Asheron''s Call: Throne of Destiny

The topic has come up more than once that Spellborn and Asheron's Call are very alike.

I'm curious how many really feel this way .. I'm a long time Asheron's Call player, myself, and would be excited to learn that a game with the things I love about Asheron's Call and the things Spellborn offers aren't too distant from one another.

Has anyone else played Asheron's Call and seen this game's potential -- and compared them closely together?  What did you find?

I wouldn't say that AC and Spellborn are alike so much as when I look at spellborn I'm seeing something that will give me the feeling I had when I played AC.  The originality of the game mixed with all of the new features make me want to really play this game.  I really can't put my finger on it, but Spellborn does remind me of AC for some reason.

Logan AKA EnderzShadow

From that little video they released, the combat looks similar to Asherons Call. The jumping in combat, the aiming to hit someone with a spell are the two things I noticed.

I'm a big fan of Warhammer and I hear the WAR looks like WoW thing all the time. Who cares.

Yea, I think alot new mmorpg's look like each other. That isnt a bad thing, it's just the way mmorpg are following atm, till the next best thing in those games will get invented. It's the normal way of going.

And yea, to bad WAR looks a like WoW alot

That's why TCoS will kick their ... you know

As an AC player since beta and watching video's/reading ect. I also get the AC feel with this game. To me thats a verrrrry good thing.  One thing I can point out that its like AC in is the level diffrences. AC and TCOS are close in this aspect. In AC the game was more about skill than levels, in that I mean there where no set resistances on levels.  In AC if my sword skill was > then the melee defense then I would hit without a reduction in damage. From what I gather in TCOS its diffrent but the same. If you hit it you hit it. You dont suffer damage/miss rates from level diffrences.

live is like a box of.....

I only know AC from open beta... but i was heavilly intoo EQ back then, and never took the chance to really play it.

When i look at this game, i see many good things comming from Guild-wars. Strange but thats how i feel, a lot of skills available and only a finite number you can use in your set-up. And the Arena PvP system

Lets hope their graphics can convince me, as they took the graphics rout of WoW with a lower polygon count and artistic style...and that way allowing people with somewhat older systems to still play the game

So its more like they tried to pick the right things from many games and added something from theirselves (Like the true FPS combat system) and made it a really combat orientated game with less fur but with more spirit

You dont need to aim in AC, atleast not when I played. All you do is to target but what does exist in that game, but I dont think in this game, is that the spell/arrow actually has to make connect with your target to land. Then after it lands you take resists, defence etc into the calculation.

That quasi-fps style combat is what imo made AC 1 so great. You didnt have to be a twitch gamer but your success in combat was based both on player skills and character skills.

To me in terms of combat this game reminds of a pvp orientated DDO.

I think those two games are on opposite sites of the MMo genre... I don't see much simmiliarities

Like I said in terms of combat they are similar. You have to aim to hit your target, no auto target.
