You forgot a very important name in your survey: 38 Games. I think the fact that they are an indie studio with big names backing them and on their creative team (Curt Schilling, R.A. Salvatore, and Todd McFarlane) will give them the right amount of freedom both financially and creatively to do something very exciting if that's the direction they choose to move in. Think about it. Schilling is an avid gamer with the financial resources, Salvatore is an acclaimed fantasy author, and McFarlane is a celebrated illustrator/toy designer. Though I'm neither a huge fan of McFarlane or Salvatore, I have a lot of respect for what these guys do and think the coming together of such prominent creative forces could result in something very exciting. |

I think all of them will stick to the basics of the genre which is quite boring, if Bioware are with Lucas Arts then i wouldn't count on their mmorpg being very good because they'll probably make a dumbed down star wars mmorpg for consoles/kids. Blizzard have always stuck to no innovation but lots of polish so i wouldn't count on them too much, although they said their next mmorpg wouldn't be like world of warcraft. |

Let us know this my dear gamers! That company learns alot from the incident of VG to the current of G&H, and i believe that alot of them read this and alot more of mmo sit to really know what the gamers of today are seeking... given that both AoC, War and even TR are pushing back their games! They will surely know that the current market now will never settle for another clone!!!

I voted meh! A lot of gamers may claim that they want 'next-gen', but really, what the feck does 'next-gen' mean? There are few that will actually agree on a definition or even what generation of games we are currently playing. When players and the industry reach a concensus, let me know. |

What is Next Gen i ask? Is it better graphics? Is it a better Grind? Is it a new Combat system? Well to those last 3 questions i say NO they are not next gen, they are just a variation of a theme. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently Playing : EvE Online. |

Originally posted by arctarusThe market will settle for another clone. You just have to look at the mmorpg.com forums to know that. If Bioware/LA release a KotOR mmo, you can almost guarantee sort sort of cross-platform game (to keep the console fans) which is going to mean less (to no) sandbox (pre-CU/NGE Galaxies) and more story/fun gameplay ala World of Warcraft. And guess what? The masses will buy it and run around swinging lightsabers and filling chat with Chuck Norris jokes. |

I would like to say blizzard, but I doubt it will be them. In all honesty, I don't think it will be WAR or AoC. The next true gen MMO will be a mmo that falls away from the standard MMO. Meaning, no more item/loot hungry games. Bring back the UO type with new graphics and add your own twist in there. Then you have an original game. 1999 - Current UO veteran |

Originally posted by MR-Bubbles Given the no info that i have now i cant say, but i believe that with the money and the lesson that they can see from previous mmo, and REMEMBER that THE Mighty Blizzrad is also developing another MMO, i believe that they will do well to stear off the current mmo trend! Im suprised that Blizzard has gotten some votes considering there only game only served to make the MMO genra more tedious. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently Playing : EvE Online. |

Not sure if I can really apply next-gen to pc games as hardware is always evolving. Very easy to say next-gen when it comes to consoles as they really only change every 5 years or so and then the term for ME really only applies to graphics and AI. My opinion of course. I could be wrong. With that said, I think I would rather ask the question: WHO IS GOING TO PRODUCE THE NEW MINDBENDING, LIFE ENDING, GENRE CHANGING, LIKED BY MOST type of game? I have 2 guesses for that right now A. A gaming co we haven't heard of yet...it will be their first project. B. A gaming co. we haven't heard of yet...made up of ex-workers from a lot of the companies existing now. As far as the poll goes...who will make one first (could be 10 years from now), I guessing Bioware is they are still around. Blizzard second if they are still around. Others to follow. Don't ask why I say "if they are still around". Larger companies have gone belly up in shorter than 10 years. It's always a possibility. |

The first new innovative mmo (next-gen), will have to break away from the normal. Since World of Warcrafts release, most companies are either trying to cash in on WoW bucks by trying to add one new thing to the WoW model. Or they are trying to make something innovative just to find out that they are doing exactly what I posted before this line of sentence. For a company to make something that would consider a next-gen mmo, they have to jump outside the box. And i mean way outside. They have to reform the idea on what people consider an mmorpg and do something drastic. The only companies that can afford to do this are big companies like Blizzard and Bioware. But will they? As of now prolly not. Why you ask? Most likely because people are still use to the old model. Or simply that they know the old model can make it. I doubt any independent or indie company will come out with anything innovative. If anything they will become followers like the trend shows. But if I was going to point out one company that I think could make the next-gen game it would be Blizzard. They not only have the money, they have the staff. The also have some of the top programmers in the business. Two IPs they already own could turn into next-gen mmo's if they wanted to. Diablo and Starcraft. Both of which have something innovative lying just underneath them. But to be brutally honest, a company I would love to see make an MMO and bring something new to the table would be ID Software. They have prolly the most well known, and talented programmers in the world, John Carmack working for them. It would just be simply amazing to see what kind of MMORPG engine he could muster up. He pretty much shaped the FPS scene with games like Doom and Quake. I could only imgaine what he could come up with MMO wise. Imagine a Doom MMO, or even Quake. Both have huge storylines and could be made into something unreal. If they want out of the box, then ID definatly is a company that can give that. |
