Yes, its not surprising , becauses TR is finally a serious scfi game.I think the official site has a link to a former AO Clan who completely switched to TR. However, from what i know , beeing scifi is almost the only the thing, that both games have in common.

Yeah, I love how we have these "critic gamers", who believe playing a lot of sucky games for extensive 15 hours a day gives them a title of "All Mighty Douchebag", almost like they have some sort of a high expectation parameter. News flash, no ones trying to impress you.

We meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the path of life.

I played AO for 5 years straight from June 2001, through all the delightful expansions and committed in-game service that FC had to offer. Loved the game. Lived the game. Founded a cool guild (still exists today...guess the name!!) made a tonne of friends, saw the best and worst an MMO could offer.

I know that the point of this thread is to identify alternatives to AO, and there are definitely a few out there, but I think it will be difficult to rekindle the flame many AO vets feel, not so much because of the strengths or weaknesses of current MMOs, but because the AO vets themselves have probably changed and evolved so much... For those of us that "lost our MMO virginity" to AO, can you really ever duplicate the feeling you had... that first time?

OK enough nostalgia, back to the cold and heartless world of Eve :)

I played AO from almost the start but SL killed the game for me.

Same SL absolutly destroyed the game for me, everyone left for SWG or other games soon after it seemed as well.

When I left I went to Planetside--->City of Hero's--->WOW--->Planetside--->City of Villians--->WOW--->Call of duty 4 (LOL).

I took some detours at DAOC, EQ2, Guild Wars, Neocron, Endless Ages, SWG, EVE, but I those didn't last for more then a week or 2.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. I played AO for 3 years, on and off.

Hypodermica - 165 Doctor twink

Hallogen - 215 MP

Technetiom - 210 Agent

I loved AO and the majority of my playtime was during the SL/AI phase.  Once the game went full froob, I noticed the community's quality seemed to dwindle down.  In my early days of AO, their was so much help abound from so many very nice people.  After the game went free, it seems like lots of immature kids whom no longer needed a credit card or even... any money at all for that matter were flooding into the community.  I sure miss the old days of AO pre-eden.

After AO I went to WoW for 6 months.  I did play WoW when it first launched but due to all the problems I quickly canceled.  I did play WoW at the time when Burning Crusade had just come out so it was kind of cool.  After that I tried EVE for 3 months but found it to be too slow for my pace, still it was a great game.  I did LOTR for 3 months as well but felt like I was playing WoW with a new paint job.

I now play TR and have re-captured the good times I was having in AO pre-Eden expansion.  TR does have it's bugs/issues but they sure are fixing them fast... every 2 weeks they launch a patch with new content and all kinds of fixes.  I haven't settled into TR yet, I'm giving it 6 months and at that point I'll decide to renew or not.  I miss my old AO friends but it seems most of them are gone.  I did create a froob account to say "hi" from time to time.  I've run into a few old AO pals on the TR servers which is always a pleasant surprise :)

PS.  I was thinking of starting a guild full of old Anarchy Online players.  My name in TR is Omni if you ever want someone to hang out with.  I do have a great guild I joined a week ago but I might just start a clan one day ;) for old AO refugees.

I played AO from launch-day through a couple months of the Shadowlands expansion, which killed the game for  me.  Like many of you, I haven't been able to find anything that captured me like AO did.  I've tried all the usual suspects, and some were great but they just didn't have it

I'm currently trying TR, and it's a mess, but I'll stick with it even though I don't have high hopes for it.  Also trying Eve Online, Guild Wars and Hellgate...  What else should I look into?  I never tried EQ2...  ???

EDIT: I think I may just stop fighting it and resinstall AO. Why fight it? I just can't find anything better out there to fill the void.
