A good article was posted on the KillTenRats website with some estimated numbers for housing on Landrovel Quote : This study took place on 11/02/2007 @ 8:30 pm EST on the Landroval server. Standard and Deluxe houses are purchased by individual players and you can only purchase one house per account per server at this time. Kinship houses can only be purchased by a Kinship leader with a Kinship rank of 7 or higher. The stats are broken down by race/location for Man, Elf, Hobbit and Dwarf. The numbers are the total number of houses sold. Interesting read... Quote : From my impressions, the majority of players do not own a house yet. How are your kinships doing? Does everyone either own their own home or does your kinship have a house.. Cheers! |

My Kinship has one but I haven't bought a home for my character.
On a side note, only Kinships that reach L7 can purchase a Kinship home. |

my kin has one as well, but i don't really see the benefit from me owning one. Just seems like a waste of money, but maybe I'm missing something...

I bought my house on the first day of the patch. I only have one complaint about the neighbor hoods and that is they put too many kinship houses (4) and not enough regular houses (16) in each neighborhood. The deluxe houses is pretty close to right on. Most neighborhoods have all the regular houses sold out in the shire less a few deluxe houses and only 1 kinship per neighborhood. Hopefully they can make a tool that allows the neighborhoods to make a park or something and regurgitate the kinship houses not being used. |

My kin has one, but I haven't bought one yet. Been waiting for the rush to die down some, plus I have a friend I need to get with so we can buy in the same neighborhood. I'll probably get a standard one since I only have about 4 gold. |

I'm the leader of a small kinship of five on Landroval which has been around since launch. We're rank 8 and were able to get a kin house and an individual house (standard) for all five of us in the same instance. We chose the Man homestead and actually got all our houses (including kinship) on the same street (Chestnut). It's actually kind of cool to "own" the street. We had to camp the housing brokers to make this happen. We figured out that once a particular kind of house (standard, deluxe, or kin) was not available in ANY currently open homestead, new ones would open. And we were right. In the case of the Men homesteads, it is the standards that sell out before the others. My main reason for wanting my own personal house (as well as the kinship one, actually) is for the extra storage space. My main is a level 40 Captain who is a Scholar/Weaponsmith/Farmer (Historian). I also have a level 19 alt who is a Jeweler/Cook. I need tons of space to support these "habits" in addition to all my bank slots. I've even gone and "rented" a buddies personal house chest for my own use because the additional chests from my personal house and the two we currently have for the kinship is STILL not enough for this ol' packrat. =)

The night that housing luanched, I was at work until 6 am (16 hour work day...yay), and still managed to stay awake long enough to buy one when I got home. I love my house, but it only took me about three nights to get it decorated as I wanted it (although I recently decided I need a dresser, so ill be looking around for one). I use it mainly as sort of a cummunal bank for my alts. That said, I don't think the majority of players have gotten houses yet. It's a little too easy to mail things to your alts for it to really be justifiied, unless the idea of choosing and decorating a house simply appeals to you. Players that are hardcore enough about crafting to be desperate for the extra storage are not in the majority. I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us. |

My kinship owns a house, so I've held off in buying one so far. I think I may wait until they come out with the better tool for manipulating the items around, as well as offer more items to decorate the house with. I have decided to forgo crafting for awhile, so I don't need the extra space that those who are heavy into crafting like to have. A side benefit is that since I've decided to be a kinship crafting "gatherer" is that I get a lot of stuff made for me for free. :) |

Originally posted by dragonace I am not particularly interested in housing per se, but the kinship house has a real good feature: it can be used as a free exchange for goods between kinship members (with the storage chests). In my opinion this is an excellent idea, as bank characters are not very effective, plus mailing goods within game was a bit costly as well :) I also own a small house, because I couldn't resist the environment: it is on a small hill, between a lake and a forest. Lovely! :) In EQ2 i had an apartment in the city and I did not feel attached at all as I could not walk around my own house! Maybe this is because I have grown up in a small town, I don't know - i don't prefer big apartment blocks against houses with own gardens in real life either :) DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

A question
Can you do anything with the outside of your home? Can you plant a garden or some tree's? Maybe put a neat little Gnome statue out there? (Couldn't resist Gnomes...lol) I do like the fact that I can change the floors and walls and ceilings in my Apt. in EQ2, and coming from a big city, I have lived in Apt's most of my life, and know how to deal with that. Now, I own my home on a Mountain in the Southern part of USA, yet, I still do things INSIDE my house. lol.. I agree that walking around the hill's here is great fun though... Cheers! |

Yeah, there are outside elements that you can work with as well, though not nearly as numerous as inside. I'm not sure on what kind of items you can use except for trees and bushes and such. You can also paint your floor and walls in LOTRO. Check out my LOTRO Blog: www.middleearthadventurer.blogspot.com

Garden gnomes were the first things I wanted for my yard. The closest I could come were two big (I mean ten feet tall big) dwarf statues. So when you approach my house there are two iron dwarf statues, one is out front hailing you, and one is next to my front door holding out a platter. The rest of the yard slots were taken up with trees and a well. Looking around at what other folks have in their yards, most go for trees. There are something like five or six different trees you can use...and your neighborhood will only sell one, so you can do some travelling and come up with something exotic. I have a big cedar from the human lands in the yard of my home in an elf neighborhood. There are also a lot of other objects. Assorted statues, a big party tent, picnic table, a large pumpkin, and some other items. It's not as much to mess around with as the interior hooks, but enough items that your yard doesn't need to look much like anyone else's. Although after I put in my dwarf statues, my neighbor across the street put one in too, so we now have dwarves waving at eachother
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us. |
