I'm going to be brief here. I like them both. Just like sometimes I have a craving for an apple and other times I have a craving for an orange. |

They are different games. Each one with its strengths and weaknesses. The problem is, most people dont have time to play both Torrential |

This is like comparing apples and oranges. It's pretty hard to pit them against one another, they both have their own unique niche in the gaming industry.

I would pick CoX any day. In fact, I would rather sell my computer than ever play WoW, again. It's just become far too filled with people I'd rather keep away from, but that are more than able to begin to stalk me and try to steal my kills, or to beg for me to group with them, et cetera. In CoX, I've hardly ever had a random group invite, and, most importantly, there is no Goldshire. |

I probably never would have tried any other game if SOE/LA hadn't totally f**ked SWG that year. WOW never lasted longer than a 2-week trial on my system, but I've played CoH since Dec 2005. |

These games are both from around the same year, so they are a valid comparison. Which is better, is a tough question however. I think the general consensus is correct that it is like comparing apples to oranges, since WOW is so much larger than COH and they have a fantasy vs superhero theme. I think WOW has more emersion and its a fact that wow has more end-game content and will forever since blizzard will invest millions into wow to protect it's crown as the most successful videogame ever made. I think COH has more fun right out of the package... I mean who cares about a mount that's 40% faster than walking when you can fly and super speed around right? Plus you get it at 14 no matter what, when I have seen people willing to do sexual favors for mounts in wow.... I guess you have to go big or go home for that game hu? I played coh for a very very very long time, but I just quit because the updates were not enough to add some "new" to the game to rekindle the fervor I had when the game was in beta. It is now an old game with old graphics and a played out story line. Wow on the otherhand adds more content every day. If you go on a long weekend trip to disney world, you'll come home and be out of the loop on the new wow content. In that respect, I think wow takes the upper hand over COH/COV. Hate to say it because I personally do not care for wow, but I'm trying to be unbiased. Elite poster by 82 |

I play both just depending on my mood of the day. I like being a defender(healer) in CoX because you can still get up in the fray and fight while you heal your team. Where as in WoW I kind of stand back and just heal depending on the instance although a shadow word pain happens most of the time :) I guess it just depends on if I want to wear spandex and fight weirdos or put on a wizard hat and robe and fight dragons.

I won't say game 1 is better then game 2. But, here are the reasons why I personnally play/think to play CoH/V and I wouldn't consider playing WoW:
1- Endgame is optional, totally. You can raid, PvP, TF/SF or just buy it from the Black Market and you can earn everything. 2- I kill 20 minions instead of 1 in the same time lenght. 3- I am stronger as a level 50 vs level 50 mobs then I was as a level 1 vs level 1 mobs in CoX. In WoW, a level 1 is stronger vs level 1 mobs then any level 70 fighting level 70 stuff. In CoX you progress in everyway, in WoW, although it is not that bad, you regress. In CoX, at level 1 I can take on 3 level 1 minions and that is stretching it...at level 50 I can take on a score of minions level 52, 2 lieutnants, 1 boss and 1 elite boss all at the same time. 4- Travel powers. 5- Fond memories and happiness even if I stop to play the game. Everytime I think of the game, a smile appears on my face...not the case with most other MMOs out there, where there is usually some bitterness in a way or another. 6- Customisation in powers is amazing...finding someone EXACTLY like you on major assets is a feat...most players won't have the same primary and secondary as you have...and those who have the same are still going to take differents power and secondary set... 7- Sidekick/Lackey/Examplar/Malefactor...I can play with ANY of my friends with ANY toon I want. This is priceless. - "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - René Levesque about the denial NO on the poll to his dream, project and goal. (Free translation) |

Originally posted by kingdarnayeI prefer CoX. I've not played very much WoW but I played long enough to be frustrated by:
On the plus side it has a greater variety of missions, a great end game experience and it's not such a resource hog so it might suit more if you've a old PC. Also, it's huge! More players means more money, which means more content. CoX's biggest drawback is lack of mission variety but they have been working on adding new tilesets (RWz/radio) and objectives (prevent 30 Fir-Bolg Escaping). I suspect they keep getting distracted by requests for new zones, AT's and powersets, so hopefully I12 will include a load more missions types since I11 includes new powersets and a coupe of zones (RWZ/Faultine) were (very succesfully) revamped earlier. Which ever you end up playing, enjoy yourself.

Keep in mind this is only my personal experience with wow and cox. One day someone told me wow is a shallow game because it seems all good and fun at first but once you play it for a while you realize its the same quests over and over and it lacks any real depth. When they said that it really hit me I thought you know he is right. One thing I did not like is you earn mostly the same skills over and over except talents now in most games ive played you usually get more depth then that. While in cox you can customize your looks and your powers pretty much any order and any slotting you wish. The pvp in it was horrible and one thing I never understood is blizzard had all this time to make changes to characters and espically all this time to test there updates/expansions yet they always make drastic changes unlike cox, sure cox nerfs things but not half as bad as wow. Maybe they dont know how to test it enough or its some kind of scam to keep people playing. Wow is much more time consuming it takes me what 2 hours to feel some kind of accomplishment while in cox it takes usually no more then 15 min to finish a mission, but wow does offer more depth in exploring and pve in general.
Cox missions can be reptitive but I always have way more fun doing those then I did with quests in wow, although I did find some things more challenging then wow. You know everquest 1 had quests but it was mostly a grindnig game I had 10 times more fun in that game then wow, if was my first mmorpg but it had the most depth in pve, skills, and exploration ive ever seen yet in a mmorpg. but of course it was to time consuming so in the end I had to throw it away before it took up my life. One last note the community rocks in cox compared to wow and people take cox way less seriously, wow can easily turn people into addicts I have very rarely seen this in cox except for the virtue server.

You can have more fun in a less amount of time in COH - COV. More importantly, its usually more consistant fun. Both games (and all games) have a big repetition factor that gives diminished returns, and you can reach the threshold guicker in COH onyl because youre not spending an entire night in one instance for months on end. I must confesss i like WOW pvp better because your enemy isnt constantly zipping around with super speed or endlessly leaping in circles around sky scrapers or hiding near police bots. PVE in COH is so much fun and dynamic for many of the power sets and im always curious to try out new ones. I only love 2 WOW classes. In COH i love most of the power combos. Of course its a matter of taste, like all things, but WOW will usually leave you unfulfilled and feeling like youve wasted your time. |
