Im a MMO nab rly, never played any MMORPG exept WoW which i have bean playing for 2 years & its probably the best thing i have ever played

Since i recently quit the game cose many of my RL friends go fed up whit it (including me) im constantly lurking the net trying to find some other great MMO to replace WoW.

During my WoW years a lot of MMOs came to pass & had great expectations but failed, D&D is the best example since there was a huge hype during its creation & lot of my WoW buddies said "im quiting WoW when D&D comes out" guess how many left ?

So now the only 2 games i see myself playing r Conan & Warhammer which have bean posponed over & over...

What do you think about Conan & Warhammer ?

Warhammer is going to be PvP oriented which is why im focusing on it & Conan...well its Conan

Just want to hear your opinions on them, cheers

P.S. sry if this topic has already bean discussed.

I'll be playing WAR because it's going to be PvP oriented and avoiding Conan because it's probably going to attract a lot of the type I don't like from WoW because OMFG it's got boobies and blood which is the only reason a lot of people will check it out over any other new MMO and that's exactly the type of person I turned of general chat in WoW to avoid.

Maybe i'm being overly judgemental, a lot of decent people will be there as well but sadly you always notice the bad over the good.

Rejoice. For very bad things are about to happen.

Well, as you've observed, WAR and Conan keep getting postponed...which sort of leaves many of us in limbo at the moment.  I'm passing time in EVE until the day that either of these games gets released.

Right now it comes down to...who is being released first..... that's the one I'll be playing...(and I'm watching Chronicles of Spellborn and AION in case either one of these release first)

Now, were they all to release at the same time.... I'd go with WAR simply because I'm a former DAOC player and I'm hoping the RVR/PVP combat will rekindle some of magic I had with Dark Age back in the day.

Heck, I might even give PotBS a shot if it releases in January even though right now the genre (Pirates) doesn't really appeal to me.....

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

How people can find drawings attractive is beyond me. Blood and guts I can understand, I myself am a man, and I like to watch blood and guts, when things that create it are used - i.e swords, guns, etc.

Conan will attract less mature players, but these players may have to act mature in being scared of being reported to AoC mods...
I myself may not buy it because of recent things happening in their section of the forum here, in particular a person breaking the NDA to say something really bad, which was promptly deleted (just the more to cover it up).

Warhammer I probably will buy, I haven't looked into it but from what I've seen it looks good, although it will be some time before it is released, so maybe buy Conan until Warhammer comes out.

Pirates of the Burning Sea open beta will be soon, early December. You can give that a go, but I wouldn't have my hopes up unless you're really into economy and not the whole power thing, like epic armor, swords that decapitate in one swing thing.

Then there's other games, FPS games, which are totally different to MMO's.

But really, go for Warhammer, give Conan a go, to each his/her own. Whatever floats your boat hey.

I will give Conan a go, I'll give Burning Sea a chance, and give Warhammer a portion of my time and money.

Hmm...dont rly understand why would Conan attract younger ppl since WAR will be more like WoW (& wow is full of them)...i dont know, maybe im mistaken, its just that Conan has a rly mature feal to it.

To me its all about the theme in the beginin & playing a pirate err not interesting enough, SF MMOs r rly scarce, EvE looks great buts its way to late for me to start playin it & i rly havent herd anything good about Tabula Rasa.

looks like DAOC will come first so lets hope they dont screw it up

Age of Conan I will pass on.  The "mature" rating will probably insure you have everyone but "mature" players and the truth of the matter is that I don't define "fun" by blood / gore or computer generated female breasts.  I'm also not a huge fan of twitch based (FPS like) combat in MMO's.  I'm getting older so I'm not as quick as I used to be and if I get involved in a Marathon gaming session (I don't have to many of those anymore but hey it could happen again) I think the combat system will introduce a lot of fatigue.

WAR on the other hand seem's right up my ally.  It seem's to me it will have a nice blend of PvE and RvR, with there being a purpose to both.  It also has the typical MMO combat which I'm used to and generally like, with enough difference to add a new twist to RvR (morale, collision detection, and the ways in which the classes/professions operate).   The storyline (being Warhammer) is also something that appeals to me as I was a fan of the table top and it is a proper mix of being between WoW's cheesy wholesome goodness and AoC's "mature" blood, gore and boobs.

We shall see but there is still a lot of time left before either release.

I will keep playing Vanguard till something better show up,I'm not sure about either AoC or War,but I will for sure take a closer look at those when it comes closer to release.

I think I'll be picking Warhammer over Conan even though I love Robert E. Howard

I'm looking for MMOs that try to add more strategy to the combat.  And war looks like it might do a good job with that.   Another thing to like about WAR is WoW stole a lot from warhammer and warhammer is stealing it back, and will hopefully improve on it.

But I’m thinking The Chronicles of Spellborn may be my pick over both of those.   I’ll just have to try all three, good thing I have a job.

Delays are a natural part of the MMO development cycle, even more so than for other games due to the complexity and the simple fact that the devs will have to live with the result for years. This is not really a bad thing as it does give a disciplined and creative team the chance to develop a very good game but it kinda sucks when it takes so long between releases of good MMO's.

AoC and WAR both have the potential to be great games but anyone that's played MMO's for a long time will tell you that you won't know for sure until release... and sometimes not even then...

WAR has a great IP, experienced devs with a successful MMO behind them, it's designed from the ground up for RvR(PvP), it has solid financial backing, chances are very good that it will be great but until a a few days or weeks after release we won't know if it manages to tie everything together and make it *fun*. I'll give it a whirl and I'll even put some effort into beta if given a chance ;)

AoC has a lot going for it, personally I'm not too fond of twitch gaming in an MMO because of the inherent technical issues with latency. It may bring an immediacy to combat and make you more active in your playing style which are very good things but it also tends to leave the person with the lowest latency and the fastest machine with too much of an advantage. The boob thing will likely be a draw to get exactly the people I try and avoid to play the game but that crowd tends to jump on every new release in great numbers anyway trying to alleviate boredom...

It's interesting that the two MMO's that most people are talking about now are designed from the ground up to incorporate PvP unlike WoW, LoTRO, Vanguard, EQ2 etc.

I've played virtually every MMO, or at least tested it briefly.  They all have their good points and bad points.  Everquest/Everquest 2 have tons of "content".  Vanguard has alot of potential if you can get past the grind aspect.  DDO is innovative and fun, but lacks enough content to keep you interested beyond 2-3 months.  Warcraft has the problem of wanting to be a PvP game when it is only a PvE game.  WoW is fun, but not quite fun enough atm.

I will personally be choosing Warhammer.  I was a big fan of the RvR DAoC had.  It was much for fun than any other PVP I've done (Well, except for Sieges in Shadowbane  )  From what I've read about Conan, I doubt I would enjoy it.  It sounds interesting, but I am tired of paying 50$ for a game, just to quit it before the "free month" expires.

I'm hoping I get into Warhammer beta.  RvR will make/break the game.  I'm hoping my extensive PvP/RvR experience will help (and th fact that I want to see if the game will be worth my time)

People are looking to much into the "mature" rating for AoC, the only people who care about the ratings are the strict parents who probally wont let there kids play. Sure there will be kids who play the game but to state that the "mature" rating will attract more kids is ludicrous.  Gameplay will keep this game alive, not boobs and blood. The kids that buy it for that reason (even though I think there wont be many) wont be around for long anyways.

I will be trying both, they both have features that seem interesting if implemented correctly. AoC has seige combat and WAR has RvR. I would suggest trying both before passing judgement on either.

I think Warhammer will have PvE like WoW, which is a good thing, but expand on it with Public Quests and the Tome of Knowledge.

I think Warhammer will have next generation PvP, PvP that is balanced, fair, based more on your skill then on your gear (as is opposite from WoW) and will have a meaningful impact on the world through the RvR campaign. As long as I can do the majority of my PvP in the open world, instead of in instances, I will be very happy.

Age of Connan... I'm not too sure about. Graphically, it looks to be very superior. In terms of content, game play, and over all style/feeling.... I'm just not sure about it.

Warhammer, whenever I see videos or pictures or read developer commentary (and of course anything Paul does) it makes me REALLY want to play the game, badly.

Whenever I see new information on AoC or do further research into AoC, instead of answering questions and bolstering hopes, I get even more worried and unsure about my feelings towards AoC.

I will continue to watch both, closely, but I guess to some it up...

I know I'm buying WAR when it comes out. Garaunteed.

I have no clue if I'll purchase AoC or not.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

Both Conan and WAR have PvP aspects. Its tough to say what they are going to be truely like because they are only in beta so its all speculation. What WAR and AoC do have is the expectation to be a viable alternative to WoW. Noone wants another WoW, a lot of players want to leave, but the games out there right now are mediocre. WoW is a great game, but a lot of people ave burnt out . I believe WAR and AoC will be our 'celebrity drug rehab program'.

Based on my limited research

  • WAR will be like WoW but better with a PvP-focus.
  • AoC will be immersive, have many and varied features but have high spec requirements

What to expect? Lots of old and some new gimmicks.

It's interesting, when both were anounced, I was actualy very hyped about WAR and smirking in the general AoC direction. Then a strange thing happened, I started folowing it more closely and the more I found out, the scale started tipping more and more to the point where my only expectation from WAR is that it will have a free trial, so I can see what I'm missing and planing on buying AoC so I can at least do the single player part and the first month.

Maybe it's because I'm looking for something with more of a world feel to it, where when I think about WAR, it looks like it's a MMO iteration of an FPS multyplayer mode, with flashy graphics and skill customization. All of that is a gross generalization but it just looks like that when striped to it's core.

Hell, I'm even more excited about the first 20 lvls of Conan than about actualy sacking enemy capitol in WAR.

You should expect a $49.99 box with little content, high system specs, and alot of hot air from all the BS the devs are saying about the games.  You should also expect a $19.99/mo fee to keep the servers up cause they don't expect to have many players passed the 1st month.

The hot air item may actually become lukewarm in transit.

I expect AoC to be less successful than WAR, because Conan is not a well-known IP among young people. There hasn't been a popular Conan book or movie in a long time, so the only people who will attracted to the IP will be the old farts. Young people will naturally be attracted to the tried and true elves and dwarves. The boobs and blood will attract some young people, but after the novelty wares off, it will not keep them in the game.

That being said, the gameplay, politics, economy, and social aspects of AoC will be far superior to WAR. AoC is implementing mounted combat, siege warfare, capturable mines, a new combat system, voice acted quests, and formation combat. I eagerly look forward to learning these new systems, and immersing myself in the complicated interactions.

I expect WAR to be a successful, fun game, but not adding much new to the genre. It's just a mix of WoW and DaoC with the same old boring combat system. I'll pass.

Funny, thats the same impression I got from WAR.  Actually, I started getting pretty interested in the game until I realized that there probably would be much of a "world" there.  I could see how that "FPS multiplayer mode" type of feel would be fun for a little while, but I can't imagine that it would be interesting for very long.  Really, if I want to play FPS I'll play FPS.  The game play is better.  With an MMO I really do want some type of dynamic world.

With AoC, well, seems like another MMO that is suffering from "endgame syndrome".  Take their endgame idea, then base the entire game around that and you might have something...
