Hello everyone! I have some questions about Tabula Rasa since I just got my eyes on it and it seems really really interesting and so my questions..

So the "aiming" will I be able to steer it with my mouse like in Counter-Strike or any other FPS game, or how is it here? In the movies I've looked they haven't said anything about the aiming thing, or I couldn't hear anything about it but it looks like he just ran with his character until the aim was just on a alien guy and shot it.

And about the ammunition, in the videos they run arround shooting all the time and seem never to get out of ammunition. So I wonder is there any ammunition to the weapons that you must buy and stuff? ( Would be awesome if there weren't)

And my third question is about the PVP. Is there any PvP in Tabula Rasa?

I hope I can get the best answers from all of  you !

Aiming is pretty much moving your reticle over the mobs to get a "lock" on one of them. Once you get that you dont need to be too accuate(at all). A mix between FPS and MMO targeting really.

Yes you buy ammo, but I've yet to come close to running low. I keep 5k of whatever ammo types I use and restock back at bases. Rarely am I buying more than 1k.

As aiming seem to issue for many people I explain the difference here and how TR aiming system works. How ever like it's sayed TR's system is mix of RPG and FPS aiming.

RPG aiming

You move cursor over the enemy anc click it to select. That is when You target is locked. You can also use many times keyboard to do same, like find nearest enemy and then use tab key to select correct one, what enemy will be You target. After the target has been selected, You do You action.

TR aiming

You target is aiming picture in middle of the screen. You line of fire is allways directly front of You, what can be changed by turning around You viewpoint with mouse. If You line of fire visual view is closer enough to some enemy, the aiming cursor will jump to enemy and point, is this You target. If You now click You mouse, action will happen to that enemy as target. If You keep You mouse button down, that target enemy is locked. You can also use tab key to confirm the locking to the target. This means if the enemy moves, You actions still happens to that enemy. You can lose target locking, if line of fire is lost, because You can't anymore see the enemy or it's too far.

FPS aiming

You have middle of You screen targeting picture or it's part of You cursor movement. You actions what You do goes allways in line of fire direction where You targeting cursor is point. There is no locking to target, but You self have to follow target with You target cursor.

Aiming, as said above, is a mix of fps and rpg type targeting. You primarily aim to "lock" a target. You can however adjust the sensitivity of the sticky targeting. You can even turn it off completely to be more fps-ish (although you'd probably be at a disadvantage). Some guns/abilities, like the shotgun, you do not lock any single target.

You do buy ammo. Depending on what weapon you use, it can be either expensive or cheap. Chainguns, for example, tend to burn a lot of ammo. There is no problem carrying more than you need though.

Yes, there is pvp. It is clan based currently. If your clan is a pvp clan, your clan leader can declare/accept wars on enemy clans. If you do this, you are at war for 7 days using basically FFA pvp with that clan. The game tracks the number of kills on each side, and a winner is declared at the end of 7 days.

The downside to this, as I am learning, is that if you beat an enemy clan too badly, they often will forfeit the war before the end of 7 days. They also are usually reluctant to enter wars in the future. Hopefully as more people hit level 50, this wont be such a problem. I think many people are focused on leveling up, and they don't want a clan war to interfere. Many clans have events where the clan losing the event forfeits at the end. For example, you might fight over a particular zone for 2 hours, or you may want a naked FFA fist fight, or whatever else. I believe the devs have plans for clan controlled bases in the future, and possibly a pvp planet as well.

You can also duel anyone anywhere outside of instances.

Liliane is ignorant as hell. He/She/It will continue to say it's FPS, but ignore it. You'll end up disappointed if that's how you believe the game plays.

Read my posts here: http://mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/thread/158497

It explains the entirety of the system. It's not real time based. It is turn based like all other MMOs. All you are seeing is clever designed to try and hide the turn based combat. Add in fast paced combat and you've got the illusion of an FPS. Just good clever design.

It doesn't play like counter strike.. from a long shot.. bullets have no mass.. nor do bodys have physics interaction with the said bullets. Shooting in the head is the same as shooting in the toe.

Ammo is pretty easy to come by as you get plenty of cash to support the ammo usage. You'll have frequent visits to different vendors for restocking. Ammo consumption is based on what weapon you use. Some use a ton.. others use very little.

PvP is in the game in the form of "clan wars" or duels.. basically you fight another guilds group.. nothing really special. Game is mainly pve based.

Don't believe what this person is saying. Next is quote from my own post in this thread, did I say that TR is FPS? There is in other thread where I did say it seems like TR has FPS system under it, how ever I did not say it's FPS. This Krileon person is full of BS and don't have clue what he is talking.  Basicly he is bitter because he has satelite connection and TR doesn't work with it. He keep getting a lot of disconnection. Now, he's job in here is to tell everyone how bad TR is. If You don't believe me, read his posts.

Oh so now you change your story? It's a mix. Like I said in the other thread to begin with. Not pushing for being flat out FPS anymore? Ok. Good think you changed it here. I don't feel like argueing with you about it anymore.

I'm not bitter. I'm just not playing right now. The connection issue is their crappy network code, but that's already been discussed so no need to bring it up again.

I'll give ya that you changed it, but it's still not FPS style aiming. Same as any MMO with "locked" targeting or "selecting" a target. Cone based attacks are an exception and are comparable to cone based spells in other MMOs.

As i've explained. It's called Clever Design.

I haven't changes any of my story. If You mean edit, yes I edit a lot, because I make a lot of changes and typos, but as You can see I have not edit it after You made You statemant that I'm saying TR is FPS. Here is quote from my other thread, if You have any other prove than You own misunderstanding, then show it.

That link is just a list of games. I don't see any posts (unless I'm just retarded)

Anyhow, how is TR, or any MMO even, turn based? Last I knew I didn't have to wait 3min for my PvP opponent to come back from a bio break before doing anything because it was his/her turn. =p

Yes, it very clever system.

I think this is all a misunderstanding. Your english doesn't appear to be to well and you appear to come off differently then what you mean. That's a possiblity, but I don't know. All I know is you're saying something, but not in the way you need to be.

Anyway, there is no FPS mechanics in the game. That's all I can really stress to you. It's purely turn based with clever design. I'm actually doing it in my MMO. It appears as a real FPS, but isn't. There is no lockon. It automaticlly targets the mob when you click to fire on the mob, but you don't see any targeting indication. Just clever design, but still turn based.. as the bullets like i've explained have no physical mass or interaction with the environment or objects within the environment.

Sorry if you can't understand me, but the game is far from FPS. I'm done with this. Lets move on already.

Yes, my english is pretty bad and other people have sometimes hard to understand it. It has something to do how I build sentences and how I say stuff.

I do understand You, I just disagree.

PS: Have You tried in game option to change sticky targeting delay from slow to fast?

Yes my sticky is at the fastest possible release. As I said it's the same. It's as if the game is hitting esc for you. In a normal MMO you target with click and press your auto attack. In TR you click and it targets as well as begins auto attack. When you stop auto-atking for the "sticky targeting" time period it is like pressing esc in a standard MMO and clears your target. There really is no difference. It just combines all that annoying work into 1 easy thing. It's called clever design. Just tricks you that's it. It's still turn based though.

Also many MMOs allow you to trigger auto attack as well as target in 1 click. This is the same thing, but you don't have to hold the mouse down. The reason you don't want toggle based auto attack in TR is because you have ammo limits.. so obviously that'd pose a problem if it was toggle based. It's just click & hold.

Okay! So the aiming system is, run up the alien until it locks and the fire :D

I buy ammunition from the shops and the pvp is like clanwars, although im not very interested in pvp I like pve games more.

and btw could anyone send me a 3 days trial key ? would really appreciate it, and  I will probably start playing Tabula Rasa

here's my email if theres anyone out there who's nice :D

some people forgot to mention that theres line of site, and cover and also some weapons are aimed differently.

if you kneel you can zero in on targets doing more damage. most weapons its a factor but some weapons its not.  shotgun is not, for instance and a rifle is.  Also, you dont want to run-and-gun with most weapons.  You'll end up wasting a LOT of ammo because you wont hit your target as often and your damage will be reduced.  When your toon is stable, you can lead mobs which closes your reticule for precise shots.  When you run-and-gun your reticule is open and your pissing away ammo.  When you do hit by run-gunning you'll do less damage as well.

and yes, you CAN lock on to targets and you WILL be able to lead them much more efficiently than not locking any target and just spraying ammo into a group of mobs.   This is done using the 'tab' key.  If you dont lock on to a mob, you can shoot at a group of mobs and hit several depending on the weapon and line of trajectory.

its not as simple as selectin a mob and firing.  Sure, you can do that but like I said.. your damage will be reduced by a LOT.. and you'll also miss a lot by run-gunning most weapons.  You also need to be facing your target, which coincides with leading a target.  If you're using a shot-gun, you can apply standard circle-strafe techniques like found in most FPS.  If you're using a rifle, expect it not to turn out well.

machine guns work well in timed short bursts.  again, these weapons handle a lot like FPS games.

hope this helps

If alien is too far for You weapon, yes, You need run closer. Next step is aim, what means getting enemy in middle of You screen to aim circle. Then You have a choise, do manual locking with tab key to target or just shoot. If You just shoot, it will soft lock You in that target. Different between soft and manual locking target is that when You stop shooting, manual lock is still there, but soft lock is more like temp lock. Locking means that You shoot that target, even if it starts moving, shooting will follow locked target.
