Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG.

Have you played the Wii? I bought one a short while ago, and I like it. I don't generally play console games, because I hate the controllers, and all the button mashing. But the Wii is fun, because you just wave the controller around to swing something like a golf club, or a sword, or you point to shoot something like a gun or a bow. No button mashing.

I think it would work really well for an MMORPG. You could point at the hotbar and click for some things, and simply tilt the controllers for movement, point to shoot a bow or gun depending on a sci fi or fantasy game, and if swinging a sword, you could just swing your controller, like in the Wii Star Wars game.

Of course it needs a keyboard for chatting, but that should be doable.

i would never play a mmorpg on a console, least of all the wii. im sorry, but that concept is just ridiculous, and wont ever, ever work.

The truth sets us free. But freedom is empty, cold and daunting, and lies can be warm and beautiful.

I read in one of EGM rumor sections around the time of the Wii's release that there were plans to make a MMO for the system in the vein of the Mana series, but that was a long time ago and I haven't heard anything since, so who knows.

While it's not really a MMO, Monster Hunter 3 is slated to come out for Wii, and those games are always some good online fun, which do a nice job of avoiding the feeling of grinding in MMO/Hack'n'Slash games with their innovative combat systems that could really incorporate the Wii controls. Again, it was just moved there recently from PS3, and I haven't heard much since, so it's nothing definite, but more solid than the stale Mana rumor. In addition, there is a chance it wouldn't be released in the U.S, as the last two iterations of the franchise did not make it to the PS2, but instead only the PSP versions came out states  side, so there's always that.

And I wouldn't say console MMO's wouldn't work, FFXI is a very successful MMO that has a large portion of it's playerbase on consoles, and it works out fine. Even the much malingind EQOA wasn't a complete failure and showed potenial for the the format. I've never really understood the hate PC enthusasists have for Console's though, so maybe I'm missing something.

With voice chat quickly becoming the primary method of talking, soon enough voice commands and what not. console mmo's will become bigger but on the wii? not sure might see some awsome mini online games but doubt full blown mmo due to the graphical limits.but it would be awsome

The video card is not a major issue. Many games currently have minimum GeForce 4. The Wii's video card is better than nVidia GeForce 4 series.

The major problem is RAM. The Wii does not, in my "opinion," have enough system memory to handle such a game. I don't think 76MiB is sufficient, but I could easily be mistaken about how much RAM is needed when only a few processes are running.

Other than more precise aiming and different controller shapes, the wii is nothing special. The button mashing is replaced with waggles. Also out of all the current line up it's the weakest, technologically. It also has the poorest online support, the other two consoles have a better chance of utilizing an MMORPG. The 360 already has one and another coming up.

Also I find it ironic that you chose that video with article to show what the wii can do...it just shows how developers continue to ignore what the wiimote controls can do in favor of waggle, essentially the same as pushing buttons except it requires more wrist movement than the simple push of a button with your thumb. So much for innovation!

I bet you'll eat those words one day.  At least if your honest.  It's certainly not ridiculous and I expect to have my opinion validated someday.
