I used to be a huge Eve junkie, until all the pirating turned into gate camping and suicide bombing, so I'm just wondering...if anyone can tell me..

How much is this game like Eve? Will we basically be able to do whatever we want and have as free an economy as Eve? That'd be super duper

I believe since its under an NDA we arent allowed to talk about it.

However, I dont believe the pvp is anywhere near as open as EvE from what I have read.

Jag har en som passar i melodifestivalen ocksÄ.

I don't know but I think it is 'dangerous' to think of the next game to be the saviour and the second coming.

Comparing to EVE and what is to be found at the forum.

It is alot of playerbased economy and there is PVP not as restricted as it may sound. An example can be that you won't loose 'everything' on the first death you will have endurance or what to call it that can be repaired by buying ships deed a ship may have 5 or so of this. When that gets to down you will loose ut until then you have this safety net that can save you.

And you can be pretty wuick up on you feet ruking form the set go compared to eve where you cant no matter on how much you play just cant get that trained skill any faster.

So in a way yes and in a way NO.

But thinking it will be next saviour (with emphasis of this) of any kind would most likely get you disappointed. That is not only for Potbs but in general. Play the game for what it is if you like then continue if you don't like it don't be a fool and endure what you don't like.

If you want to compare any game to Eve, you have to really be more specific. One thing about Eve that makes it hard to compare is how unique it is. So as far as the PvP, it wont be as open. Eve allows PvP anywhere anytime. It has Concord that come school you if you aggress in high sec, but POTBS wont allow you to attack outside the PvP zones.

The economy is going to be similiar IMO. Not as good at start, but thats due to the fact that Eve has had a long time to mature and POTBS will start out with nothing. So I imagine that down the road POTBS will consider bringing an economist onboard like Eve did, but it wont need to untill the economy really starts booming.

The AH system they use in POTBS isnt as complicated as Eve's own, but if you read up on it, the game looks to be just as sandbox style in its own way. You will have guilds attempting to conquer the world in this game and some just might do it. Where Eve is too large of a single world to accomplish that.

As I see it, the two are similiar in some aspects, but you cant really compare them side-by-side. Its more of a playstyle/preference differences that will be a factor.

Hm..you say PVP is only allowed in PVP areas, that really worries me. How many pvp areas are there?

There are 4 "nations" and each can have 3 ports "in contention" at a time IIRC.  That's 3 x 4 = 12.

But, these zones can overlap.

One of the main concerns for many of us is /are the restrictions on PvP play.  But, until we get to play it, who knows?

On the official forums/devlogs, I believe they said roughly 1/3 of the game map can be a PvP area at any given time. But with how the game works, every couple of days the PvP areas can change.

PvP are only in specific zones, so you can sail around them.

If you have to sail to a PvP port...you better get someone to escort you.

And EVE have some weird preset abilitys in combat, PotBS ship combat is realtime : )

From what I get from reading about it and watching youtube vids, its going to be like Eve-lite.

If you dont want to PvP just avoid the PvP zones. The pvp zones are not permanent so you can wait till someone wins a port battle and the area around it will become safe. If say the Spanish are attacking French NPC shipping outside of a French port, the more they attack the more they push the area around the port into contention (a pvp zone). The French can attack Spanish NPC's around said port to lower contention points.

Its how I always thought Eve should have been. Low sec empire; if 200 players got destroyed per hour, the controlling empire should send in NPC ships/Concord to protect that area until the players killed thresh-hold drops below a certain level.

From what i gather PotBS sort of works that way, you can make a pvp zone safe again by countering.

So I see PotBS being played like a giant chess game (in the Caribbean) with four players (nations with hundreds of people) trying to protect their pieces (ports), while trying to take someone elses. I cant wait.
