Recently downloaded the "play the fae" 14 day trial for Ever quest II and I have to say that it definitely got my attention. Played firstly as a fae because thats all that was available upon first creation, and while I am traditionally a griefing ne'er-do-well, I found myself frolicking joyously around the fairyland raining lightning upon little crabbies. Now, I played to level 10, and was quite frustrated realizing the level cap is 10 for the trial. Rolled a dark-elf assassin and had a good time of it getting to ten. What i'm wondering is, before I decide to purchase this, what is the PvP like? I kind of got the impression that it's pretty open ended, bad characters vs good characters. And if you run into a good zone you can pretty much gank anyone you want? Fill me in please. Care bears need not contribute to this thread. |

Well let me make no bones about it... I loath PvP with a passion.
However, that being said, you can join a PvP server. On that server, anyone of one faction can attack anyone of the other.
On any other server, PvP takes place only as requested dueling, which is an option that can be turned off by the players in question and most people DO turn it off because the request can come at the worst possible times. And the idiots who ask it often ask over and over and over and over again even when their request has been denied. I've even had people be rude enough to actually message me to /duel. If I said no through the official request process, why would I be more likely to accept just because you sent me a /tell?
If its not dueling, you can go to the arena to PvP against other players but I've heard the arenas are dead.
PvP isn't the point of Everquest, questing is. And most players (but not all which is why PvP servers exist) realize that. |

I wrote this in another thread, almost full ctrl-c ctrl-v
The so called "PvP" in this game sucks very badly. allow me to elaborate. You start off fine, when you hit lvl 10 you are faced with a large ammount of ganking twinks that have lvl-locked whoms only objective is to kill you for fame or something. They suck and they have no skill. The "PvP" ruleset doesnt give a flying crap about new players and most of the players there spend their time on their twinks to experience the so called "pvp". There are no battlegrounds either so they spend their time griefing and sht. There are ways to "get used to it" and get "around it" but its nearly impossible for a new player. You'd have lock at lvl 9 and go farm mats like a madman, make friends with a good crafter that can make you MC gear (you'd have to do this every 10th level). You'd have to play your a$s off to get many AAs (like talent points in wow) since all the twinks have loads of these and will hand your arse to you in the snap of a finger. You'd also have to endure countless gang-kills and unfair fights. Eventually you will become one of the and the evil circle of death and despair and miserable game design is fullfilled. happy hunting
anyway, this game is really good (aside from the godforsaken pvp) and the community is mindblowingly astonishing.
Me and a friend bought everquest II and it was really fun, its like wow but for adults. I couldnt understand |

The PvP community in Everquest 2 is very small. That's why most pvp servers in EQ2 have low-medium population. Everquest 2 isn't exactly a game balanced for PvP either, some class will totally pwn you no matter what you do. |

Okay, thank you for your input. But I was actually wondering how the PvP ruleset works. Like, what are the rules. Opinions about griefing are of no concern to me.
Also, what kind of populations are we talking about (numerically) for each of the server load words (low, medium, high) |

basically pvp is faction based. qeynos & kelethin vs freeport & neriak there is also the option to drop you ralignement and become an exile which means you can attack everyone and can be attacked by everyone. exiles can also work back faction with one city and become a citized of that again. There are level ranges depending on which zones you are in which determine who you can attack to stop high level players from ganking low levels. In the starter areas these level ranges are small but ranges get bigger the higher your level gets and in the top level zones there is no level limtations at all. you allso can allways atatck any higher level player than you, they just cannot hit you first if they are not in level range. City zones are safe zones for their citizens, they cannot be attacked in city zones unless they attack an enemy player first. if they do that they will be marked as attackable for a limted time. There is also limited looting from killed enemies. This means if you die you will loose a part of the money you carry around (the money you deposited in bank will stay untouched) and there is a chance that you will loose an item that is not bound to you to the enemy that killed you. If you kill someone then you can get a bit of his money and maybe an item. Eq2 uses different versions of the spells for pvp and pve so a spell where the pve version would oneshot any player will not hit that hard in pvp, also stuns and other crowd controll spells don't hold that long in pvp like they do in pve...

Originally posted by Patriarch I will be perfectly honest with you. If you are buying this game and PvP is a major part of your playstyle you are going to hate it. PvP is just not central to the game. It was added at a later date and really wasn't done very well. It was an after thought. EQ2 is not a PvP game, its a PvE game that they added PvP to. That being said the PvE game is great. I have been playing for about a year now and really enjoy it. She sheer number of classes, quests, dungeons and zones will keep the average PvE player busy for a very long time. But if you are a PvP'er at heart this is probably not the game for you. I liken it to EVE. Eve is a PvP game that CCP just added PvE to for fluff to get in a few subscription from PvE players. EQ2 is the exact polar opposite. |
