LoL I just had a funny thought. Can you receive damage from falling certain distances? As I was thinking how your avatar can get drunk and all and imagine if you got the bright idea to get drunk with your avatar...Well needless to say I'm sure there would be a few of us who would get the bright idea to climb the roof and jump off! |

Originally posted by zxnyAll I can tell you is that one of the first things I am going to do when I can climb something high, I will try to jump off Another thought, if there is say a mage, or other ranged class on a cliff shooting down at your allies, could you say... push them off?? hehe be a nice addition to some stealth classes. |

I believe that in the class previews they have talked about several classes having "knockback" attacks, so there ya go. |

Originally posted by CzzarreThis is certainly true and is one of the reasons CoX is a much better built game than most other MMORPGs. Super jump is awesome. Of course it has funky implications in the PvP. Its funny how in the comics all these super fast and super flying superheroes stand there and duke it out mano a mano. But when you make a game with that kind of stuff everyone actually uses their brains and jousts. Its funny because they made the travel powers suppress because in the end speed and maneuverability are extremely powerful and people know it. They aren't the novel coolness that is forgotten about once the fighting happens that you see in the comic books. Yet people also want the fighting to work like the comic books with people dueling it out like heroes. The travel powers are literally able to completely dominate the PvP of CoX, which if you look at the history of warfare makes a lot of sense. The sad thing is most MMORPGs simply put the hammer down and disallow anything rather than try to come up with a way to put it in a way that works well. CoX put it in for PvE. Afterall how can you make a super hero game without super speed and flying etc?
The very interesting thing is that clearly the CoX devs would probably have done the same thing as everyone else and simply put the kibosh on the whole thing, but due to the genre they simply couldn't completely mess with it. So while things like super speed jousting were neutered they are not completely destroyed.
And then there is EvE online which once again actually dealt the problem via gun tracking and a realistic use of speed and acceleration. And in the end this is the only real difference between Eve and other MMOs they actually come up with ways to make these things sane. Unfortunately I think may also be what makes the game so slow. |
