Dear Customer,

We regret to announce that Lucasarts will no longer be producing Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventures as a physical retail package on CD or DVD. We will therefore cancel your pending order for this item. As direct downloading of this game eliminates the need for shipping costs and shipping lead times, we hope this is a satisfactory alternative for you. We again apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

Sincerely,
LucasArtsStore (StarWarsShop)
Customer Service

According to the Lucasarts store it says it will be back in stock in Nov 2007:

http://store.lucasarts.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=405665;category_id=481;pcid1=;pcid2=

Either they changed their minds, or the person who sent you that email and cancelled your order did not know what they were taling about or the stores website has not been updated to reflect that information.

Unless the DVD version is being updated to include the Royal Pickup ITV I would go for the download version anyway

The biggest thing IOM is not the fact they are not making SWG, but the fact they are no longer funding expansions.

Well, when you think about it Blitz, SOE cornered itself when it made SWG the way it was. It restricted itself A LOT by putting SWG strictly between episodes 4 and 5, I can't see them coming out with any further expansions UNLESS they unanymously agree to slowly start pushing the time line forward... kinda in the same fashion that LOTRO is trying to do. In other words the game actually progresses and doesn't stay static and doesn't stay in say "January 1st 2007" as an example.

When you think about it, a lot of MMO's are static in this respect. In Age of Conan for example, they set the timeline after the conan movies and conan is king and forever in this MMO conan will be king, he won't age, he won't die ever. Now, because this takes place AFTER the movies and nothing much is written after the movies, this makes it easier for them to come up with expansions.

With SWG unfortunately, SOE was so stupid enough to put the timeline in between movies, which means they can't do a darn thing unless it fits in with the events of that era. Now KOTOR on the other hand is different, KOTOR has so much history and so many events, and because it's so far removed from the movies it allows for a lot of creative events to happen and for a lot of expansions to be made.

You underestimate just how much influence LA had on the development of SWG, pre and post release. SOE may have been crap in the way they handled things and implemented the ideas, but LA was the driving force behind most of the major changes and decisions in their pursuit of conquering the genre and making as much money as possible off of the license.

Those who do not know their history, are bound to step in it.

That hasn't really stopped them before. Adding in Mustafar and Kashyyyk was just a blatantly attempt to link into movies 1-3. I never really COULD see relevance to the imperial/rebel war we were supposed to be fighting. They CLAIMED they were 'slowly moving the story forward', but all I see was regressing. Wish they would have added Hoth in stead....
