Yeah well my PC still isnt up. So I wouldnt say this resolved for me or many others that have to wait for the PC repairman to fix them up. Its gunna cost atleat 100$ to fix. Please , please stay away from EVE online. They are eating operating systems. Where can I go to sign up for the class action law suit? |

EVE is a great game, and flaws in patches happen to every game.. This issue is only on Windows XP Operating Systems, Vista did not get affected by the problem.. They also warned everyone ingame and on the website for people not to shut down theire windows XP PCs until the problem had been resolved.. Those that did shutdown had bad luck, but then again you can contact EVE support and ask them about the problem, maybe they can give you a walk through on what you should do to get your PC working again.. |

Premium. Problem is resolved in all the content patches at this time. Only people who got the stuff yesterday are affected (I was) took me all of 5 minutes and 30 seconds to boot my system from the XP CD and replace my boot.ini from the backup in c:\windows\pss |

Originally posted by GoSonics I agree it is my fault. Its my fault that I trusted a download form CCP that went into my operating system like a virus. How many of thousands of customers are in the dark right now without even a clue what happend? How many of EVE's customers are gunn have to pay a PC tech to get them going again? I may of lost my operating system but i would of never been in this mess if i didnt download a patch from EVE online. how could CCp release a patch they never tested on anything but windows vista? GROSS NEGLIGENCE - Failure to use even the slightest amount of care in a way that shows Recklessness or willful disregard for the safety of others I urge anyone who has been affected by EVE's download to email the NY times about it. |

It's not like they're reformatting your hard drive or making your memory dimms do a houdini act. If you're operating system is down simply go grab your copy of Windows XP, boot from disk and do a system restore. Barring that just reinstall windows, which should take all of an hour or two. The only real pain will be integrating your graphic drivers and such, but unless you have one of the touchy 680i boards (like I do) everything is straight forward. If you are using a 680i then you're probably using SLI, and if you're using SLI you should be kicked for being a newb and buying from Dell. While it may be frustrating to have your computer down, it is not the end of the world. Either make friends with someone who understands basic PC repairs or spend a few hours reading up on it. Edit: I just found out this only impacts people with XP who have EVE installed in the same partition as their operating system. Maybe the first thing you should do is make a partition and move your online games to that partition, nothing but the most trusted software should be living right next door to your OS. |

Originally posted by natauschnot everyone has the knowledge or feels comfortable installing software. Many people buy a pc from a store and pay them to install the software just for that reason. Whats ccp gunna do to make those customers hole. tHis is a big deal a very big deal Trinity patch broke peoples operating systems. Many customers with only one pc probably didnt even know what hit them and are call a PC tech as we speak. How about the oor guys who downloaded at work ( you know who you are) and now their boss wants to know why their pc dont work. CCP's lates upgrade was like a viruse. So have named their newsts patch the ' Trinity Virus". Hopefully all viruse softare will be update their files to pick this up before anyone else gets hurts. |

I will say off bat that this is a horrible, terrible mistake for CCP to do. They'll be catching flak for this left, right and center, and rightfully so. The patcher is at fault, the system that installs the files. Apparently there was a faulty line there somewhere, and nobody bothered to test what it does. Shame on them, etc. etc., and I fully expect this will be added to the 'CCP wrongdoings'-list to be quoted in every thread on this forum having to do with someone asking 'whats it like?'. However, hystericizing that you've 'lost your operating system' or 'hundreds of users are now with dead computers' is going way too far. This is a relatively simple problem, and fixing it isn't overly hard even for less-technical people. If your first response to a computer problem is to take it to a computer tech who charges $100 to fix a simple system file replacement problem, you're both overreacting and getting ripped off by your computer tech. Seriously. For something this simple, I'd have trouble charging people at all, since all I'd have to do is pop one CD in the tray and pick 'restore boot files'. And I have done computer maintance for a living, before you ask. If you haven't yet rebooted after installing the dubious patch, this is a simple problem to fix via Windows Notepad. The afflicted file is a simple text file with .ini extension, and it can be rewritten manually. On EVE forums there's instructions on how to do this. If you have rebooted, and are now on a friends comp trying to figure out how to fix things, here's a little tip: To restore lost boot-up files for Windows, you don't need to use your OS installation disk, just use any OS installation disk that is from the same Operating System (XP, in this case). The restore function is not tied to validation or OEM-keys. Just borrow the disk from a friend, print up the fix-it instructions from EVE-O website, and get your system back on track. If you're slightly more technically inclined (in which case this is probably already occurred to you) you can take out your hard drive and put it as an extra drive on another computer, and then manually replace the missing file. Then you put it back just the way it was and hey presto! Working computer. If you're only now downloading the installer or updates, there's nothing to worry about, since the problem has been rectified in all the currently-distributed files. |

I've recently heard that this problem was reported to CCP during bugtesting on Singularity Test Server, but apparently either nothing was done about it, or the fix was done, and then somehow got lost during later fixes. I'm not overly concerned about this myself, but I'm expecting a lot of ex-CCP Quality Assurance people looking for new jobs pretty soon... |
