive.  Sure, you can play games for a diminished (or even diminuitive) version of the game, but if you want all the bells and whistles you end up having to pay in some fashion.  I think before people can compare much p2p vs f2p, a true comparison of what is "free" and what is "Paid" should be broken down.  Rather difficult to argue ones point, or position considering "Oh well if you pay XXX you can have that feature in this FREE game" can be brought up.

It depends. If there is a game that's P2P and one F2P, if I liked more the P2P than the F2P one, then I would play the P2P one anyways, regardless of how expensive its gonna be. Still it doesn't mean that P2P games are better than F2P ones. I know a few good F2P games that are much better than any other P2P games out there. Just because a game costs money to play it doesn't mean its better than a free one, although there are some P2P games that can offer much better technology than F2P games.
