I would like to know if DC and Marvel MMO games will get their own Forums?  Maybe they have to have their own website before MMORPG.com will make them a forum, I don't know.

I know that Some will be uninterrested in Comic genre MMOs but for those of us who are interrested, I most certainly would like to know what other people thought of these upcoming titles.  Although I am one of the disgruntled SWG players who don't much advocate playing SOE games, I am willing to take a look at their DC comics based game to see what it might play like.  And as for the Marvel online game, I'm certainly interrested in it because I have enjoyed City of Heroes and would like to see what Cryptic studios can come up with during their creation of Marvel.  They have already said they intend on creating an entirely new game, and that they didnt' want Marvel online to become a City of Heroes in the Marvel Universe.  So I'm really looking forward to what they offer in their upcomming title.

Let me know what you guys think about these titles, and also maybe whoever creates the new forum zones will consider creating them for these upcoming titles.

Will you consider playing either of these games?

Oh and I of course voted both because I wanted to see what other people thought of the games.  If you dont' vote that means  you arn't interrested anyway, but if you only vote one, let me know why you don't want to play the other.  Just out of curiosity for my own sake.

Chose DC, mainly because of Vertigo, and the fact that from all that I've heard, Marvel's quality has been heading downhill for a while. Jeph Loebs Wolverine being one example.

The Internet. Serious business.

I may be in the extreme minority here, but I think I'll actually prefer continuing to play City of Heroes over either of these games.

I still don't understand how many people are going to play famous and not-so-famous characters.  What if you're stuck with the Green Latern because Batman was already taken?

The only way around that would be to create new superheroes in the Marvel of DC universe.  In that case, you'd just have City of Heroes set in a different universe.  *shrug*

Marvels roster is wide enough to support a complete MMO...imagine if every player would pick one already excisting hero and play it :)

Megalomaniac idea indeed. Bless that poor soul who had picked Daredevil and decided to go toe to toe with some cosmic being...Galactus or something like that :)

Hi

I'll definitely try out a trial of both games but it would be tough to pull me away from CoH

Well, we dont have a shred of real info on either at the moment.

Marvel makes me worried because it's being developed by Cryptic. Cryptic has to be one of the worst coders in the MMO business today.

Sad to say but I have more faith in SOE to develope a good comic book MMO then Cryptic.

Why do you all believe that everyone is going to choose to be a DC or Marvel super hero? Am I the only one who believes that the comic book super heroes will be quest givers and NPC's? I don't think there are enough super heroes in each company to hold servers with 250,000 + members.

Other than that, I think I'll be trying both games. Personally, I'm more of a DC guy than a Marvel man. But hey, I'm open minded.

I look forward to both as I'm a fan of comics, but Marvel has more "superstar" appeal to me than DC.

It will be interesting to see how these games develop. Like others have said, I'm not sure how you would handle playing as already existing characters. And if you do, how that can continue to be fun and how that qualifies as an MMO.

Cryptic made City of Heroes/Villains. Game seems to have no problems. Sure as hell wouldn't be one of the top games in the business if it did have lots of bugs and mistakes. Don't know where you got the info that they're terrible coders. And, if I'm not mistaken, Marvel Online is being made in conjunction with Windows.

i think cryptic did a great job with COH/COV it has a solid player base and if anything i think they will make the better game due to them haveing expirience in super hero MMOs.

Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2

I can agree with a lot of criticism about COH/Cryptic but that's just crazy. For a game as extensive and as many add on content as COX  has and it run as well and bug free as it does (and on a vastly more complexed engine then any MMO I know of) to say that they have poor coders is ignorance.

I played CoH and CoV for the first 2 years and I followed the developers posts on the message boards during that time. So unless you did the same then you can not call me ignorant.

Cryptic did try and implement a system that would let you switch sides, transfer from a Hero to a Villain and vice versa. Why was it not completed? It was admitted several times by the developers that bad programming made it impossible. I believe the exact culprit was the way the Patron Powers were programmed into the game.

During the Suggest a Power contest thing, there were many suggestions for a Animal Mastermind, like wolves and tigers. Why was it rejected? A developer said that animals would be very hard to implement with the current animation tools.

Another suggestion that was deemed "impossible" by the developers was windows for bases.

The crafting system from Issue 9 was the culmination of years of rejected ideas. The other ideas for a system like this were mainly dismissed because they would have been too hard to program.

Cryptic think it's too hard to animate a dog and you think I'm crazy for thinking they are bad programmers?! You're the ones that are crazy.

It's not just a matter of drawing a dog and pasting it into the game. You have to create skeletal structures for each general shaped animal you want to implement, create animations, work it into the physics of the engine, and then test it. I'm sure it's not that they can't do this, but it would take many many man hours and the return just doesn't warrent it.

You seem to think when they say "it's to hard to program" it means that it's a technical impossibility for them. The problem in most cases (and they have said this on the boards several times) is they feel it's not worth the resources to program when they can add other things that people want faster and (and thereby)cheaper

As for villians/heroes switching everything I have read about it has been in reguards to balance.

bverji - if it's so complicated to animate a dog then why do games made by 5 people in someones basement in their free time have animals like dogs in them?

Also, Matt "Positron" MIller himself admitted sides switching was canned because of bad programming.

Realistically neither the Marvel MMO nor the DC one will out on shelves until 2010 so who knows.

So...okay, we have the "dog" mastermind after several hundred manhours of design.  What about cats?  Bears? Reptiles? Birds? Apes? etc?  To make an animal master mind properly would require making effective models and animations for several types of beasts.

Marvel and DC won't let people play their characters -- there's no way they're going to let any player take control of superman so he can utter profanities and attempt to cyber with wonder woman.
