I don't believe the rumors about a new SW MMO. It's just not a good idea. Considering they've canned another project to focus on this one makes me think STO is in the opposite of trouble. |

i feel sorry for bioware.
all these fans keep slapping on game titles to their company. KOTOR: online. yes knights of the old republic was a sweet game and yes Bioware made it, but cant they make a different title? do they really need to use the hype generated by the old title just to sell a game?
methinks not
as for STO...it was in trouble ever since it scrapped ship interiors

Maybe they have decided to break with tradition and spend a proper amount of time on STO to hopefully realise the game as all fans want to see. Instead of releasing some half-assed piece of coding and expecting people to pay to test it for them. (examples too numerous to mention)
Hopefully, once this is released it will be a case of 'Young fool, only now do you understand'. Sorry ST fans but had to resort to SW speak to ensure they understand |

From PE's record of previous efforts it doesnt look too good . Maybe a micro-spanner ajustment from the Doctor or a wave of Harry Potter's little fairy wand can fine tune STO into something playable. Oh and kick that annoying tin can K-9 up the backside too while we are at it. I feel what most are trying to put across, that STO will be anouther flop like most late 'Star Trek' titles.

Do you really believe that PE knows what the hell they are doing? You can quote Star Wars dialog all you want, but it won't cover up the fact that PE is incompetent and way behind schedule. If there even is a schedule. "I find your abundance of faith, disturbing."

Star Trek is going to be a genre that is going to present a considerable challenge to translate to an MMO and make a game that meets both the expectations of the fan base and still works functionaly as game. You've got the expectation of both ground based action playing in alot of exotic locales and also heavy space based action functioning as part of a crew in operating a star ship. You've got a genre that is based around characters functioning (ostensibly) as part of a highly structured organization that is Star Fleet.... performing tasks (i.e. crewing a ship or away missions) where teamwork is critical to success..... but if you've got to translate this into a medium where a certain freedom of action for individual characters is expected.... and a certain level of support for solo play and pick-up-groups is considered the norm for success. You've got a genre where exploration and discovery are considered just as important if not more so then combat........ and you have to translate this into a medium that hasn't even begun to figure out how to do truely dynamic content...or generating new content on the fly.... and most existing models seem to revolve around hack'n'slash and static, set piece content. Plus, you've got a heck of alot of lore (some of which is contradictory) to try to be true to...and expectations from some very die hard fans (which will likely be a large portion of your potential market) to satisfy.
It would take a company with a great deal of talent, inovation, creativity, management skill, and sensitivity to it's community to pull a project like this off even half-way decently. I'm not saying it's impossible to do.... but certainly PE's track record so far... doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence in this regard.

My bet is on Bioware making a Neverwinter Nights Online, since fantasy games are more of a successful market these days. This whole ordeal of a new Star Wars MMO has been going on since the release of the SWG Combat Upgrade which dates back to 2004/2005. Especially when NGE hit SWG, I heard even more of a Bioware Star Wars MMO from them pissed off SWG subscribers. At this point for STO, if SWG can survive after what it has been thru with its subscribers base, STO will survive as well, even if the game is a POS or not. |

First off, TheOracle1 you really dont need to type with huge text. Regardless of the size, your idea isnt shared with everyone. You stated only sto.net moderators support PE, well your wrong as im neither. I love it when people go off on tangent, quoting and stating everything as they are the community and that everyone is thinking the same thing. I would give you a second chance to re-type what ever it is your talking about, but since you can't give PE that then I must flame you. Stop with the garbage talk about STO not succeding. You admitingly are not a trek fan therefore what does it matter to you. And please for the love of christ be somewhat coherant when typing. No one understands your gibberish when you talk like you just came out of pre school. And dont get this confused with spelling grammar, im talking about your wording. Anyways STO will survive, even if PE does produce. Face the facts man, you are not bigger then the tens of thousands of millions of trek fans out there.
