Free MMO's are easy to find, but one's that keep my attention, however, are not.  Can anybody suggest a simple, fun and addictive free MMO for me to try?  Graphics aren't really an issue.  Mainly fun factor.  Something that will give me drive.

Be yourself

They are free, what did you expect? If they were any good they wouldn't be free. Grind, grind, grind, grind... No lore whatsoever.

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

DOMO (Dream of Mirror Online) has lore, in fact, it even has a branching storyline.  I heard the Euro version is in open beta.  US version is in CB right now.

Goonzu is another great f2p game, but you have to enjoy crafting though.  Its economy is completely player-driven with some political flavor thrown in.

Sad to say, these are the only f2p games available in west that has kept me interested for more than 2 months.

I've found this to be true about 90% of the time in life. MMORPGs are no exception.

If free games with item shops and optional premium subscriptions becomes a more viable business model for games that aren't churned out to make a quick penny, then there may be an increase in the quality of free games that are essentially "free."

But so far, there aren't many that I have played that I like at all.

Well, unless you like grinding endlessly with bare-bones action-RPG mechanics, and don't mind playing Fighter/Warrior, Wizard/Magic User, Thief/Rogue or Healer/Cleric. Then there are plenty of free games for you to enjoy.

Not my cup of tea, personally. I'd find more enjoyment in getting beaten up by Etna for two weeks straight with a tire iron. And that hurts, dood.

I think you are too picky with mmos.  Most MMOs suck subscription or not.  Infact there are only a handful of sub-based model games that rival the best free2play games.  I suggest Dungeon Runners, Guild Wars, and Granado Espada:Sword of the New World(although the US host is crap).

QFT ..

Perfect World, Granado Espada, RF Online and Guild Wars especially are as good if not better than 90% of these vaulted P2P titles. Tell me..where is this vaulted P2P parallel universe you speak of?

Cause I can't find it..

pffft....What stupid moronic companies would decide to make a mmo for completely free? Most free MMO's will have items you can only buy from a cash shop the only true free MMO's mabye used for test marketing, or other reasons. So it's like a more sneaky way for one to folk out their cash. Subscription I think the majority of time are pathetic, £10 a month? £5 max a month with decent customer service and update is the least I would expect.

/end rant

Irth Online is going free. Its skill based like UO and has a great housing system with PVE and PVP options.  Check it out, it may be what your looking for.
