Flying Lab has announced that the Pirates of the Burning Sea pre-order box is now officially in stores.

They really just don't make a word* for how pleased we are to share that we have definitive confirmation of the Pirates of the Burning Sea Pre-Order box's availability at Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, EB Games/GameStop and CompUSA locations across North America.

And we've even got proof! Check out the handsome photograph below, depicting Flying Lab Software's Lead Character Artist, Ken Osuna and Environment Artist, Woody Engle with Pirates of the Burning Sea Pre-Order Boxes- Fresh from the EBGames store here in Seattle.

Just what I was going to say, lending them your money for a few months with the hopes that the game actually publishes is ridiculous.

Hear, hear! Making pre-order a common practice is begging to bring in the vultures. (although i still have high hopes for vanguard )

So..... I go down to the shops to buy a box that says I can go down to the shops in some months time to get a box??? Is POTBS really going to be so massively in demand that they won't be able to print enough copies to go round?

Preorders help give companies an idea of how many copies they'll need to ship...and they often give us a special in-game item :) works for me!

Not releasing a game after collecting preorder money is one possibility, but releasing an incomplete and buggy game lacking promised content is just as bad. In the latter case they often don't issue refunds. Best to wait and hear the reviews if you haven't sufficiently tested the game yourself.

We all know about the preorder items aka advantages. It's a sleazy way to attract preorder money and the greater the advantage aka enticement,(like a 15 day head start) the more indication that something may be wrong with the game. These preorder advantages alienate potential retail customers who view them as unfair for those who cannot earn them in-game. It's basically a RMT purchase sponsored by the developer.

I don't think a preorder box is at all similar to a nonexistant bridge ;)
