I keep hearing people say Tabula Rasa is not good because it's repetitive... Ive been a fan of MMO's for a while and i've never played one that i didn't think was repetitive. What exactly are people expecting? No quests that are going to be similar? Not grinding for experience? Now i have not played this game yet, but i am buying it soon, but how can someone say an MMORPG is bad because it is repetitive? It seems crazy to me. |

When you are completly uniformed and know nothing, all sorts of things will sound crazy. People that know nothing about rocket science will think it sounds crazy man can travel to the moon. And just like you, they will take the first opportunity they get to call others "crazy" instead of themselves "clueless" First buy the game, then play the game at least 4 weeks, then input. First experience, then feedback. Will make you look a whole lot better "This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly. |

I have to admit. The first hour of the game was awsome. I love the new fighting style. I showed my wife, who hates MMO's and she might actually start playing. She's a big console fan. Then maybe two hours into it I got bored. I walked away. Waited a day and then realized I wanted to finish off more aliens! Once you get used to the system, took me an hour or so to get used to the UI and how to spec properly and not gimp myself, this game really shines. I know right now the quests can be lame and repetitive, but the cutscenes for the instanced quests and just the overall appeal to a faster paced "REAL" feeling conflict is awsome. I'm hooked now. If your looking for something other than WoW/EQ2/DDO type of MMO, then give this a try. I'm sure you'll spend more money going out to eat. This game has a lot of potential and so far has been really good with my casual style of play. I don't know if I could play for six hours straight, but for two to three hours quest grinding and seeing real level gains and stat improvement rocks. This will definately keep my attention till March 25th!! AoC release. On a side note. This game looks awsome in 1080i through HDMI cables on my 42' Plasma.....freaking ROCKS!!! |

this isnt exactly the first mmo ive played where everyone said it was repetitive and the game was no good because of it. My point is that all mmo's are going to be repetitive for the most part, so if thats what people have against it they need to find a new genre of gaming to fit their needs. Because i havent played this game does not make my opinion worthless however as you seem to think. |

Garriott made a lot of promises about how the game would be revolutionary, innovative, different and all sorts of other hype. |

Yet another attempt by you to denigrate anyone that likes the game. But I could be wrong - perhaps you could post a link to a study that proves your statement. |

I think there is a "hump" to get over, somewhere around lvl 8-15, where the game seems very repetititve. After that point it gets much more fun. I solo'ed everything till ~22 or so, even the instaces up till then when I was about 2-3 levels above avg for them (which is one thing I really like), but then I got to the 2nd real zone for ~25's and did the "bug" instance there. Let me tell you, there's nothing like have 30 mobs rush you at the same time and having 6 people gunning them down for about 5 minutes and making it through it. Its really no more repetitive than any other MMO, and the playstyle branches out as you go up so it keeps some variety mixed in. Can't speak for later levels, but after the HUGE letdown HGL was its nice to get into a game that I thought wouldn't be all that. |

Personally, I call "repetitive" running up to a mob, pressing attack, and spamming specials while the toon does the auto-attack thing, wait for 30sec / 2min for mob to die, then do it again. TR doesn't have that. Instead, I can jump off a ridge, fire my RPG into a group of unsuspecting Bane, land among them, fire off shrapnel, and proceed to watch the entire group die, while noticing that Bane reinforcements are landing via drop-ship, and that I'd better be taking cover. Repetition in TR would consist of defending a CP with a rifle....ya know...sniping countless bane as they swarm toward the base, hoping you can kill them fast enough so that they don't over-run the base...of course, it only lasts so long, because sooner or later, that big predator is going to notice you, and force you out of your little sniper hole with a withering hail of fire. There's different flavors of repetition....I happen to like the taste of TR's. |

Originally posted by Mathillas DDO? I actually think DDO and TR have a lot in common gameplay wise with both having realtime combat with special items/weapons fired off from a hotbar. DDO may not be as persistant a world as TR but it makes up for this in character customisation. As it is I think both these games have come at the same idea from different angles...both are very good games for simlar reasons. DDO is just more instaced based and TR bigger and faster. I come from a background in WoW as well. 3 70's and hated playing since about a week after TBC. Nothing new, same quests, same weapons and specs, .. and once your character is high enough.. you wont want to start another class due you've invested too much time and money into that character. ( think epic flying mount ). I too had no idea about this game. I clicked a link in the wow forums that took me to a website with this game. I was semi interested and looked around for some gameplay videos. Graphics looked good, the game sounded solid with diffrent styles of play / classes.. and as i always logged off wow to play CS or something.. the FPS side of things really had me curious. I log in.. 5 hours later im testing anything i can get my hands on. Quests are mainly running around helping you navigate the map and side quests are kill bugs along the way. Not once did i sit in an area and say.. ": dam.. too many people here.. i wont ever finish this quest due to kill stealers ", or " man.. this is boring... all i do is kill boars for 3 hours". Its not the same feeling WHAT SO EVER. You kill aliens... thats repetitive.. but in the style your killing them.. its about as repetitive as CS is. Anything can happen, you can use all types of weapons, nades, hand to hand. You might think " Oh yeah.. 3 guys.. cake walk"... then a drop ship lands right beside you and drops off 6 more guys. The game is like any other MMO where you have to quest in order to level. But when your running around blasting things in a crosshair you control.. it just seems alot funner. You have bad aim? Cool.. use a shotgun and get in close. You wanna blow off some steam? Pick up a chaingun and go nuts !!!. Nothing cooler than seeing 10-20 damage per bullet to a group of aliens and you realize your firing about 100 rounds in 5 seconds. Anyone who claims this is repetitive.. i HAVE to ask.. what they play. Ive played every major MMO, FPS game in the market for the last 5-10 years. I also own a PS3, and Xbox360. So.. any style of game that comes out.. i like to try. Needless to say.. this game IS DIFFRENT and IS SUPER FUN. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to sit in a city boasting how 24 other players helped you kill 1 boss after weeks of attempts to show off a purple weapon that will become obsolete in a few weeks due to a "change" or "patch".. good luck. This game is more of a "get relaxed", "get ammo", "repair" .. and head out to kill bugs. The feeling you get isnt the same. its more of an adventure then a feeling of questing. With everything happening around you.. you actually complete quests without really noticing... and thats what makes it fun. Overall.. this game is a great game to play if you just dont want to sit in a group for 6 hours waiting on others to do things etc. Its go out and have fun solo or grouping with others and sometimes.. that group turns out to be 30 soloers killing bugs as a group. Its pretty cool to see actually. I think of it as a MUCH better made Starship Troopers. FPS vs BUGS with MMO and RPG rolled into 1. So far.. wayyyyyy better then i even could have imagined it. |

You're kidding, right? Crysis is an FPS. Hellgate is a bug-ridden, nearly-unplayable piece of crap. It was actually the sorry state of HG:L that led me to try out TR. Don't make me point out the innumerable ways TR is better than HG:L, neither of us have enough time for a list that long. GW I will give you, that is a good game, but it's also been how for how many years now? Comparing a game that's been out a week to a game that's been out for years is like apples to oranges. Compare TR in a couple years to GW now and you'd have a fair comparison. MMO history: |

I would argue that TR is only as repetitive as any other game other game out there. You have 5 abilities and weapons that can be loaded at any one time, however different situations will require different setups. Which can add a lot more depth to the game then people seem to acknowledge. Likewise, each skill level may have a completely different effect - which can also add extra confusion. :) If you read through the quests as you play through the game you will realize that the story-telling is top-notch. So if you enjoy that sort of things it is a big plus. You may be killing x and y mobs, but the back story is there and very interesting. The action is nonstop and it is easy to stop at a control point and just play there for an hour or two with some fellow AFS trying to take it back and defend it. If you rush through the quests, you may find yourself not enjoying the experience as much - but it is up to you. I would just say take your time and explore the game that is before you. You will not regret it.

Tabula Rasa, the grind is hidden to a certain extent by the fact that the combat is fun and engaging. So yes, there is a certain degree of repetition, just like any MMORPG, but Tabula has less repetition and less 'grind' then most MMORPGS, even WoW, and it's a lot of fun.

I have to say if this game is repetitive, it is the most repetive fun, I have had in the last 8 years of playing a MMO. I hit level 19 tonight in the "Devil's Den" and man it was the most fun I have had since taking down "Mos Themis" on Shadowfire server (PvP). I think like all games, eventually we will get tired of doing the same thing or similiar quests in in "TR" but for now this game is very fun which makes it more of a "game" feeling instead of a "Job" feeling. One thing I have to say also, that is a ++ for this game, they made it where I don't have to grind 20 billion "Ksavari" over and over again to level (or the same quest for that matter). I can do it doing quests everytime, I log on hence "it's different" than all the games out there currently.
