In WoW, the combat is really slow... even dagger aren't fast enough so think about a 2 hand sword attacking every 4 seconds... you got the image alright? Now add some Misses, Parrys, Dodges, Resist, Blocks and evades. Soooo much fun ¬_¬ |

Depends on what class it is that has a low hit chance. A warrior with a low hit chance with his weapons is fairly rediculous since a warrior is suposed to be the generic wepons master the dude that has heavy armor and a lot of wepons that he/she knows how to use. Same goes with a mage with low hit chance for spells IMO it's kinda hard to miss with a fireball...but then thats me. Now a low hit chance for a mage wielding a 2 handed sword...i can see that i guess it would depend on how it is applied so please post some clarification as to the context for a low hit chance. |

See... I'd rather have a game where you weren't so worried about hit chances. A game about dodges and counters and blocks and parrys and dueling where if a single hit landed it would either kill you or severely weaken you.... I love MMORPGs and I love RPGs, but I'm not a big fan of the "whoever has more DPS and/or more hitpoints wins" model of gameplay. It's just players / mobs exchanging blows back and forth.... and back and forth.. until one of them goes down. I think it's possible to create a more action oriented MMO that isn't FPS style combat, but uses RPG numbers and skills/abilities more like a fast paced game of paper rock scissors... like a rapidly evolving and changing game of paper rock scissors with stances and states and effects and procs and triggers but is based around the model that: Player 1. uses skill X Using our hotbars and action bars typical to MMORPGs as cards that are played in an incredibly fast game of rock papar scissors... I dunno if that makes sense... i had it all more fleshed out when I was designed my "perfect MMO" in the blog I have here... but i haven't thought about it for a while "You'll find a great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly upon our point of view." |

IMO, WoW have the slowest combat ever... It Dungeons & Dragons but instead of 1 d20 to represent the attack resistance, there's like 6 of them. |

Originally posted by heerobya same... recently checking out mabinogi in wikipedia, it seems like it's that way. (I sorta want to try it, but it's not released over here.) But take into consideration it's a pretty old game and probably didn't execute the concept too well, although I really do like that this game has impact and physics in this game even if it's a bit glitchy. They're coming out with Mabinogi Heroes, but that one is actually action oriented rather than pressing abilities and honestly does look like something that could be on a console.
Anyways, sorry for being off-topic. Low hit chance? Hell yea, I hate it. Well, it depends also sorta. If it makes the player feel useless, then it is bad. If it doesn't, then it's fine. In other words, it is relative and is base on how well the other players around are faring off. That's why it's unentertaining in Guild Wars when I play a melee character and get hexed, or blind, or opponent use stance, or crippled, or opponent use enchantment, etc. I think that game penalizes melee way too much. And it's not only limited to a low hit chance. I think it's ridiculous that a dedicated healer can mitigate all damage by any character as well (because again, it makes the attacker feel useless), and it limits the possible strategies to mainly spiking in order to kill. And I'll leave it at that... Edit: Oh yea I remember betaing WOW...Yea, it's boring when it's unchallenging as well, when combat is too slow/repetitious. |

You guys who think WoW's combat is slow should check out oldschool EQ lol... when I first started playing WoW it felt almost like an arcade game in comparison :P |

I prefer MMO combat that is less RPG real time turns and more "hit the mouse button and my sword swings" type of thing. This has barely ever been pulled off well in an MMO but where it was I found it awesome 9IE in RYL though the game wasn't to great I adored the combat).
I don;t see anything wrong with modifying combat systems away from traditional RPG type turns and values to more FPS type, within reason and if it is done well.
